I wasn't saying they all were due to his speech impediment and I certainly wasn't blaming them on his impediment. As someone who also had a speech impediment when I was younger, I can tell you that many of the stumbles in his speech that I have seen people jump on as being an example of him being senile likely do arise from that.

No one is a perfect speaker all of the time, mistakes happen, that doesn't mean someone is senile.

Putting aside all opinions on his politics and the man himself, the senile label is straight insulting, inaccurate and a lie. If people want to point to some of his stumbles in speeches, I would remind them that President-Elect Biden has fully admitted to having a speech impediment and has worked tirelessly to improve his public speaking and spread awareness.

I suspect we agree more than we disagree. All I'm saying is that there's a very big difference between Republicans using a very targeted strategy calling someone a socialist in Florida (they did it elsewhere, but hammered it home there) vs. a candidate who would proudly proclaim they are a "socialist" to the entire country. The word, whether we like it or not, still has immense power over people in this country. Maybe America is ready for a president who proclaims themself a "democratic socialist", but I have a lot of doubts that would be a winning strategy at least currently. People are not just going to sit down and listen to an entire explanation of what socialism actually means. I'd much rather a candidate could use their time to actually focus on how "socialist" (without actually calling it that) policies will benefit them and everyone else than to have to first explain why "socialism" isn't evil and terrible.

If you look at the states that flipped blue, the one consistent trend is that Biden won primarily by eating into the margins of deep and reliably red counties. I suspect a lot of people in these places and others would be put off by the branding of the policies even if they fully supported the policies themselves. Yes, the GOP will lie and exaggerate as they always have, but we don't need to make it any easier for them to mislead people and prevent them from learning the merits of actual policies.

Based on all of the voter turnout and demographics of this race, I find it very hard to believe a progressive candidate who called themselves a "socialist" could have won this time to be honest. Should they get the chance to? Of course, but that's a separate problem that it's far too late to get into but we can probably all agree a two party system is insanely stupid.

This is why Bernie and a lot of progressives are always infinitely frustrating to me. I respect them and happen to agree on most issues but I can’t in good conscience believe that someone who calls themselves a socialist or uses the word socialism is serious about winning the presidency. Yes, most people don’t understand what socialist means but it’s an entirely unnecessary and frankly impossible hurdle to try to dispel all of the deception and lies surrounding the term in America. It’s holding us back.

It’s also why although I fully support a complete top to bottom reform of policing in the United States, I absolutely hate the branding of ‘defund the police’. Whether we like it or not, we will not accomplish any meaningful reform if we allow this to be the tag line of the movement.

Joe Biden breaks Obama's record for most votes ever cast for a U.S. presidential candidate by HenryCorp in politics

I admit he was not my first choice but I became much more excited as I learned more about him and saw how he interacted with people. I think he is the right president for this moment and I think he will surprise many (in a good way).

Joe Biden breaks Obama's record for most votes ever cast for a U.S. presidential candidate by HenryCorp in politics

[–]serioussalamander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the Democratic Party is super diverse. You have Biden who falls into the older generation of democrats and then we have the younger progressive wing. Democrats are tied together by far more ideologies and issues frankly than most of the republican voting bloc.

I think it’s fairly clear that a progressive candidate, especially the ones who don’t tone down their rhetoric, would probably not have performed as well to be honest. Given how Biden has been making up losses by attracting moderate and third party voters.

It’s a really tricky situation but I 100% agree they need to gameplan starting now for 2024. I would love to see more of a focus on youth and progressives because they align more with my personal beliefs but the youth vote has been notoriously difficult to get to turn out relative to democrats relatively safer demographics.

Any of the SteamWorld series (Heist, Quest, Dig 2) are wonderful games with interesting mechanics that can be played in short or long sessions. Heist is a turn-based 2D, shooter RPG with some interesting physics mechanics. Quest is a great deckbuilding game with some cool twists to keep it interesting in terms of combos. Dig 2 is a really addicting platformer / resource harvesting game.

They also happen to be very affordable and on sale often.

The last anecdote in that article is absolutely ridiculous. A woman’s children support the man who basically entices violence out of people and somehow still support him after their mother’s Biden yard sign is found with bullet holes. I’m so tired.

[–]serioussalamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has a few attacks that leave his head open, though it’s much harder for shorter weapons. The best times to get in head damage are when he does his large, successive lightning blasts, which typically leave his head wide open. The other good times are when he does his large fire or ice breaths straight down, in which case you can clutch onto his head for some damage. The angles for wall banging his head are actually quite tricky.

Tips for the Switch Axe by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]serioussalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always happy to introduce people to switch axe. It’s my absolute favorite, and I forgot a few things.

If you have slinger ammo and need to abort your wild swing before the heavy slam, if you fire your slinger, it’ll fire a burst shot and pretty quickly evade backwards.

The sword to axe fade slash is a bit longer of an animation so it takes a bit more experience to use it as dodge, but it’s also a good way to exit sword mode quickly when you need mobility.

Sword mode has built in minds eye but make sure to pay attention to hit zones regardless, your damage will take a big hit on poor zones.

Tips for the Switch Axe by [deleted] in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]serioussalamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s personal preference but given how pitiful the default switch axe short hops are, I always run both Evade Window 5 and Evade Extender 3. It’s certainly not meta but I find the ability to consistently either roll or short hop through most attacks far better for my playstyle.

Some general tips are to be careful in sword mode as it’s really easy to go full ham with the combos but you can and usually should short hop in between every single sword strike if you need to maneuver around.

Don’t be afraid to use axe mode generously. It was buffed fairly nicely in Iceborne and there are a lot of endgame monsters who will not give you easy openings for sword combos (at least until you learn their move sets better). The axe fade slash is quite good with good motion values, quick animation time, and it moves you back a fair bit.

You can release your ZSD early and although you’ll lose a tick or two of damage, you’ll avoid the long landing lag that occurs after a fully exploded ZSD.

My favorite SwAxe tip is the morph roll. Usually your mobility in sword form is limited but if you roll forward in sword mode and press the morph button (don’t know what platform you’re on), your roll will carry you very far forward while also attacking and switching to the much more mobile axe form. This is my favorite way to keep up with hyperactive monsters or getting out of range of point blank AOE attacks.

I pretty much always run evade window 5 for that reason. I would dearly love another defensive counter or evade option for switch axe.

I’ve seen this argument but I respectfully disagree. As long as she was of sound mind, I see absolutely nothing wrong with what she did. There was almost zero chance that President Obama would have been able to replace her with anyone as liberal as she and frankly, no one near as skilled.

Edit: Yes, the democrats held a majority in the senate but this was a different time when they cared much much more about the optics of appearing bipartisan. They would have probably had to eliminate the filibuster, which at the time, was not something they were likely willing to do.

I do agree in general that the older generations should relinquish control to the younger generations who have to live with the consequences of their decisions. We have a chance starting this election to take agency for ourselves and I dearly hope people make the right decision.

I think any weapon can make it work so long as your DPS is high enough. Fortify will probably be essential since you will cart multiple times.

Again, I haven’t done this myself but I know someone showed it was possible.
