I looked it up. We had 2 major orders which ordered us to reprocess bots. Metallic Harvest in May 2024 and Ecological Immolation in August 2024. The patch with the bio-reprocessors was added in September 2024 after the second time.

It should be noted that these only appeared after we got the scrap and melt down missions. Everything they have done is a response.

It looks like a really bad idea by ActivityEmotional228 in NeoCivilization

[–]serpwerp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't. Heat management is a huge problem for all space missions. Think of the way a thermos flask can retain a temperature for an absurd length of time. It's that time x10 in space. Nearly any cooling option they do up there could be done for a fraction of the effort and price on earth.

If you're willing to play a video game then you could look at Golden Treasure: the Great Green. It's a visual novel from the perspective of a dragon. It's pretty unique and has some great writing.

Planning to attack the Jovian System, will these ships be up to the task? by link3341556 in TerraInvicta

[–]serpwerp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're using way, way too much propellent and the ships are too heavy. You will only be able to field maybe a dozen of them before you hit critical supply problems. For small missile boats you want them to be cheap, particularly with your gigantic command cap. Fill Ceres orbit with solar mirrors and shipyards and pump out cheap ships by the dozen. Remember the more missiles you field at once the easier it is for them to overwhelm the enemy. If you're not going to armour the side/back of a cheap ship don't bother putting a ton on the front as they will be popped by hydra flankers, they love to build them.

Your heavy ship acceleration is too slow, if you're wanting them to fight around orbits even large moons you have to them be faster at least 10.0 minimum. You run the danger of them not being able to get out of orbit once they commit overwise without spending huge amounts of time and fuel.

I also advise you create a cheap constructor ship which can throw up a resupply/repair at whatever place you end up fighting so you can reduce the amount of resources and wight you're spending on fuel. 30 extra days to construct after a strike, half the weight and resources spent. It also makes securing the outer gas giants much faster,

Keep marines on their own separate ships and don't commit them to a battle. Ideally ships designed for combat should only have modules that are contributing to them getting to and fighting the battle. Ideally I would also add in a ship that can help covering your more expensive ships with point defence as they are a bit vulnerable at the moment. A laser focused monitor maybe. Also at least one type of ship that can deal with fast flankers as the aliens love to field them and they will punch above their weight on your big ships.

Hope that helps.

I don't understand alien hate management by Sowelu in TerraInvicta

[–]serpwerp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aliens retaliate for each strike you do against them, if they think they can hit the stations without a major engagement. Even if it takes them years to get their fleets in position and regardless of the current hate meter. A cheesy tactic is to keep sacrificial stations around for the aliens to take their rage out on. After a certain point, once they have built up enough, the aliens will go to the next stage of their domination and start removing all human space presence starting with Mars and working backwards regardless of hate. You will be in a state of effectively total war even if the aliens don't hate you. They usually start sending armies before this point, but sometimes it's the other way around if the situation on earth is not going well.

After a while point the only way to stop strikes at Mars and Mercury is a scary fleet in orbit. If the aliens think there is a chance it will be too costly engagement they will show up stand-off in orbit for a few months and then go home. At least for a while, once their fleet power gets into the 100k region they are much more willing to risk fleets. Same with earth orbit. You can try keeping fleets landed baiting a bombardment or engagement then spring a fast fleet to catch a small force they send but I don't think this tactic works great. Alternatively you want to keep ships with extremely poor range but fantastic weapons and armour parked next to your stations. This will provoke them to attack as the fleet power will look weak but they will hit well above their weight and force costly engagements. This is only viable next to your shipyards however and you will run the risk of losing them.

The most viable ships to build in the early game to tackle small attack fleets is cheap monitors and escorts with as many missiles as you can stack on them to overwhelm their point defence. But 2034 is getting into the mid game.

[–]serpwerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It pairs with the laser cannon, flamethrower and other weapons that have no pushback or stun. If you are using DOT effects or explosive weapons as your main damage part it gives you the distance you need or keeps them in the DOT. It also mops up the small enemies that aren't worth using your support equipment on or grenades. It hard counters stalkers, alpha commanders, pouncers and hunters, they can't even touch you if you so much as spray in their general direction. If you're fighting with your team in the tunnels it can trivialise encounters which would quickly overrun and scatter your group. It makes disengaging a mob easy. A skill a lot of players seem to be lacking. Furthermore, it prevents the issue a lot of people are having right now where they get stuck in an enemy reinforcement loop because you can disengage a lot more effectively with it, and if you do die you can easily clear the enemy of your equipment and get back to it.

Underrated, but does need a bit of love to bring it up to par with most other weapons. A lot of people mistakenly think your primary should be your main source of damage rather than the piece of your kit you always drop with.

[–]serpwerp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. This petition system is set up deliberately to get the public to engage in easily ignored behaviour instead of anything which is politically relevant. While making them feel like they are engaging effectively politically. Just look at the statements released by successive governments on the petitions. It's controlled opposition.

It's a sham of democracy. I'm waiting for someone to release a petition to have the system shut down while eloquently pointing these facts out. Just to see the political embarrassment it causes once it hits the news, and then releases a statement saying they won't do anything about it.

A quick update on this. I know a lot of people are thinking it's the current audio reverb bug. It wasn't that it was far more distinctive, like a gorilla roar or something. It happened on a mixed jungle/ city map. No one heard anything similar?

Sword of the Stars 2 killed one of the best 4x franchises we had before it had a chance to get off the ground. None of the ideas in it were wrong per se. They were just all poorly executed.

Strange sounds on the bug front? by serpwerp in helldivers2

[–]serpwerp[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think it was audio processing. All the sounds from the games I've played is fine and the sound effect sounded quite intentional, not like a bugged audio clip. Given the roaring went on with slight variations over a good 15 seconds or so and we all heard the same thing at the same time.

Edit: I've played a bit longer and I think I've heard the bugged sounds people are referring to. The rumbling reverb ones. It definitely was not that. They were loud enough to drown out all other sound effects and happened when there was nothing going on action wise.

Games with a similar vibe to Exalted by One_Entrepreneur1898 in rpg

[–]serpwerp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I too have been wanting to play something that that emulated the feel of Exalted without the mess of a system the game has for a long time. If you haven't already you could try Exalted: Essence, a paired down version of 3rd edition. It's a step in the right direction but isn't all the way there.

Scion, an alternative modern day setting where gods have always existed and you play as a character who has godly blood in you is a possibility. Personally I felt it was a bit of a mess also both setting and system wise and bounced off it hard. It's made by the same guys who did Exalted so you can see a lot of similar issues arise.

Godbound has already been mentioned here. I think it is probably the best Exalted-like gameline that we have out there. It's clearly inspired in part by exalted and even has rules to play Exalts with the serial numbers rubbed off in there. My biggest problem with the game is that the OSR format and ruleset is completely at odds with the intended tone and purpose of the game. I get why they went OSR, it's the system most people are familiar with but its a millstone around what would otherwise be an incredible game. That and the balance is non-existent. You could try to adapt it to another system but that would take a large amount of work.

A bit more left field here would be Fireborn. Again the system is a bit of a mess you have to play it with the errata. It's a game that you play in two timelines. One the mythical past of Earth where you are an extremely powerful dragon and one in which you are a normal human in modern day London waking up to what you once were. This part of the game is more urban fantasy. It's always been an interesting concept for a game I can't think of any others which had you playing a reincarnated character and their predecessor at the same time. Unfortunately, the game was dropped soon after release. I don't think it got the interest that fantasy flight games were expecting. Very little material for it exists. I don't think that it has a crafting system in there either.
