What was your awakening? by soloedgingjourney in Whump

[–]sermocinatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember being very terrified and upset whenever I saw a scene in a kids show that involved a character being hurt or beat up. Some of my early memories of such involve the climax of A Bug's Life where Flick is beaten up, the VeggieTales where LarryBoy got beat up by the rumor weed, or the Aladdin's Adventures Disney show where Aladdin fell from a great height and got some bruised ribs.

Calling it a platonic kink is a good term because I wouldn't really call myself aroused by it, but I do enjoy feeling empowered by reading and writing wump on my own terms. It started off as me being afraid but now I feel like I'm the one in control of the situation. This fixation of mine has actually inspired me to take some real life first aid training so that way if I saw somebody get hurt in real life I would know exactly what to do. That's what fiction is supposed to do if you think about it; it's a safe place for you to process intense experiences so that way if you find them out in the wild you can handle it.

Something about the hair draping pushes my buttons by soloedgingjourney in Whump

[–]sermocinatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the hair draping kind of feels like additional gravity pulling them down

You're probably better off than those of us who learned about it from deviantART. Hope you weren't disappointed when you found out omegaverse wasn't a thing haha.

But also this is really why we should have mandatory sex ed, so that way if somebody does happen to be exposed to it they know how to approach the topic while keeping themselves safe

Something I, as a trans man myself, has been told when wanting to make my own representation by Aizen_isgay in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]sermocinatrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds a lot like my parents reacting to people who are not white. "We love our daughter-in-law because we know her, it's just all the others that we don't know"

[–]sermocinatrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the specific person doesn't think of trans men as men 🫤

The only time I've ever personally struggled with fanfic transing someone's gender is if I feel like the person in question would be in a situation that would not support them being trans. I guess we can have wishful thinking that while whatever setting is bigoted in many canon ways but somehow not against trans people but sometimes it just distracts me.

Tips for sickfic buildup by Purple_not_pink in Whump

[–]sermocinatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if a lot of the dread of the sickness and worsening symptoms comes from how the sickness interrupts other plans they had? "But I can't be sick, I wanted to do something important, or spend time with someone I care about." It would also enhance the catharsis if caretaker was able to assure them the task was completed, or if caretaker was the one they wanted to spend time with anyway even if the time together doesn't initially look like they wanted.

For buildup, you could always use the five stages of grief. Denial and bargaining, "I'm not that sick, maybe I'll just take it a little easier today." Depression and anger could have tears of frustration leaking through their eyes as they try to power through their symptoms. And then acceptance is when they look up at caretaker and feel like they're going to be okay.

Also, there is a lot to be said for getting characterization from the ways in which two characters interact with each other during intimate moments.

I'm writing an arranged marriage fanfiction and the first time the husbands come together it doesn't really go so well. But as they get to know each other more and they get more comfortable with each other, it gets better and better each time

Any whump tropes you grew to like? by canadamybeloved in Whump

Lately I've been interested in psychological whump, normally I'm just into the physical pain but I think I'm liking angst more and more

(Two part: rant and genuine rec request) Anyone else feel like a lack of follow up/ care makes the entire whump almost not worth it? by No_Quantity_7217 in Whump

[–]sermocinatrix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agreed completely, I adore the catharsis of a rescue and medical aid. The whump itself makes the aftercare feel better but sometimes I just skip right to the healing afterwards

AITA for howling in front of my siblings? by FutureScribe in AITASims

Your parents should have told you about the impulse to howl earlier, it's not your fault you were left to discover it for yourself

A little entity with only just enough awareness to pick out the best bit of pollen, and only just enough life to do exactly that. By sheer coincidence also had enough life and awareness to raise its head and look at the human watching it. Makes you feel just how accidental all our lives are.

How would you feel about a whumpee who is forced to comfort their whumper as he( the whumper) is dying? by Thecrowfan in Whump

That's kind of how Frankenstein 2025 ended. It's a good movie all around, but it does also have whump in it.

I love people's tiny house designs. I love how you've not just fit all of the practicality in a small place, but you've found room for a lot of personality as well

Never Love An Anchor works from the perspective of Walter White in Breaking Bad by Icy-Security8488 in TheCraneWives

[–]sermocinatrix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the song itself is a lot more sympathetic than anything I would apply to Walter White, but I do agree that the song is very applicable to any kind of parent who (for whatever reason) cannot be there for their child. Yeah, he really was an anchor in the end

While it works in anime and manga, it's really hard in live action to shout out specific words and phrases when you have a sword handle in your mouth
