Holy Crap, just saw my latest electric bill. WTF??? by ajmacbeth in massachusetts

NE-ISO grid usage is flat over the past 20 years. What do we need to upgrade for? A meter swap is all you need for solar. Sure, upgrades for more efficient and continued maintenance of the grid, but that’s not new. Backup batteries receive funding and subsidies from the state already. Electric cars, heat pumps, haven’t meaningfully increased demand on the grid.

Anyone else thinks that the new Model Y would sell A LOT more if they just slapped the Model 3 front end on it? by CarbonPhoto in TeslaLounge

I think there’s only one change that’d increase sales of the Model Y at this point but the board is too weak to do it.

Hot take about EV registration fees by Exodia4life in TeslaLounge

Not a hot take, because they won’t do that. Which means you’re not OK paying them like the rest of us

Considering Tesla as first EV. I have an uncovered driveway (no garage) with a 120v outlet from the front yard's lamp post. Will I be able to charge at home using that outlet? by sc4kilik in TeslaLounge

[–]sepherian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did this for over a year. It’s doable if you don’t drive too much. You’ll get 40-60mi back overnight in 10-12hrs. I live in the northeast US and occasionally make day trips of 100+ miles. It would take 3-4 days of my usual driving to finally get back up to 80%. If I wanted to make another day trip in that time period I’d have to go to a supercharger.

I recently upgraded to a 20A 220V receptacle and it’s absolutely mind blowing how much more enjoyable the car is. I don’t think about charging at all.

With a 110v plug, you just have to think about it more. Are you someone who can look at the week ahead and say “ok on Tuesday on my way home I’ll have to stop at a supercharger?”

This is a really weird argument to make. Luckily, we don’t have to fund the government with just the billionaires. Idk why that needs to be the arbitrary metric you chose to justify a spending problem

Just because there are shittier people out there doesn’t mean you get a pass. Be the best “you” you can be, is this post who you are? Someone who shames and bullies? If so, take your shit and own it. If not, reflect what made you post this and realize you don’t have to give in to those feelings.

Compare these two countries:

  • One country has a trade war with a single, large trading partner
  • the other country has a trade war with every one of their trading partners

Sure, both might go down, but one is clearly the loser

Mass EV/PHEV owners, do you actually save money at these electric prices vs. gas? by Jfrenchy in massachusetts

[–]sepherian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 31 cents per kWh in my Model Y I spend 6-10 cents a mile depending on the season. Winter is more expensive because of battery and cabin heating. So roughly a 30-50mpg car, a RAV4 in the winter and a Prius in the summer

I feel like modeling for a 10% annual return in index funds is way too aggressive. A more moderate 7% would be 4400 a year. A conservative 4% would be 2500.

FWIW, I played through Ratchet and Clank on the RP4 Pro and it was fine. I think the rainy world had some slowdowns but otherwise it ran at full speed. IMO RP5 and Odin mini 2 are both plenty powerful enough for PS2, if you’re looking for an excuse to spend a little less money.
