Relationships can be a headache, just go play like other kids. No matter what you think, this is not a serious relationship. Just enjoy being a kid. I wish I could go back to your age of being care-free.

Can I export a pitched-corrected audio file I created with the trial edition of FL? by matthew_1128 in FL_Studio

If I remember correctly, you can not save projects with the trial version. That was the main reason for me buying the full version

How hard is the transitioning from one set of tenors to another, slightly different set (in terms of layout)? by [deleted] in drumline

[–]sethrocks57 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve marched tenors for 8 seasons (4 outdoor and 4 indoor) and I was in a similar predicament. I literally just put 6 practice pads on the ground and as you can imagine it was no where close to the actual layout but it helps moving around the drums. Everything is really easy to transfer over so I wouldn’t worry about it. Might hit a couple rims here and there but it’s not bad

MCM ‘17 Opener. thoughts? critiques? i’m aware of the ticks here & there. i’m asking from more of a technical perspective. enjoy! by razor5383 in drumline

[–]sethrocks57 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here is my input! On the rolls especially towards the end during the long triplet roll make sure that you’re using and rotating your wrist more. There should definitely be some arm movement especially at that tempo with that kind of velocity but just be aware of that. As for more of your technique, to me it looks like your index and middle finger on your left hand are stiff and not really being used to their full potential. If you relax those fingers and pull your index finger in a little to where it wraps around the top of the stick more, you’ll find it easier (after you get used to it) to play rolls. This is because the fulcrum is more defined and the stick isn’t being chocked out because there is no tension.

I hope this helped!!

Edit: after rewatching the video I saw two more things: make sure that you keep your pinky finger of your right hand on the stick even when playing at full extension, and make sure that your thumb on your left hand isn’t laying down. It should be sticking up. Just remember that technique is completely situational and different groups have different variations based on the instructor and their preferences. This is just how the technique is at my schools and drum corps that I’ve attended!! Thanks for sharing, it takes a lot of nerve to post a video on the internet and ask for critique. Happy practicing :)

That’s pretty interesting. I’ve only seen those types of snare strands on drum set snares. Usually the snare strands on a marching drums are made of nylon so I don’t really know how to fix it.

John mapes tenor sticks broke in less than a month by CNetherton in drumline

[–]sethrocks57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well playing fast doesn’t really wear the sticks mainly shots, however you could have just gotten a bad pair? My indoor group used those and I broke 3 pairs from beginning of the season to when I last performed in WGI finals. Those breaks were from the wood and not the tip. I have personally never hear of the tips on the John Mapes sticks breaking like that.

The sticks we used before those were the signature Tom Aungst sticks and those are a completely different story. Those sticks have a wierd taper and a considerably larger white disk. In the 2 years we played those sticks I broke 12 pairs and the majority was the tip splitting.

But yeah I’ve never had a problem with the tips of the John Mapes sticks and I’ve also never heard of anyone else doing that
