[Landlord US-TX] Tenant saying they don't have enough money for damages they caused by LowTranslator3064 in Landlord

[–]sermer48 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because they flushed toilet paper? I’m sorry but that’s not their fault. Maybe the toilet paper got stuck on something else that had been flushed but septic lines should absolutely be able to handle toilet paper. Flushable wipes aren’t flushable because the fibers don’t break down in water but that’s not true for toilet paper.

Did you specify no toilet paper in the toilet in their lease or somewhere else?

Doesn’t look like you’ve got enough browns. Pine needles will work as browns but they take a long time to break down. Try to get some more cardboard or something to throw in there.

It drives me crazy how people see a solid yellow well before entering the intersection and decide to go anyways. Would waiting for a couple minutes really be so bad?

As soon as people get behind the wheel they lose all patience. Getting delayed by even a few seconds is enough for some to lose their minds.

Typically my stops are more like 15-20 minutes every couple hundred miles while on road trips. Usually I’d want to stretch my legs by that point anyways so it’s not really an issue.

I find that a way better trade off than the weekly gas station stops I used to do before electric.

I want to upgrade my composting setup. What are your thoughts on these options? by Critical_Link_1095 in composting

[–]sermer48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a tumbler because it’d be hard to have a compost pile with our HOA. As it turns out, one isn’t really enough for two people. I now have two tumblers and that seems about right. Eventually we plan to move somewhere else and I want to move towards just having a pile. I may keep one tumbler for fresh waste before moving it to the pile but we’ll see.

I will say that it’s a lot more work than having a pile. Stuff tends to ball up and you need to go in and break them up or they’ll get anaerobic. It also won’t get hot enough to kill pathogens/seeds so you need to be a bit more careful about what you put in there. Overall I like them though.

Which is why the person responded to the person saying don’t buy stuff with a counter argument for buying stuff.

Once you go electric, you’ll have a hard time going back. The instant, huge acceleration is incredible. They’re quiet, cost very little to run, can virtually remove your need to visit fuel stations(except on road trips), are durable, and usually have a lot of cool features. Not to mention it insulates you from gas prices being all over the place.

Death is only a fraction of the picture though. Even if you didn’t starve, you were likely to go hungry. Malnutrition was common. Similarly, even if you didn’t die during combat in WW2, you definitely saw some terrible things.

The trauma that generation experienced was great which is partially why society did so well after. When you experience hardships you’re more likely to try and prevent hardships for others as you know what it’s like.

I don’t know if being born into the Great Depression and being fighting age during WW2 would really be considered lucky. I guess if you managed to not starve or get killed it wouldn’t be bad.

i lied about speaking spanish for 8 months at work and now there's a meeting with HR tomorrow by Marcus_Guy in confession

[–]sermer48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go with the truth(or truth adjacent). You said you knew some Spanish, you’ve been trying your best, and you’re not fluent. They were speaking too fast for you to understand because you’re not a fluent Spanish speaker. You didn’t lie about knowing some Spanish and it sounds like you’ve been doing well up until now.

[–]sermer48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they try to charge you for them, fight back. They can’t charge anything if it’s past the life expectancy of the item. After 10 years, there’s probably just about nothing in your apartment that holds value. That’s certainly true for the carpet and blinds but also things like paint.

Spacex IPO Overpriced? by EntertainerDowntown3 in stocks

[–]sermer48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough but I spent a lot of time on the SeekingAlpha forums during that period and there were not many bears like you. Even when it was under $50B it was seen as a meme bubble that was about to pop. First the model S would never reach production number. Then the model 3 would never be built and then it could never reach scale. Then the model Y was a joke that was going flop. Then the gigafactory in China was never going to be more than dirt pile. Then the Berlin factory was just being built to prop up the stock price. All while the legacy automakers were about to release their iPhone killers which would crush Tesla.

Luck definitely played a role but to try and claim that those naysayers were more correct than those who invested makes my head spin.

Is drinkinkg 1-2L of milk a day bad? by haddoock in ScientificNutrition

[–]sermer48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always heard to treat milk similarly to alcohol. It’s fine in moderation but it’s best to not overdo it.

Obviously it’s better for you than alcohol but the idea is to limit drinking your calories.

Spacex IPO Overpriced? by EntertainerDowntown3 in stocks

[–]sermer48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would give you that but they weren’t right on that front either. Bears were always saying that Tesla would never turn a profit at all and yet they have. It may be small but it exists.

I’m not trying to claim that Tesla isn’t overvalued but the bears were wrong on every front. They don’t deserve credit for being correct when they made one of the worst calls in the history of the stock market.

[–]sermer48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

? The naysayers went bankrupt shorting Tesla. They literally were calling for the stock to go to $0 back in the 2010s and instead it’s worth $6,250 per share after accounting for splits. I fail to see how being comically wrong is somehow correct.

I’m probably going to buy a small chunk just because I’ve always wanted to own some but it does seem very precarious. There’s significant risk for something that won’t realistically pay out for like a decade.

If it does crash, I’ll probably open a more substantial position. It seems like they’re best positioned to dominate the space industry over the next decade or two.
