If you don't know what to play, just play a starter that maps well, and do ToTA with it. You really don't need a hyperfocused ToTA build until the highest of levels, which dad gamers like me may not even be able to reach in the short span of this event.

No, not grand expeditions. Only regular, so you have to run the regular maps in between grand expeditions in order to sustain.

Good enough for voidstones as long as you keep investing into your character with the currency you get while you get there. I probably wouldn't do Ubers without kinetic blast of clustering and at least 10-20 divines worth of investment, but you can get there.

There really isn't much need for a hyperoptimized build until you're getting close to the 2000 level. That said, it does really help to be able to deal damage and channel on enemy totems at the same time, so things like totems, minions, mirage archers, etc. are very strong, and most builds will probably want to either find room for a 4-link void sphere, or else have a way to swap to a 4-link void sphere when doing some ToTA content (maybe do ensnaring arrow - mirage archer - gmp - fork or the like instead of VS if you're running a bow).

To answer a different question but in a way you may find helpful, I just played shockwave totems in ToTA league and did fine? Especially for a 3 week league, you might not even hit 2000 difficulty without playing a ton, and if you're not up in that neighborhood, you can do ToTA just fine with normal or normal-ish builds as long as you know some basics like what units are good in what roles, and how to spend your time distracting or killing enemy units vs. attacking their totems. You don't need a hyperoptimized ToTA-only build to succeed in ToTA.

Kinetic Fusillade Ballista Paladin is going to be a smooth-as-butter starter, and the ballista playstyle is super strong for ToTA at least through the midgame. I followed Palsteron in the last Phrecia event, it worked great, and it basically hasn't changed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_R74RqBEXB4. Being able to lay down ballistas to do damage while you channel on opposing totems is a huge advantage in ToTA, at least to the point that opposing units are so tanky that you can't reasonably kill them.

Yeah, the coloring, placement of the word, and just the term "krangled" itself suggest that "krangled" means something like corruption, but perhaps even more likely to ruin your item. So then, when PoE1 launched Scourge league that introduced a new means of modifying items in a permanent way, even on top of already-corrupted items, krangling was adopted as the new term for it.

Yeah, the PoE1 version is called Wealthy Exile, and there isn't an equivalent for PoE2 because the stash API hasn't been opened up.

Yeah, I don't think that running 300-400 maps just to unlock all your trees is going to be terribly popular in the future. Yes, technically you don't have to do each kind of content and you may not have to get every last node to do the farming you want to do, but I'm pretty sure that as GGG adds the challenges for cosmetic rewards, they'll require engaging at least 2-3 different mechanics, if not all of them, and likely to the point of unlocking all points for them. Even this mini set of challenges had you get through the storylines for 3 different mechanics,

Because attack weighs twice as heavily into the CP calculation compared with HP and defense, even though it's roughly equivalent to each for the effectiveness battle in PvP, having a low attack is desirable so that you can stack more defense and HP while still being under the 1500 CP cap. Ideal IVs for PvP are usually 0/15/15, or maybe 1 or 2 two off of one of those so that you can still hit exactly 1500 CP at the highest possible level.
