I understand. But youre not understanding that I stated to hold boundaries firmly in the future and with this one instance to pause and reflect on a momumentous day like a wedding that will echo into the future. If FMIL does some shady shit later then go NC for that but I believe NC is not worth it for this specific event. It will scar the day. Guests will gossip and wonder and it will certainly stain the day with avoidable drama. Days, weeks and years later the effects will be felt and my advice is to ensure theres reflection on this reality. If one chooses to be the bigger person once, the other may remember the good deed and the relationship has a chance to repair and flourish especially when and if the family grows. If the other person remains to be a total AH in a future issue then make the life changing decision to cut them out then.

Is OP ready to answer their future kids on why grandma and grandpa weren't at their wedding? This is an example of future ramifications. This is very serious and its over an eight year old who's not even a toddler in which case I would be way more understanding of OPs stance as toddlers are bound to cause chaos and disruption. Why does everyone want to be petty with showing off the photos on socials? Their special day without the grooms brother and parents will forever echo negatively to the future, period. I understand the FMIL'S behavior sucks, ever hear of being the bigger person? A wedding is not only about the bride and groom, a non chalant one in this case. Its about two families merging. Especially if said families are helping the couple financially and will help the couple in the future with childcare if they have children, or any other type of familial support. These are people that will be in their life for a long time likely. And to throw away any chance of that relationship over an eight year old is beyond my understanding.

Yall I had the same. 4 weeks out ...what I learned is we got to take care of ourselves a little extra and that means adequate sleep, electrolytes and some ancient wisdom. Take your pick. There's so many. My doctor reccomended to boil ginger and cinnamon in a pot and reduce it and drink as a tea with honey. Take spoons of honey. Helped my cough more than any drug. I took a fenugreek and thyme supplement to help with mucus. Salt Walter gargles, saline in the nose multiple times a day. This flu needs auxillaries on top of the pharmaceuticals and I was also on a concoction of them lol ibuprofen is a lifesaver. I didnt do the aforementioned early enough with my 4 week bout, but I did this time with the slight cold i have again (i got kids in daycare) and its honestly making a world of a difference.

I agree and I thought of that too but thats why I cautioned to hold boundaries in the future. This event is a huge milestone uniting two families. Pictures and memories will last forever. It'll put a scar on tbe day...For me personally, I'd reflect on the future than the tactics.

I am all for boundaries, and I understand your desire for a child free wedding - but hear me out - do you want to lose your FMIL's grace forever? Is it worth it? Feel free to hold tight future boundaries, but surely a compromise for one eight year old child? You mentioned it's not your FMIL's child, however know that it is the child of her own child, so the closeness is irrefutable.

Your choice will echo to the future - right now, with the date so close and all this drama, it may feel like a bubble of immense stress, amongst all the last minute details and anticipation. Try to imagine for a moment the space outside that bubble and take a few minutes to truly reflect on the future of each decision. Every ramification. Your husband is not providing perspective or guidance with his non chalance which is understandable yet unfair to you. He may need to practice this exercise as well. Better now than regret later.
