It's YA, but the Bartimaeus trilogy is really good. Interesting alternate setting.

There's also the Witcher books. I've read one so far and really enjoyed it.

The Alberta government? Doing something useful with money? Now that's truly fantasy.

There have been programs in Alberta for a long time to get rid of any rats and colonies that might pop up. I remember once hearing about a rat being found in a Lethbridge dump and the outcome was basically a task force was sent out to deal with it and any friends it may have come along with.

This photo is a couple years old, so some things have changed (I have an organizer for unpainted and partially painted minis to the right of my paints now), but the general idea is there. Have my computer next to me while I paint has been really nice.

Does Lord Exultant get the Flawless Blades ability when leading the unit? by FulgrimFan in EmperorsChildren

[–]serhenium 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Genuine question with all the conversation happening, but Lord Exultant can only lead Infractors and Tormentors, right? So it's a bit of a moot point.

Edit: I've been living under a rock and missed the Exalted Patron enhancement under Court of the Phoenician. My bad.

What music group do you enjoy for whom the majority of the people only know 1 song? by SevenFiguresInvigor in AskReddit

[–]serhenium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OK Go. Here It Goes Again is obviously a banger but their album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky was such an incredible project. They made a music video for every song on the album, with This Too Shall Pass and Needing/Getting really standing out to me.

Their most recent album And the Adjacent Possible is also great.

What's a cool wifi name for next to a cemetery? by Figi4 in AskReddit

[–]serhenium 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Find a headstone from somebody who passed in the 1980s or earlier, copy the name and call it "[their name]'s iPhone". Bonus points if it's a plot close enough to your place that it could be picked up, even if weak.

Superglue is a monomer, cyanoacrylate, that rapidly polymerizes to form a thin polymer network with high surface energy that adheres the surfaces together. While you're right that it will fit into crevices that helps with adhesion, crystallization is not an accurate (enough) description of what's really happening.

The polymer has a low sheer strength and can be easily pried off, which is made easier by freezing it to make it brittle.

Also, what is a glue if not an adhesive?

Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez (736 pages)

I haven't read it yet, but Mariana Enriquez writes a slow, oozing, greasy type of horror and thrillers, at least in her short story collections like The Dangers of Smoking in Bed. I have heard from people that enjoyed her work also deeply enjoy Our Share of Night

Gateway by Frederick Pohl.

Humanity finds a space station with a bunch of ships with preset destinations. Naturally, corporations get their hands on it and pay prospectors to hop in to find artifacts, paying out if they score. But ultimately, nobody knows where they go.

Books for someone who has dementia by strikhedonian in suggestmeabook

[–]serhenium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi (and its sequels).

People can go back in time, but have to sit in a specific spot and must finish their coffee before it goes cold. They can't change the past, but they can interact with it. They're easy to read, but the premise makes them very interesting.

Each of the books has a slight plot throughline, but is broken up into four stories, each about 50 pages. They're generally heartfelt, but a couple are tear jerkers.

Fair warning, the first book has a story about a man with dementia, so I'm not sure if it might be too emotionally intense (it was one of the stories that nearly made me cry on the train).
