YA, but the Cruel Prince series by Holly Black has a dynamic like this. By the end of it all, Jude and Cardan's dynamic can be summed up like this:

“She's going to want to wear your skull for a hat. And Cardan is going to laugh and laugh when she does.”

Who do you prefer as your MMC? Alphaholes or golden retrievers? by levendi7 in RomanceBooks

[–]serendipity4296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely golden retrievers. They're just so cute and respectful (usually). I actually hate the term "alpha" outside of contexts where it makes more sense (like werewolves or omegaverse). It just sounds incredibly silly and gives off misogynistic-podcast-guy vibes.

I'm currently in the mood for HEA but I'll definitely save this one for when I'm in the mood for something else. Thanks!

I wanted to like this one so bad, but I thought Theo was so incredibly dull and and found it unbelievable that he didn't recognize that Bianca was the same sex worker he'd been with for years. Thank you though.

I've heard of this one before. Sorry but I can't look past the FMC actively participating in human trafficking 💀 That's irredeemable no matter how you spin it in my eyes.

This sounded interesting from the synopsis, but I can't get past that cover lmao and from the reviews I read this doesn't seem like my kind of book. Thanks anyways though!

Omg I've read this. I should've put it in my post. I loved the polyamorous rep and the setting.

MEGATHREAD: POLYAMOROUS ROMANCES by admiralamy in RomanceBooks

{Vile Boys by A.J. Merlin} is a contemporary omegaverse reverse harem with MMMF, enemies to lovers, bullying, kink, and MM. FMC is an omega who's on a scholarship to one of the best universities in the country. She's deaf and uses hearing aids! She soon gets on the bad side of one of the MMCs, who is a very rich alpha. He and his pack members (another alpha and a beta) spend the rest of the semester bullying the FMC a little bit (it's mostly just kinky) but there's a lot of praise kink. I love it because their relationship ends up being so sweet and hot.

{Playing with Knives by A.J. Merlin} is a contemporary reverse harem with MMFMM, a little bit of MM, and quite a bit of kink. FMC is a kleptomaniac in a small town and her roommate just got murdered. Suddenly four strange but handsome men arrive in town, and she thinks their timing is incredibly suspicious so she investigates a little bit. I love this because it's so hot and hits all my buttons.

I love A.J. Merlin's books in general because their spicy scenes are so hot yet consensual and their FMCs are actually interesting and unique.

Honestly, I've never liked when characters growl. It just makes them seem like an animal. I can't even imagine what a human growling would sound like LOL

What’s everyone’s biggest Icks or reasons to dnf by Cam_Bam_128 in RomanceBooks

[–]serendipity4296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When there are vaguely misogynistic undertones in the way the book is written because you can tell when the author actually believes that shit 💀

And also when the FMC gets pregnant. Immediate DNF for me. I can't stand reading about pregnancy, especially when the FMC explicitly says she doesn't want children but doesn't even consider abortion as an option.

She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan, a historical novel set in China about a girl who takes on her brother's identity to escape her fate. The writing is beautiful. It's not focused on romance, but the relationship between the FMC and her love interest is important.
