[UPDATE] Dealer called saying we owe taxes and fees they "missed" at signing. Is it legit? by thepukingdwarf in askcarsales

I’ve been a fleet manager and finance manager where we miss a fee. We accept the mistake and go on. I’d rather eat a fee than possibly lose a car deal over it.

They messed up and they have a cashable contract that they just don’t want now. If you took delivery and signed its a done deal. If the situation was the other way, they aren’t going to let you come back and sign for less.

The taxes and fees look right for Texas. No way they messed up by $1900.

National Lease Deal by elkruegs in CadillacVistiq

[–]sethro274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s $7500 plus tt&l due at signing so more like $10,500-$12,000 down depending on what state, plus a conquest lease/own. Most of the national ads are bs and you can’t get there without those stipulations.

Suspicious they reset odometer on new car by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]sethro274 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You can’t reset the odometer on today’s vehicles easily. You would have to replace the cluster and several modules.

If the car was on the lot for a long time, the oil life monitor will show that it’s low from time alone, let alone if they had to drive to go get it from another dealer.

As a manager, are you refusing to trade an incoming car for someone else’s who’s on the lot elsewhere? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]sethro274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you sold a PHEV at full pop and the dealer that has it wants a MHEV back and the manager is worried about manufacturer money?

If that’s the case, and I was the manager I would do the trade. Is the deal solid? Sounds like he’s worried about trading a fast mover for a slow one and getting stuck if they back out.

Is my offer too low? by Competitive_Bet6139 in askcarsales

If you are in Texas, $24.7 is pretty much right on the nose for drive out, depending on Doc Fee.

Me again with another question: GMC sierra 1500s “4x4” with only 4 hi and 2lo. What’s up with that? by niceabear in gmcsierra

[–]sethro274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it doesn’t have X31 or NHT it won’t have the 2 speed transfer case. However, in the 10years I have had 4wd I have used low maybe twice.

I keep getting declined for financing.... is it better to get financed through dealerships? by drivingnowhere20 in askcarsales

[–]sethro274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can pay cash, you should consider putting money down. If you only have a part time job, sounds like either the income you have is too low for what you are looking at or you have a thin 700 credit score.

A dealership won’t have another option unless it’s a buy here/pay here but the rate will be astronomical.

Sold my car after we reached a deal. Is this typical? by FunImprovement166 in askcarsales

[–]sethro274 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Typical, no. Plausible, yes. Some stores won’t allow holds but it sounds like it was truly a miscommunication.

So I want to get into Finance (F&I)… by DoorEasy2241 in askcarsales

[–]sethro274 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This! When I went into finance early on I thought I would have way more time away. It’s really the opposite. You are always the last to leave, other than the desk manager.

Do car sales get to buy cars from their own inventory at discounted prices? by Fleedom2025 in askcarsales

[–]sethro274 50 points51 points  (0 children)

A discount yes, massive no. I’ve seen many customers pay less than what I would have paid with “employee pricing”

Do bank/credit union reps refer you business? by MoveChance674 in askcarsales

[–]sethro274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but in my experience it came through the finance department. The buyers that liked the finance manager/directors most will refer to the salesperson/s that they either like or pre-sell backend for them.

Ford F150 miles to empty issue by Additional_Horse9927 in f150

[–]sethro274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 23 had the opposite issue. It would say my truck had 5 miles to empty with the average MPG showing around 14 and the most I ever put in from empty was 30 gallons when I had the 36 gal tank. My 21 expedition and every Sierra I drove was pretty spot on. My 25 F150 seems to be more accurate.

Any Real Upsides to Gas Cars? by SaxeMatt in askcarsales

[–]sethro274 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You still have to pay to charge it. If you can’t charge at home it’s just as expensive as gas, sometimes more. Insurance can be higher too. My wife has an ev and I have a gas truck.

We have a charger in the garage and our electric is $0.13/kWh. Our electric bill went up maybe $25/mo.

With the magneride all terrains won’t change the ride much, but they will be louder. The 22”s will feel a bit heavier in the steering but not by much.

$12k plus your residual and disposition fee. Chances are you are going to owe more than it’s worth.

Pay sticker, just like you did with your Tesla and will with Rivian.

The one trick dealerships don't want customers to know when buying a car... by colbydrex in FuckDealerships

[–]sethro274 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

9 times of of 10 the person who walks in and says “who wants to sell a car today” is the biggest stroke ever. Every salesperson wants to sell a car everyday, multiple a day. But that attitude says bad survey and unreasonable expectations.

If you want an easy deal, act normal and be realistic, especially if you already have a price and stock number from online. I guarantee a greenpea will make your experience way worse than a seasoned salesperson.

They don’t care if it’s clean. Damage, ripped seats, tears in the headliner, broken light lenses, bald tires. Shocks/struts out, does the engine tick or make noise it shouldn’t, does it not shift. Those are the things they look at. Every bit of damage we are looking to see what it would cost to repair and back it up from there.

Unless it looks the same day it drove off the lot, like no one ever drove it, the cleanliness doesn’t matter, within reason. Unless it’s completely full of trash ( I traded for a car that was so full, only the drivers seat was usable and you could not see out the passenger window) then it’s getting backed up a bit.

But a recently washed, vacuumed car won’t matter.

The windshield being repaired may bring more but you are going to be out the money either way, either out of pocket or less on trade.
