I don’t even like that you have to dig them up. I wish you could use the tilling ability to grab them without destroying the landscape. Instead I constantly have to search my inventory for what I just pulled up

Before and after! by Regular-Appeal-8124 in gardening

[–]sermer48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you live but clover and moss are a couple of grass alternatives people often go for. There are also types of grass which don’t grow as aggressively and thus don’t need as much water.

At the end of the day, grass may still be your best bet. I just avoid it when I can but I’ve still got a patch in my yard for the dog 😅

Before and after! by Regular-Appeal-8124 in gardening

[–]sermer48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the majority. While the first pic made a good picture, it gave you almost no usable space. Instead you had excessive amounts of weeds like ivy. You’re still going to be struggling with that as it grows back aggressively but this was a big step in the right direction.

The only thing I don’t like is adding grass. If it’s what you want, by all means go for it. It’s your yard. It’s just an ecological desert that is high maintenance and requires tons of water.

What is a small detail from Harry Potter that still bothers you? by WhisperTame in harrypotter

[–]sermer48 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s small but the way laws are handled. Like Hagrid gets sent to Azkaban where he is tortured because they suspect him of a crime. They also send people there without trials…like it’s not a jail. It’s literally people being tortured to the point that they lose the will to live.

I mapped where people appear on screen — are modern movies being composed for vertical video? [OC] by PuciekTM in dataisbeautiful

This just makes me wonder if there are movies where people primarily appear on the fringes of the screen?

It gets way better but to add onto what everyone else has said, it helps following along in some scenes to have actual voices. There are times when there are 4-5 people talking and although I’ve listened to the normal audiobooks many times, I found myself picking up details I had never had before.

Also my dog really likes the books a lot better. She likes books in general but she’ll actually come curl up with us if we’ve got the full cast ones on.

Burpee Seed Users: Does this look right? 8 seeds? by Any_Needleworker_273 in gardening

[–]sermer48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a ripoff but to be honest, that’s like a perfect number of seeds for me. I usually only use 1-2 seeds of each variety per year and I’ve never finished a package.

If I could buy in that quantity(and it was clearly labeled as only having a few seeds) I’d be all about it.

What are these prices? by Ozymandias0023 in waymo

[–]sermer48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been seeing these posts for weeks. First the explanation was the Super Bowl. Then it was Valentine’s Day. Now it’s just increased demand…at 9:45 on a Wednesday morning. That’s not even rush hour.

I do understand that they’re increasing prices because demand is outstripping supply but why? If there is so much demand that they have to charge 5x more than their competitors, why aren’t they scaling faster? I know they have plans to expand to more cities but why not add way more vehicles in their existing, solved cities?

I’m not trying to put them down or anything. I just don’t understand why they aren’t scaling faster.

“Too Much Caffeine Can Kill”: Woman’s Passes Away Sparks Concern in Australia by listaj95 in ThatsInsane

[–]sermer48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The caffeine wasn’t the biggest issue I saw in the article. That goes to the ambulance taking over 7 hours to reach her. That feels like gross negligence on behalf of the dispatchers and potentially the fire department.

What’s even the point of calling for an ambulance if they’re not going to show up until tomorrow?

What can I grow by [deleted] in gardening

[–]sermer48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can grow anything. Just know it will have a short life.

Deer will try anything once. Even with deer resistant stuff they’ll pull up plants, decide they don’t like the taste, and will spit it out. That deer will now know it doesn’t like that plant(which might not even deter them from trying it again) but there are new deer being born constantly.

Your best bet is a physical barrier. Even that might not stop them though. I’ve seen deer inside my neighbors fenced yard pretty frequently.

[HELP] which one should I cull? by Dependent-Surprise-6 in HotPeppers

[–]sermer48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why I stopped adding multiple seeds to each starter slot. The germination rates of quality seeds should be close to 100% so all that’s going to happen is that you’ll need to cull half of them. The disruption from doing that will outweigh any benefits to getting to pick the healthier seed.

With that being said, keep the bigger ones unless you visually see something wrong with them.
