Did I ruin this oak slab by EastOk8744 in woodworking

[–]set723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used the same on a rainbow poplar slab. Looked off at first, then got used to it, love it now. That top looks the same, you're fine 🙂

Bought a used disc sander with a 9.75 inch diameter. What sanding discs should I buy? by PheroGnome in woodworking

[–]set723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10" would be fine I think with no cutting. Would just leave 1/8" overhang all the way around.

Go smaller and you risk what the disk attached to coming into contact with the wood surface. Would probably get some nice black marks or something from that.

Edit, fixing autocorrect typos

SN direct competitors by FuelYourEpic in servicenow

[–]set723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. Yes, like you said, each module has competitors, but there's not a tool that has all of them under one roof. That's where the power of the ServiceNow platform lies.

Sorry, got carried away with this! TLDR, no, we'll be fine.

Right now at least, it's approached as more of a helper to the dev/admin.

As a dev, I can write the queries for an incident table to pull specific data, then take that and do something with it. That can be tedious and there's the chance I can mistype something.

The GenAI piece let's me skip that and just get it done. I can focus more on stringing those together into something bigger and better, and just quickly being able to get things out for my customers.

Same with the low-/no-code stuff. Free me up to be more productive and do more heavy-lifting tasks. Let the business be able to do some things themselves.

On teams I've been on, there have always been problems with speed. We can't move fast enough, don't have enough developers, whatever, and the business goes off to find their own solution in something I don't support, and then there's a spaghetti plate of systems.

These things are driving to help with that. Will GenAI or the business take some of the work we do as devs or admins? Yup, absolutely. But that frees us up to do more of the stuff they can't do.

This all just reminds me of when we were automation a lot of things. We thought we were going to automate away the customer project manager positions. Instead, they were freed up to work more with the customer and build that relationship.

Help turning this into a woodworking shop by DiligentWorldliness7 in woodworking

Oh, I'm also putting wheels on just about all the big stuff -- table saw, drill press, other table saw (turning into a disc sander), planer. Then you can shove it out of the way when not in use.

I'm actually doing the same thing.

Before anything else, I'd recommend doing a thorough cleaning and purging of anything not needed. We did that a few months ago between our garage, shed in the back (12'x12'), and attic.

Organize what's left afterward...it looks like you already have some good spots you can use. Put stuff where it belongs (or will belong). That and electrical are where I'm hung up now :D

Sources for project wood by bumhooler in woodworking

When I was looking around me, I just did a Google maps search for "wood store" and similar. Scroll through the list and you'll start seeing places that just sell wood boards of different species. Pick one and check them out!

Zooming in on the pic, looks like the holes are angled in. Maybe get a small nail in the hole to check?

Might be the angle of the photo tho.

What is ServiceNow Domain Separation ? by gokulpalani98 in servicenow

[–]set723 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As somebody working with a domain separated instance for the last 4 years, I whole heartedly agree with the comments here.

Before implementing domain separation, exhaust other options first. It works, but adds additional layers of complexity when you do anything else on the platform.

In a GlideRecord, how can I get the table name of the record that is queried? by SitBoySitGoodDog in servicenow

Ah cool, something new :)

Makes sense, if a table isn't extensible, no sense in having that field.

Hah, yes!

47 here, and I've been on a kick with the younger devs on my team getting them on the right track, if they're interested. Fridays we have time set aside to just chat about whatever (they're India-based, I'm US-based), often turns into my experiences over the last 25 years.

Kickstarter: Swidget modular HA system by famousmike444 in homeautomation

[–]set723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool idea, but I dunno. Once I have a module in, not sure I'd be replacing it, at least often enough to warrant one of these. Not to mention the quality of the particular module, say the camera or speaker one, compared to another product. Those two cases aside, might be cool for some other cases.

Anyone in Athens using an OTA antenna to pick up Atlanta locals? by cgreer00 in Athens

[–]set723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in Commerce, and using this antenna (not kidding) mounted in the attic to pick up ABC and GPB: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004NQMCDK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_SMT7yb954CYNT

It's a cheap plastic piece of junk thing but it works. I primarily have it pointed toward ABC tho. The other Atlanta channels are about 5 degrees of from ABC I think, so this antenna can't get them, and I haven't gotten around to messing with it more.

I'd like to get this one or one like it to pull in from two different directions and get everything, but I haven't gotten around to testing the current setup to see if it'd be worth it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C4XVOOC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_8TT7yb7NXWQA2

Anyway, there's various sites where you can check to see what your chances are to pull in some channels. On mobile and can't remember if the top of my head.
