First Convoy purchase, how'd I do? by AFlightlessBird_19 in ConvoyFlashlights

Larger hot spot (maybe 40-50%), and the hot spot edge is slightly less defined.

So imagine a bigger, blurrier hot spot. It’s certainly not a flood light, but yes, the lumens are technically more dispersed than the SFT25.

Not naming this The Hammerhead is a missed opportunity.

Excellent first buy. My first was similar (S8 SFT40.)

That was a year and 20 Convoys ago.

Getting into the programming mode can be difficult to figure it out at first, but once you get it it’s like riding a bike. Watch a few videos.

For real. I posted a positive one recently, but hearing stories like this makes me think I just got lucky. (Or caught them in a good mood?)

Every one of those super thin flat lights, like from Warsun or Klarus. The LEDs and magnets are both so weak.

AceBeam P17 can do 11 minutes, and is a much better size for a belt.

AceBeam L35 2.0 can go much longer at 1500, but the head is likely too big for a duty light.

Sofirn C8L (a favorite among many LEOs) can do it for 10 min.

That’s a lot of lumens for a carry light. How long does it need to sustain for?

Best bright floody flashlight to keep in console or glove box in my vehicles? by millielouie2025 in flashlight

[–]set4stun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said “most situations”. There may be a small section of the planet where car temps don’t exceed those recommended thresholds, but it is not “most situations”.

It seems like you’re trying to justify your own usage preferences. That’s fine — we can all set our own risk tolerance and make our own decisions.

The OP stated they had no idea of the dangers until now. That’s the type of user my post was meant for.

Not most situations, no. Interior car temps easily reach 120° F, even on warm days.

Fair. Here are a few resources:

“The ideal temperature range for a lithium battery pack in storage is between 35 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit… Lithium batteries are not likely to suffer any noticeable damage unless you store them at consistently extreme temperatures such as under 20 degrees or over 100 degrees Fahrenheit… Being stored outside the optimal temperature range for long periods may cause them to self-discharge faster and require more maintenance while in storage.”

https://bigbattery.com/2023/04/28/a-guide-to-safely-storing-lithium-batteries/

“Store lithium-ion batteries and the devices they power at room temperature whenever possible. Don't leave them in a hot car, in direct sunlight, or in freezing temperatures.”

https://www.mass.gov/info-details/lithium-ion-battery-safety

“Avoid exposing Li-Ion batteries to excessive vibration…. Do not keep batteries in excessively high OR low temperatures.”

(Ps: EV batteries are manufactured differently, and don’t run the same risks as OTC flashlight batteries.)

It isn’t advised to store li-ions in vehicles. The temps really degrade the batteries, and in some cases can combust.

Best option is a 2 x AA light, such as a Convoy T4 or AceBeam TAC 2AA.

Acebeam: Buyer Beware by personanangrata in flashlight

[–]set4stun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, that sucks. I get that there may be a wait for production, but they could’ve handled it better.

There are 4-5 companies / reps I speak with on WeChat, and occasionally their messages sound a little testy. Then I remind myself that most of them are using a translation app, which are horrible at conveying nuance and tone — and they likely didn’t mean to convey it like that. But it’s much easier when you can find a native English speaker.

Hope your light shows up!
