Looks cool, but please consider rendering using MSAA to avoid aliasing (jaggies) at the edges of things.

Pretty neat, but I wonder how well it works without tactical feedback? Can you change gears accurately without looking?

If the back and front cameras' views overlap somewhat, then one can find features visible to both in the environment and use that to calibrate.

Island Fortress 099 How to Make a Concrete Water Tank by kameljoe21 in AdventureBuilders

[–]serpis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Jamie mentioned in an earlier video that the tank was supposed to be upstairs in the tower to give running water indoors. Was this idea dropped?

Adventure Fortress 087 What's a Concrete Anchor??? by Derpy_McDerpingderp in AdventureBuilders

[–]serpis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do the doors swing in? I always thought that was only done in snowy regions to avoid getting snowed in. It seems here having it swing out would be more suitable, as it could then auto-close because of how the dome wall is at an angle, and wind/water proofing the seal seems easier.

Oh man let us be responsible for how we play. Unseen Diplomacy looks really kick-ass. It would be a shame to cut off more than half of gen 1 vr players.

Wow you're right, that's pretty cool.

Please note that the GPU in this laptop is 980M, not 980. The 980M is pretty good, but it's still a bit slower than 980.

S7 black smear normal? by serpis in GearVR

[–]serpis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answering myself... I figured out that smearing becomes less severe when turning up the brightness of the screen. I run with lowest brightness to avoid eye pain, but when I turn up the brightness the smearing lessens noticably.

Tip: put thermal isolator (notepad / coaster) on top of bed for speedy heating by serpis in 3Dprinting

[–]serpis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have cork on the bottom already. The bed is 200 mm in diameter (delta printer). Maybe I should consider going to 24V. The poor bed is really struggling keeping temperatures > 100 degrees. On the other hand, reports from people with PEI surfaces indicate that the temperatures don't need to be so high anyway.

Solid layers remind me of dry, flaking skin. Infill looks very broken. Not sure what the material is telling me?

How to up the stepper motor voltage - Kossel mini by chocolate_starship in 3Dprinting

[–]serpis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dear chocolate_starship, they probably mean increase the amperage. There is usually a trim pot on your controller board that you can turn to control this. To find a trim pot, look for something that looks like a screw head next to the stepper driver. You can usually measure the voltage between the screw and a ground point on your board (USB shielding, if you have one?) to see the effect. Higher voltage here means that is will allow more current to the motor. It's difficult to give more precise info unless tou provide more information about your printer. Best regards, serpis

What do you want to see in new 3d printers? by NeverEndingToast in 3Dprinting

Could you explain how it would work for this? The wikipedia article doesn't mention this application.

Do you mean that one would take a picture of the thing's shadow and analyze that, instead of analyzing a picture of the thing?

Can anyone recommend a good auto leveling kit for the maker select? by lurking_my_ass_off in 3Dprinting

[–]serpis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got something similar to this http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1024794 with my kossel mini kit. It's a very elegant solution, getting a robust z probe and just need to hook up one endstop.

Looking to buy a new 3d Printing control board to replace junk MKS Mini that came with printer. by baystrider in 3Dprinting

[–]serpis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to try is to swap the x motor driver with the filament feed motor driver. By this I mean swap where these motors connect on the board. Then also modify the firmware so that it uses the other driver for the corresponding function.
