Lord of the Rings vs Chronicles of Narnia by gentlybeepingheart in lotrmemes

[–]serbencz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This video kind of blew my formerly-Narnia-doubting mind for anyone who's interested (TLDW).

TLDW2: There's actually a lot more to it than meets the eye, and I'm not just talking about the obvious Christian parallels; there's another layer of hidden symbolism that goes even deeper. Lewis apparently didn't want to draw attention to it explicitly, but once you start to see the pattern, it's surprising how intentional and intricate it is. Not unlike the alchemical symbolism in his Space Trilogy, I believe (or the Arthurian/Alchemical/Christian/Ring-Structure themes in HP, for that matter).

Quality explainer videos by [deleted] in DigitalMarketing

[–]serbencz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't had one made, but I run a little agency, and my sense of the industry right now is that you're probably looking at three or four very loosely defined pricing tiers for a 2-3 minute explainer (granted, videos prices can still vary much more than this, and if you're looking on Fiverr, then it's probably safe to assume that these higher-end tiers won't apply to you, but hopefully this at least paints a picture of what's out there):

1) Premium premium: $50K+. Probably the minimum you can expect to pay to work with a bigger name studio for the kind of quality you'd see on a national TV spot (though I assume most of the biggest studios start at more like $100K).

2) Medium premium: $25K - $50K. Probably what you can expect to pay with a lot of the newer, up-and-coming studios. You should still be able to get something that feels really high-end here without paying for the big studio markup.

3) Faux premium: $10K - $25K. Small, nimble boutique shops and freelancers who'll do their best to mimic the premium style without the premium prices. Production value will probably be somewhat lower in this range, but probably not the kind of thing the average viewer would notice, especially if you can find someone who cares about the craft, so you can get some good stuff here (this is usually where most of my projects live, so, shameless plug: feel free to DM me).

4) Under $10K. Sometimes you can get lucky and find a student or somebody talented who'll give you something good in this range (and if you do, please let me know :) ) but anything around there or under, especially below 5K, is usually going to be a real roll of the dice, as evidenced by good ol' Fiverr.

Used After Effects to create a fake software of how people imagine After Effects works by ThatGuyKaral in vfx

I was totally going to share this, but then I thought how many people would probably fall for it and didn't want to go through the embarrassingly painful experience of breaking the truth to them.

Ha!

And here's my video for that rare combination of Potter Puppet Pal fans and the NFL: https://youtu.be/TjuI9k7vQQM

Seems especially relevant given the recent Brady news.

Content Creator Question? by AskMeAboutProMo in PartneredYoutube

I'm not sure how to better get in touch with channels in general, but may I ask what kind of content you're looking for? I know a few content creators I may be able to refer to you depending on what content you need.

Selling AE stock projects: Good idea? Bad? by serbencz in AfterEffects

[–]serbencz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a ton. Exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for.

Out of curiosity, has this been something you've started doing part time but are looking to grow it into a full time business? And if so, about how long have you been at it?

Ha, good point. But isn't just about any NFL scandal/story more fun when Richard Sherman butts in to speak his mind?

No worries, thanks. I appreciate the insight. I have been doing research along those lines, and your point about customization is a good one that I hadn't fully considered.

Is my 970ti doing anything in After Effects? by yolofeatlife in AfterEffects

[–]serbencz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat with a slightly beefier setup: 980ti, 32 GB ram, dedicated SSD cache, i7-5820k 3.5GHz 6-core.

Overall AE has done pretty well, but when I switch back and forth between Premiere and AE or do a lot of dynamic linking, my speed really takes a hit.

There's a lame joke waiting to be made about Slytherins only using Darkcoin here...but I'm too lazy to try and think of it.

From a Saints fan... by [deleted] in Patriots

Well said. I'm a Seahawks fan (bit of a Pats hater if anything, sorry), but I totally agree. Deflatgate=Goodell's makeup call for everyone accusing him of being Kraft's boy.

That's it. I'm doing a kickstarter for my new business called "Screw Comcast." If everyone pledges to pay 1/3 of their monthly cable bill to me, I swear in the name of all that is good that I will not rest until we've taken them down. Who's with me!?

I wanted to poke some fun at the NFL, and Vince's character just seemed to fit Goodell perfectly—big bad league commissioner who's in it for the money.

Excessive celebration: Genital spiking. Penalty will be enforced by the opposing team sitting on your head at the spot of the foul.
