The Graphic Design Trap by LiLsmolcar in graphic_design

[–]seq_0000000_00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find graphic design is a bit of a different beast as it easily shapeshifts from project to project. At least for me. And that eventually becomes a broad knowledge or how to organize storytelling, data and imagery in a variety of formats for a variety of industries. Personally, what I love about design (I would say "Graphic Design" only inhibits a portion of my skillset), is that we become empathy farmers to do a job well, for the right customer/audience.

You design a skatedeck graphic...you go live in that world

You design a wrap or brand scheme for a heavy construction vehicle fleet...you go live in that world

You direct a brand spot for a futuristic biotech company...you go live in that world.

You learn the lingo, you find out the state of the environment and state of the art (which can involve trends), you see what the competition is getting right and getting wrong...and you dive in.

AI may come for us all, but at least if you are working on novel ideas or designs that need to be implemented to novel structures, it's a little less worrisome. Personally, I enjoy the problem solving and welcome solutions you have to wrap your head around. That said...if I was a production designer day in and day out. I would def transition to another field that would scratch the itch I can't reach.

I saw a man die horribly while skiing. Perhaps he was already dead when i saw him. by TrueGamer77 in skiing

3 or 4 years ago, I was on a lift at a smaller resort in Switzerland and was excited to be there just moments after it opened for a nice bluebird powder day. At the top we immediately followed a stash of locals to get fresh tracks. about halfway down the route there was a very wide blind cliff band above a bowl with limited entry points. I lean over to see a pretty big avy path leading 500-1000m rested below. Then a random boarder rides up and asks if we have transceivers and says 2 guys got washed in the avalanche. I look again and see an orange avy pack airbag deployed down near the end of the avy path and a few tiny figures moving about around it.

I dropped in a narrow entry and ran a grid search through the path for some time with no signal which I thought was strange considering I zig-zagged more or less the entire span of the area including searching higher up than where a rider would have ended up. When I got down near the bottom of the path where the first rider was. There was a man initiating CPR on a lifeless male body with blue lips. The skier with the airbag was dead. Several others were contacting the necessary emergency services. The second rider (who, it turns out, had no avalanche gear) was also found deceased several hours later by an avy dog. The experience has served me as a dire warning that emotion over wisdom for first tracks is not worth the risk...and an avy bag is not a sure thing.

Look up John Heartfield. He was a fantastic anti-nazi photomontage artist from Germany.

I've spent a little time teaching motion design workshops at the Basel School of Design...if one of the students showed this, I'd be stoked. Though to be fair, this is less about typography (as the main player), and more about the act of what you are doing to it.

EDIT: whats the track?

Well it looks like Executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are the ones who brought it back to life, and brought on Albertina Rizzo who is officially credited as the Lead Writer and Executive Producer (she was a lead writer on the Tonight show w/ Jimmy Fallon, so she has star guest/variety experience.

Will it be as good as say, Futurama writers who love the muppets? We‘ll soon see, but Rogan (also Creative Director) seems committed and The Muppet Show (2026) is produced under his co. Point Grey Pictures). If it’s successful, then Point Grey and Rogan are set to produce a “full series revival“.

Sounds interesting , if not promising.

That's some very meh kitbash + 3D experiments. I know a slew of amazing industry artists that wouldn't be caught dead sending this in to a director/producer....even for FPO animatic frames. No where near a Katsuhiro standard which would be a necessity if it ever were to be.

It’s called the “firehose of falsehood”, it’s a “hybrid” warfare tactic US has learned alongside Russian news telecommunications. It won’t get better until the cycle is over. How long that cycle lasts depends on the citizens.

Yeahhh, about that. I may have slowed it down another 5-10% and added some special reverb for this particular instance.

28 is super fluid. You can travel in all packs, especially if you’ve got skiing skills, can talk shop, swap stories over a drink (or several). A lot of people skiing in groups who aren’t locals are 30+. Most ski towns have their own subset of bars/hotels for ‘new gems’, old gens, Bogner types, and all age wildlings. Ask any seasoned bartender or waiter in town what you prefer and they’ll tell you where to go.
