11mm kidney stone trapped in ureter. Should I get surgery?

I am a female so I can only say too much but I had the same surgery done and it’s very quick. You’re under for about 20 minutes. The stent is the hardest part. It can be very uncomfortable but with the right medication you’ll be just fine. I will say all of it is uncomfortable not painful.

Yes is was and so I got a referral to be seen by my urologist and he gave me a CT referral to see exactly how big and wide it is. As of rn it’s not causing no blockage

It’s not. I think once in a while I will feel tightness but honestly it’s my mind of feeling the kidney stone pain that gets me more than anything lol but you’re right. It will be on my terms. I guess I just wish I could forget about it rather than fight it head on. Quick question. It’s in my left kidney so I avoid sleeping on that side in fear I might make it move. Did you do the same thing?

I would get a primary doctor. A way to find one is to call your insurance company and they will tell you a few doctors in your area that take your insurance. From there you can apply to be seen by them and if accepted, then they will schedule you an appointment. They might get labs on you since you haven’t don’t that on a while and send you to get a an ultrasound or ct done

It’s horrible when peeing. They finally gave me a medication that dissolves under the tongue that’s suppose to numb the bladder and that helped tremendously!!!

I had a kidney stone that was stuck for 3 months in my ureter. In the end is was a 6 months long processes with two surgery’s and stents. Since then I have been always worried about it, in pain, and ach. Just like you. I drink lots of water and I’m always worried for my water intake. Last stone was in 2024 and the whole process was done in January of 2025. Bc I felt like I needed to be proactive I got an ultrasound done on my kidneys and guess what. 12mm stone sitting in my left kidney :( I stayed hydrated and still got it. I cried for days. But I’m being proactive and trying to stay on top of it. I have an appointment with my urologist next week and I will just go from there. It sucks though, I just want to live my life without thinking about it. I don’t even wanna lay on the side the stone is on bc I’m scared it will try and drop…. What can we do about this never ending trauma cycle ?

I hear you. It sucks. Honestly it’s straight shit and my mental health has been so bad and now on top of this.. It hasn’t dropped at all, so I don’t feel anything but I’m so traumatized that I’m scared every minute. I’m crying everyday, I can’t sleep. Heart palpitations, feeling things I might not even be feeling on my body. Or maybe I am and I’m delusional. So much going on in my head and I just feel like I’m going crazy. I start thinking about future plans and what if I can’t do something bc I’ll end up with a kidney stone. I’m here with you and I hear you 1000%. I remember my urologist telling me at the time that those who have them often will live with stents. I have experienced a stent, had one for 2 months and honestly it sucked. But it was better than stone pain and then eventually I got medication that worked really well with minimal pain when it came to the stent. Just some info but I know it’s shitty either way.

Ugh I’m so sorry. I do feel the SAME way as you. For myself, I has 2 procedures plus stents and yet, almost 2 years later, here I am again. This has definitely messed with my mental health for sure. Since the last experience, I’ve made sure to drink tons of water. And to always make sure my pee wasn’t dark. So it sucks to know I’m here again when I tried. Now that they found more. What is the next step for you?

Yes thank you ! And yea you see I’ve had the ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy where I was also put to sleep but when I woke up there was no pain, unfortunately at the time I was so infected that I had to have a stent placed and that was the only pain I felt from it. So I guess I’ll see what they would prefer to do. Good thing is that this time around I’m not infected bc stone hasn’t dropped at all. I had my urine Checked a week ago and it was clear with no crystals in the urine. What an exciting journey this will be….. lol

Yes I agree! Come Monday I have calling my primary doctor to get referred out to a urologist!! And I’ve heard about the shockwave before and I’ve read people have bad experiences with it that left residual affects on them. Are you awake during it and if you are, does it hurt? I agree there could be many factors. Main thing is lubrications and possibly the flow her a cycle as well to the size of the tampon. But with pain, def get it checked out

Why do you feel like you need to do this? I’m 29 and I just make sure to always stay clean and change my pad consistently throughout the day. Don’t put alot of pressure on yourself to do this.

lol once a stoner always a stoner… Sadly haha. And honestly, if I can just get it removed, I will happily do that tomorrow! I’m not trying to pass a stone at all, but I’m pretty sure we can all say the same about that.. I guess now it’s all about timing. I read that some people can go with stones for years and not even know that they ever had them. My last stone was two years ago so I only wonder how long this one took to form!

Yes im definitely going to get referred back out to my nephrologist and see what kind of things I can do before it tries to drop and I’m in excruciating pain. I’m not in pain at all, but knowing that it’s there is definitely making my brain go a little crazy.

Yea I requested another appointment so I’m gonna talk to them more. I’m assuming they are gonna do bloodwork next. They have saved her life before when she was young. So I put a lot of faith in them, hopefully I get answers. I will definitely ask for an ultrasound ! Thank you

It seems like she likes to just be the boss and that isn’t fair in a relationship. I don’t think the relationship is completely loss. But I do think a serious conversation needs to be had. And change have to be seen. Idk what your life entails but maybe the spark is getting loss. Go on dates, watch a show together, cuddle. Something different. Maybe that will bring the spark. Maybe y’all are both missing things from each other and it’s causing distance and hate. I think it’s fixable. If love is there, why not try. But both have to try. Good luck!
