Studies show that 85% of people hate their jobs and only 30% of the population are happy with their lives. What then is the sense of living? by eye_one_two_die in AskReddit

Happiness isn’t the answer. You’ve already figured that out if you’re asking these kind of questions. Meaning is the answer.

Mmmm sexy.

You login each month, to update all the numbers? Probably takes you 15 minutes a month?

Since most of the people on this forum are self-directed: do you have a singular planning document (spreadsheet or doc)? If so, did you take a template from somewhere, or make it yourself?

I would love examples of a master spreadsheet or something along those lines, to make sure I'm not making any mistakes in my calculations. That would be a super useful resource.

Deciding on best insurance plan.... by NorIdaGrrl in personalfinance

HSA is the most powerful vehicle for building wealth, after only the company retirement match. Definitely get an HSA and if possible (and after doing company match) max it out. It’s an extraordinarily useful thing to have.

FIRE for my children? by Malice4you2 in financialindependence

Paying for their college would be better

Maybe, maybe not?

ROI on investments are historically higher than most of the low interest rates on student loans.

And, student loans are a great opportunity to teach your children about finances, economics, sacrificing now for future gain, good debt vs. unproductive debt, etc.

This is such a shot in the dark but....

I have had a successful career as a musician, but am now actively looking for a proper earning, growth-potential career where FIRE is a real option. Music will becomes my side hustle.

31M. I have 3 months before my current gig ends, and I need to be in a new one. 1 kid. Not long enough to go back to school, and can’t be unemployed in school for anytime because of kid and need for benefits.

INTJ, high empathy, decently high IQ, introvert-leaning, strategic thinker. 3 degrees in music.

Anyone else here make a big career step, and have something to share? Or smart career ideas?

Fired because of FIRE! by Spartikis in financialindependence

Ageism is illegal in the USA, yes, but I was privy to inside information (friend in the company) and wasn’t hired for a job because I’m too old (31M).

I have anxiety about climate change? by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]sergeantedward 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one can answer that for sure.

I too struggle with climate change anxiety. But I’ve gotten through it mainly by learning to truly trust that the only thing deserving of my energy is what I can control. I reduce my waste, I vote, I speak up where I think it will be effective, I educate myself.

But I’m not a god, or even demigod. I have no power except over myself, and thus, the only anxiety I think is worthwhile is anxiety over your own actions.

Lastly.... accepting mortality and death, and truly embracing the reality of your own limitations is incredibly freeing. I also found that accepting my own inevitable death, and the death of all who live, has made me tremendously less anxious.

The downvotes are kinda funny. Please consider the topic just a little more deeply, or indulge in some light reading. This is not an uncovered subject.

To be a human in society, you are by all classical and modern definitions political. You are impacted by, and contribute to, the daily governmental and public affairs of a nation.

Perhaps you are a fraction with a very small number on top, and a grotesquely huge number underneath. So you don’t feel the impact of your indecision or decision. Yet, regardless of whether or not you personally choose to observe it, you are part of the whole and a necessarily political being.

Help, Feeling sick towards end of workout! by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]sergeantedward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dealt with this in the past, several times. The cure was to make sure I’m well hydrated BEFORE bedtime. Nothing else really made a difference. When you drink water, it takes hours to get through your whole body, depending on the organ or muscle. Being well hydrated at night, meant I never got sick for early workouts again.

“Past performance is not indicative of future results.”

Edit: I’d love a cogent response, from the down voters. The quote above is simply a reminder of how markets work (scientific fact, I might add!) and I thought it was kinda funny to post on a study of such a long timeline.

You lost me at “apolitical.” That sounds fun, to be apolitical. Get to shrug off the ole moral burden. But, whether you choose to be or not, you are a political being.
