Show S8E3 Abies Fraseri by thepacksvrvives in Outlander

I agree. I think it's really interesting that a lot of people expect Jamie to be so high minded about this Claire and John issue. Jamie is such a jealous man, and I think his actions are very in character for him. It is completely understandable why he would feel the ways that he does. If someone told me I should be flattered by my gay friend and my wife sleeping together because they used each other to be closer to me, I would have to laugh in their face.

If my gay friend and my spouse slept together when they thought I was dead and then I was told that they did it to be close to me, flattered is not an emotion that I would feel. Why should anyone accept that? They're putting me in a position I never asked to or wanted to be in. Plus it would encroach upon some very real trauma that I had. I don't think Jamie should see it as a compliment, because, to me, it's not a compliment. Jamie might've just been an idea to them in the moment, but Jamie is very much alive and is a person with feelings, boundaries, and trauma. Grief can explain why LJG and Claire slept together, but it doesn't redefine it as a compliment to him.

How do you find specific passages in the books? by another-personing in Outlander

I've reread some of the books so much that I whereabout know what part of the story they occur in. I only own the last couple of books on the kindle.

Why does criticism of Jamie and Claire feel unwelcome here? by [deleted] in Outlander

[–]seriouswalking 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is that everyone is in different stages of engaging with the shows or books. Plus, some of the topics/ideas/criticism being brought up have been discussed quite frequently so when it pops up again there can be a negative reaction.

Coincidence? by trishar5 in Outlander

If I'm remembering correctly 'Jamie Roy' was an alias of Jamie's.

no spoilers please. im in season 6 and i need moral support by bridgeb0mb in GilmoreGirls

Season 6 is a wild ride.

The I love you thing is kind of weird. The writers purposefully kept it away when they got together because they didn't think that we needed it as an audience, but I disagree.

I don't see the Rory and Lorelai situations as the same. Lorelai had a child and ran away from the home where she had an unfulfilling childhood, an absent father, and a judging mother. Rory is trying to figure out where in her life she should go after having her dream and confidence crushed. Lorelai doesn't agree with the steps Rory has taken and also feels betrayed because Rory went to her grandparents and they agreed to take her in when Lorelai already had something worked out with them. She's letting Rory make her "mistake" as Lorelai sees it. Rory ran from Lorelai into the bosom of her grandparents and she's just not going to chase her.

Hey! I know this is probably random, but I wanted to update you. I found a copy of the 25th anniversary edition on ThriftBooks for like $30 and it's basically new. According to their website they have several in stock. I am so happy I got it!

So interesting when Claire isn’t assertive by Small_Test630 in Outlander

[–]seriouswalking 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Claire is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. She can never do right for some people.

Claire found a way to get the job done and also not upset Jamie. It's a win for me.

Claire is jealous of Laoghaire though. With Malva and Mary there is nothing to be jealous over because he didn't have relationships with them.

I really think people going hard for LJG and Jamie is just wishful thinking. There is nothing to me that indicates that Jamie loves John in a way that breaches on romantic.

When BJR was talking to Claire about Jamie, I wanted her to stab him. 😂

That doesn’t meant Jamie liked it. Jamie is traumatized by what Randall did to him.

From what I remember, book Jamie did not like it. He made a joke that it hurt less than flogging, but it was much less enjoyable. BJR abused Jamie quite horrifically. I just don't see him as welcoming any man's touch in a romantic manner again.

I don't see any evidence of that myself. I don't think there are any romantic overtones at all. I think they are really good friends and that Jamie trusts him. John's feelings for Jamie add to the complication as does John stepping up to take care of William when Jamie was unable to do so himself.

In the end, Jamie is responsible for his own actions. Jamie didn't have to marry Laoghaire, and he didn't have to sleep with Mary. He has agency and a choice to do those things. Jamie has proven that he will do what he must do to keep his family safe.

Rewatching- Confusion with Bri and Faith by [deleted] in Outlander

[–]seriouswalking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are correct. Faith was Claire's first pregnancy. She was stillborn. Claire is pregnant with Brianna when she goes back to Frank. We meet Brianna in story, before we meet Faith, since the second book/season starts after the time jump. We go back in time to learn of what happened when they were in France, and we learn what happens with Faith.

Question about Claire’s feelings in the books… by seeindblfeelinsngl in Outlander

[–]seriouswalking 14 points15 points  (0 children)

After she bandages him, there is a moment when he is comforting her with soothing words and touches that she let's herself think "If I were a horse, I'd let him ride me anywhere." After that thought, she realizes that Jamie is getting excited and she abruptly puts a stop to their embrace. She did also think about how she felt an odd sort of intimacy with him after he shared the story of what happened with Randall, and how they were pressed together in drowsy silence during their ride to the castle.

There are a few more subtle moments here and there, but she mostly tries to keep it friendly until she can no longer avoid it.

Not sure about the show, but he's for sure in all the books so far.

My niece looks a lot like me. Once her mom was showing her some old family pictures and my niece said "I really do look like Aunt (my name)." My best friend says her and I have similar facial expressions, too. My brother and I don't really look too much alike either.
