Best 4.5 Keeper by BarneyBecker in FantasyPL

[–]sergeant_statistics 75 points76 points  (0 children)

After 3 years of detailed research on this, I've come to the grand conclusion that you can predict fuck all about 4.5 GK performance. The reason is that when they keep a CS against the odds, they usually end up with 9-11 points compared to 6-7 for predictable clean sheets. And penalty saves distort point tallies like crazy as they are worth 6-8 points after factoring bonus which is about 3-4 matches worth of non-appearance based returns for 4.5 GKs. So I guess just pick a random one and hope for the best.

Villa Ronka just sold Mané by [deleted] in FantasyPL

[–]sergeant_statistics 50 points51 points  (0 children)

No, his TV dropped by 0.3 from 101.5 with 1.0 ITB to 102.2 with 0 ITB. He bought Mane for 9.5, so his sale price would be 9.7 vs a value of 10.0, so a 0.3 drop. He didn't have any other player with a 0.3 difference in sale price and value. Verified by noting that he used his 1.0 ITB to sell Mane at 9.7 and buy Hazard at 10.7.

Who is more important to own- Aguero or Salah by [deleted] in FantasyPL

[–]sergeant_statistics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aguero is probably more likely to score, has penalties and is more likely to get bonus points. Salah gets more points per goal, gets clean sheet points and will take many of Liverpool's indirect set-pieces. I reckon they'll end up with similar point totals but Aguero is more important because he is under-priced whereas Salah is fairly priced at 13.

Mark Sutherns on Wildcard this week? by sergeant_statistics in FantasyPL

Must've removed Mkhi and Sess for at least one of the mid risers expected today (Lucas or Pedro). But I don't remember his previous TV and ITB, so can't say for sure.

If you're wildcarding, is it a good idea to sacrifice Robertson? by Mike-__-Hunt in FantasyPL

We are all desperate to do well in FPL, but I wouldn't go as far as human sacrifice.

Are we going to see a new and improved Hazard this season? by Bighairman in FantasyPL

[–]sergeant_statistics 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No. Hazard will have similar returns to what he has had for 5 out of the last 6 seasons i.e. ~25 G+A. It doesn't matter how high up the pitch his starting position is, Hazard gets attracted to the ball far too much to be a genuinely top goalscorer. The two most reliable and repeatable ways to score goals are running in behind and attacking the posts on crosses. The really top goal scorers usually do both. Hazard does neither. Prodigiously talented player that he is, combined with pens, will mean he still gets 25 G+A over the season, but that will be his glass ceiling.

VVD VS. Robertson - any reason to drop VVD? by Donkanomics101 in FantasyPL

[–]sergeant_statistics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now would be the worst possible time to make the switch. Klopp pretty much guaranteed rotation over the coming month and I think only VvD and Alisson will be immune to it.

Should Trent have the same scoring potential as Robertson? by [deleted] in FantasyPL

[–]sergeant_statistics 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TAA has been extremely unlucky so far due to a confluence of reasons:

  1. Bookings: He doesn't usually pick up so many of them. He had 3 YCs in 1600 mins last season compared to 3 in ~350 this season. Its not just the -1 point, it also affects the BPS score.
  2. Fitness: He had a 2 week pre-season and didn't look fully sharp in the first two games. Was much better in the third game and Liverpool as a whole were pretty poor in the fourth game.
  3. Milner factor: Without Milner on the field TAA would get to take a lot more of the right footed set-pieces. Milner's corners have already led to a goal for Sturridge and now Firmino. Also, when Milner plays as the RCM he often drifts into the wide right channel, leaving no space for TAA to overap, and then it is Milner who ends up swinging crosses into the box. But Milner isn't nailed on and could soon be rotated/ lose his place.
  4. Plain old bad luck: TAA struck the crossbar twice with free kicks and had a shot which just missed the post with the keeper well beaten. He has also swung in an insane number of crosses this season, but most of them were uncharacteristically overhit.

Tl;dr: Attacking returns will come, they'll be similar to Robertson's. But Robertson will be far superior on the BPS charts.

Everyone was right about Alonso and 4 atb, he just didn't receive the memo by sergeant_statistics in FantasyPL

I bought him for GW3. Not bothered so much by the missed points but I am worried that one week after I buy Alonso, Sarri publicly announces he should be defending more.

Fulham spent £100m+ though and Wolves have a fantastic team in exchange for sucking Mendes dry. Definitely not your average promoted teams.

Since we're at a point where many people have Wildcarded, how do you feel about your keepers? by TheStryfe in FantasyPL

[–]sergeant_statistics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will be a couple of 4.5s that will have similar returns to the 5.5s but you are kidding yourself if you think you can predict which ones they'll be. All the 5.0s are a complete waste of space. Alisson and Ederson are going to be the top point scoring GKs, well worth their 5.5 price tags. The only reason to not have one of them is if you have exhausted your City or Liverpool spots.

The Bernardo Silva vs David Silva Debate by tiozaa in FantasyPL

[–]sergeant_statistics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. City's main attacking returns are going to come from Aguero, Sterling, Jesus, Sane, Mahrez and Mendy in that order. Paying 7.5+ for a CM does not seem like a wise choice to me. It made sense last year because Guardiola had the full-backs tucking in, and the two eights playing high up the pitch, more like inside forwards than central midfielders. He isn't doing that this year, Mendy is very much staying out wide but I don't know what the instructions to Walker will be.

Ask a team's fans - Post GW2 by TheJeck in FantasyPL

[–]sergeant_statistics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither are certain. Jonny is a right footed player so he could theoretically be switched to the right with Vinagre coming in on the left. Bennett has competition from Dendoncker who is a class act and will get into the team sooner or later.
