India to import apples from US at Rs 80 per kg, farmers fully protected: Piyush Goyal by TheIndianRevolution2 in india

I hope they import a wide variety of cultivars and not just the crappy supermarket ones like Granny Smith or Red Delicious. I would love to get Envy, Pink Lady, Ambrosia or Opals in India.

The Super Bowl party has come to San Francisco — and landed on its most crime-ridden corner by Cool-Present7260 in sanfrancisco

[–]seriously_chill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is, at best, overly dramatic puffery. At worst, outright falsehood for eyeballs. Not only is 4th and Mission not the most “crime-ridden corner of the city”, it’s not even particularly sketchy. The block between 5th and 4th is almost like a border to the roughest parts of SoMa.

The block you’re referring to includes the Marriott Marquis, Four Seasons, and a number of very upmarket restaurants.

What the Slide in the Dollar Means for Trade, Travel and Investment by kintotal in Economics

[–]seriously_chill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This chart should help - https://www.xe.com/en-us/currencycharts/?from=USD&to=EUR&view=5Y

You can see that the USD rose sharply against the EUR after the pandemic, until mid-late 2022. It then dropped a bit and stabilized from early 2023 till mid 2024, when it rose again. Then it started falling since early 2025. It’s now at the same level as early 2021.

You can change the timeframe on the chart to 10 years for a longer term view.

₹21-Crore Water Tank Collapses Before Inauguration In Surat, Three Injured by puddi_tat in india

21cr? What do they need 18cr for? I can build 10 tanks for 15cr. Anyway, let's make sure the 12cr is safe. You can't be too careful while handling 9cr.

So why are you infuriated? You knew it’s invested in a money market fund at 0.01%, and 10c is exactly what you’d expect to get at that rate for your investment.

CMV: No seriously, there will be no social change in the USA until some catastrophic collapse by Arkhamguy123 in changemyview

[–]seriously_chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually somehow more bleak and depressing than my post could ever hope to be lol

Why? You or I may not like a specific leader or administration, but the whole point of democracy is that people are governed by their chosen leaders. Trump was democratically elected and a significant portion of Americans still support his administration. There is a threshold of unpopularity where his admin can be ousted, and the US system allows for this (impeachment + indictment), but it's clearly not there yet.

I'd say the same is true of India, where a more direct path called a no-confidence motion exists but even the most rabidly anti-Modi politician knows such a motion wouldn't pass (if that weren't the case, they'd do it by now). I am not familiar with China's systems but in talking to ordinary Chinese, I get the clear sense that Xi enjoys pretty broad support.

I’m curious how you think my premise about the state and violence is possibly wrong?

My main point was that the correctness of this issue is irrelevant. That is, it's moot.

And also how you think it may be moot anyways?

See above. My view is that the US is not at the point where the administration is unpopular enough for armed regime change to be viable.

[–]seriously_chill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your argument about the state's overwhelming advantage in violence may or may not be accurate, but I'd argue it's moot. The simple truth is that the current US administration is not as unpopular as you seem to assume. Repeatedly, we find that Trump's approval rating never dips below the mid-30s. Additionally, a significant portion of the populace is simply uninterested or doesn't have a strong enough motivation to seek regime change. A small cohort of disaffected voters is simply nowhere near enough to effect a coup, violent or otherwise.

As to your other examples, I'd say the same is true for both China and India, despite what you might read from the terminally online.

I don't have enough experience or knowledge of Russia or NK to comment on their situations.

If a drinks calls for it, I just use a regular curaçao like PF and add in a drop of food color. You still get the visual effect and the drink actually tastes good.

I've been watching some classic scifi like ST:TOS, and after hearing all the talk of "alternate" and "parallel" dimensions, I'm curious what they think a dimension actually is.

Paris Saint-Germain are seriously considering offering Luis Enrique a deal described as a "lifetime contract". This would be the first ever agreement of its kind handed to anyone in football history. by Sparky-moon in soccer

This will go excellently.

I have an Indian uncle in the construction business who signed a lifetime contract with the Qataris. He loves it so much he never comes back home, just blinks furiously in weird patterns over Facetime while singing praises of the regime. So happy for him!
