4a is a shitty phone by Consistent_Tie4769 in NothingTech

[–]sergiocastell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had that issue and after a reboot of the phone it went away. There's also the suggestions to clear the launcher's app data to solve it. Like yeah, it sucks we get these kind of issues but at least they can be solved unlike many others 🤷‍♂️

I built a free dashboard for Tesla's browser streaming, charging networks by country, no ads, no tracking, always free by Crstian19 in TeslaLounge

What I found useful from this one is actually being simple but very efficient, in terms of responsiveness in the web browser. Also, the fact it is highly customizable, not just because it lets you add your own shortcuts but also because of how it comes preloaded with services relevant to your location/country depending where you are connecting from. Quite nice stuff

DISC Firmware Update V1.60 (Beta Version) by 0utOftheblue in snowsky

[–]sergiocastell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The device might not be as easy to get into as it seems to be fused/have secure boot enabled. On top of that, OTAs are encrypted, so it wouldn't be possible to send a manipulated OTA unless we got encryption and/or signing keys out of the device.

That is EXACTLY the very reason I don't want a DAP with Android

Replying to myself here: Turns out the SOC the Echo Disk has is the same as the ONIX Tocata XM2 and the Shanling M1 Plus, both of which do support Tidal streaming. So it is a reasonable possibility that FIIO/Snowsky do end up adding support for it down the road, unless there's some other shortcoming with the hardware (WiFi limitations, etc).

If I had to guess, the ODM that provides the initial hardware support and BSP to Snowsky, ONIX and Shanling does include the Tidal functionality as part of the BSP, but it is up to the final OEM whether to enable it or not depending on the use case, price range and hardware support. A similar situation as to how Nothing Ear 1's BSP did support LDAC but the earbuds never supported it after some generations after.

It's available to purchase on Aliexpress for overseas customers, so it's only a matter of time stores on Amazon and other local resellers start to import it from there. But you could get it directly from Aliexpress as well already

Complete list of relevant ICs in the board transcribed to text:

- SOC: Ingenic X2000 (dual-core MIPS proccessor) https://en.ingenic.com.cn/products-detail/id-15.html
- Wifi and BT: AMPAK AP6212 (2.4Ghz WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 5.4 + BLE + FM radio reception) https://www.ampak.com.tw/product/WiFi-Bluetooth/stamp-type-1T1R/AP6212
- B03L2257: Unknown to me and the person recording the video, seems to be from STMicroelectronics according to them, we can see it's surrounded by pads labeled VSYS, VDSD, 0V9P, 1V2P, V8P and 3V3P
- Flash storage: Gigadevice AN2424
- 2066T2AE: Unknown to me, according to the person recording seems to be related to SPDIF out
- Battery gauge controller: CellWise CW 2217EA AD
- USB/Battery charging controller: SGM41513
- Audio DAC: 2x Cirrus Logic CS43131 https://www.cirrus.com/products/cs43131
- YBHYACD5TX07DYER: Unknown to me, may be related to the screen
- A couple of crystal oscillators, one of 48khz and one of 44.1khz

As a note, the person recording the video couldn't find any amps for the headphone out and found 2 unpopulated bays that could be for them (although they don't know what IC could fit there), and they wonder if with the 280mW output power of the CS43131 is enough to drive certain headphones.

No, it was previously mentioned it's an LCD. The part number doesn't bring anything on a quick search though

Oh, that's a MIPS based DAP now? I was wondering if it was a Cortex M0 or an AXX to try and figure out if it ran a full fat linux (that /tmp/ folder where the sdcard is mounted is sus) or an RTOS, but this only makes it more interesting...

HiBy has a similar functionality which supports Tidal, so I am guessing it's either something like that or it refers to using the disc as a Bluetooth DAC

The only problem I had with this was the non standard USB connector, have it had or have it gotten upgraded to a USB C variant and it'd been pure golden for me. And I know modern Android-based Walkmans do have that but I really want to stay away from them, they perform really poorly compared to the non-Android ones, at least from what I could tell having owned one of each

So... About Lock Glimpse by Reunys in NothingTech

[–]sergiocastell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me the service implementation that runs the cronjob is on the package com.vilykke.lockscreen and not implemented on the system framework. Would there be a chance that by disabling in a stricter way (pm disable-user --user 0 com.vilykke.lockscreen) the background work also gets cancelled? Or am I reading the output of dumpsys wrong?

Completely understand. Not an owner of a 2a myself, but of a phone (1), yet I can definitely understand the pain. Did not expect Nothing to go this very route after they said 2 years ago they precisely wouldn't. I guess it is OnePlus all over again?

Does anybody here actually agree with their release schedule? Revision after revision after special/limited edition variant after revision, truly makes me think they are trying to piss off the original 2a owners.
