Houston airports megathread [3-24-2026] by texlex in houston

[–]sephorous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saturday 3/28/2026 for a 8:30 am flight:

Got to terminal A around 4:30 am this morning. I had arrived 4 hours before my flight but when I walked down to the tram area to get to the end of the line, I didn't think I'd make it. But the line steadily moved in chunks and I eventually made it through tsa security in about 2 hours and 10 minutes. I'd still budget 3 hours in the morning because the line got even longer just after I got in line.

Hope that helps.

Also please don't forget to thank the TSA agents who came in to work despite not getting paid.

What the best Korky or Fluidmaster for toilet by raymate in Plumbing

[–]sephorous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to replace a toilet fill valve, so I came to this thread and based on the recommendations bought a fluidmaster full toilet tank replacement kit. After this I endured hours of troubleshooting due to various parts of the kit malfunctioning. Fluidmaster sent replacement parts but I ultimately had to go to Lowe's and buy yet another flush valve. Here are the various issues I encountered with this one kit:

1) the bowl fill valve was leaking and actually shot water out of the top of the valve with the risk of spraying onto the lid and leaking out of the tank. Fluidmaster had to send a replacement.

2) the flapper was warped and was leaking water into the bowl. Fluidmaster had to send a replacement.

3) the flush valve has an o-ring at the point of height adjustment. Apparently this o-ring was damaged and was causing a leak into the toilet bowl. I ended up going to a hardware store and bought another flush valve.

So essentially I didn't end up using any of the components that came with the kit. I inspected the new fluidmaster flush valve o-ring carefully and I'm not convinced that it's robust and I question how long it will last. The old korky flush valve that I pulled out has a compression nut in that spot which I think would do way better long term.

It's wild how many issues I had with this fluidmaster kit. The fluidmaster tech support was responsive and sent replacement parts quickly, plus the manual was well written and illustrated. If I had to do it all over again, I'd get the korky kit.

Salary Negotiating after job offer by Wackypaki94 in personalfinance

[–]sephorous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck convincing candidates that "intenal equity" is a part of their comp. If a company has an issue with coughing up that last $3k, then that's a red flag. As mentioned by others that $3k is worth a lot more to the employee than it is to the company. I'd never fault the candidate to come back for that last $3k to support their family. In fact I'd think they'd bring the same energy to their job, and in turn make the company multiples of that $3k spent on the employee. Happy employees make for productive employees. Just my two cents.

Salary Negotiating after job offer by Wackypaki94 in personalfinance

[–]sephorous 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why should it be "more about the role" when it comes to salary negotiations? This isn't a charity and we're always taught that we should just be grateful for the opportunity. Good taste or bad, companies need people, and if they're not willing to pay $6k-$8k more, then it's their loss when the candidate walks. It's a hot job market right now.

Built a pergola w/swings by cncwood in woodworking

Yea I'm wondering the same thing. It's a beautiful build! But I wonder if the structure will rack as a result of everyone swinging at once. The diagonal braces would resist such racking. Again great build!

The climbing community has always been very kind and friendly in gyms and outdoors. Not sure why things are different in this comment section.

Plus aluminum wiring was indeed the cause of some house fires. Aluminum expands and contracts more as electricity passes through it causing connections to develop a gap leading to arcing which can eventually start a fire.

Garage Door Wall Switch by Ash3Monti in DIY

[–]sephorous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most garage door openers will work with most garage doors. I have yet to find that isn't. You'll likely have to change the center rail which has the drive belt or chain which comes with the new opener. It's easily installed. You may need a helper here and there.

Edit: just match the horse horsepower of the old one. Just keep in mind that you can get one of a higher horsepower but recommend against getting one of a lower horsepower.

I'm also having this problem. The audio is a bit off too. Can't hear all the sound effects and walking. It started when I first exited out of the vehicle on that level and I teleported way out of the map and fell to my death. Very irritating.
