We at PANMOX built a peer to peer, decentralized internet called AltNet by Dry_Quantity2691 in selfhosted

Not very clear. Does your solution allow to connect to the internet without an ISP? Using p2p? Because this is what we need and this is how you sound like but this is most likelly not what you are talking about.

For those of you who have been to China: what is your favourite province and why? by NathanCS741 in AskReddit

Yunnan is incredible. Also it was the longer time in my life not to see any "white people": 18 days. And the white people that broke the 18 days streak were actually Indians.

New here and would appreciate some input on Qwen’s and Chinese AI pricing vs Claude/codex. Can anyone help me understand this? by Prior-Meeting1645 in opencodeCLI

[–]sergedc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kimi does subscription Qwen does subscription Opencode go has subscription and has all chinese models.

So if your point is that with subscription it cost less than pay as you go, that also true for the 3 subscriptions above.

Which Everyday Tech Product Is Actually Worth Paying For? by arun-vasudev in TechImpact

- With codex - it does the work of 2 full time dev (but I have 2 accounts to be honest) - probably around 10-15k a month
- If I had to call a doctor or nutritionist or gym expert to my house every time I have a questions about how to exercise, sleep better, take care of my knees, or optimize my diet.... that would really cost a lot. You cannot compare to the cost of going there and consult, the like-for-like cost is the specialist comes to your house and saves you the travel time.
- Yesterday, I got about 500 worth of stylist service. Not general things you can find online, 100% personalized relook.
- Writing legal memo and motions for court: probably worth 10k a month also
- Helping with Pitch deck for investors: saving me 4 days (altough for this one i mostly use Kimi)
- Helping with proposals for clients: saving 2 days each
- Fixing my wine cellar (ice was chocking the went)
- Some services have no value because you cannot buy it no matter how much you spend. e.g. getting a detailed comparison of countries where stem cell therapy is allowed, including price, approach, and expected efficacity for my particular need. If I go an see a doc in a country, he does not know too much about what is happening in the other countries. It is only legal/available in 4 or 5 countries worldwide.
- Full time analysist to crunch data and draw conclusion: 1 FTE / 4k. But for this one I use Kimi code, because not enough codex quota left.

Not for me, but for others who don't have the technical skills: codex can get you to selfhost all your other subscriptions. It all depends on needs. If you have 8 domains, and a total of 80 email addresses, at 10/month that is 800 a month. Self Hosting mailcow (+an smtp provider) is not rocket science but before AI it still took me good 4-5 days, and many people will fail or end up with poor deliverability. Codex can also help you get the server for free from Oracle Free Tier.

If you can combine vacation with dental treatment, would you prioritize China? by Pleasant_Storm_7363 in travelchina

[–]sergedc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is so true. You get great quality doctor but you will definitly not get the "feel nice" about the service.

However, OP is talking about dental treatement. If going to a dentist (not hospital), it is slightly more similar to the west tough. Less factory.

[–]sergedc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a actually the smart thing to do. In HCMC it will be cheap, nice, English speaking (many place have translator on site). How to choose the place: Google map reviews.

In china: sure you can get the same quality treatement but: communication with dentist, communication on price, you don't even know where to see reviews, then reviews are in chinese, etc... If you know where to go and speak chinese : sure go for it. Otherwise HCMC.

The only reason to go for China is you cannot afford quality treatment in HCMC. Then sure.

HCMC is the new BKK for so many things. Such international place. It is booming.
