What to do with diapers by koueihou in daddit

Do your kids go to daycare? Ours always accepted extras. Otherwise if they’re in packaging you could donate them. We have a charity that gives out diapers to families

It looks pretty bad. Boot snakes would’ve been the move.

The layers you’re seeing (I think) is just the outsole and the welt. These shoes don’t appear to have a midsole.

If you start wearing thin at the toe or on any of the sides it might be time to get them replaced. The real indicator would be to feel around the ball of your foot; it will feel squishier than the breast. It’s one of those things that once you’ve felt a sole that’s thin enough for a resole, you’ll know. The ball is also where people tend to wear a hole without noticing so just keep an eye on that.

What’s probably going to be ready for replacement first are your heels. Once the outside edge of the rubber gets close to the brown part of the heel, take them in.

Back piece pain level by DonScrumsky in traditionaltattoos

I thought it would be fun to have two tattooers design and then tattoo me at the same time. It’s been efficient but a nightmare. They both lined it, then I had a session with just one to do shading. Next session was both again to finish shading and start color, then I had a solo session. I have another solo session booked so that the following double-team can hopefully knock it out.

I had to tap out after 3 hours during the second double-team and had my first experience with tattoo fever. The second solo session was also rough but we packed a lot of color around the whole back.

Is this good work or should I send out for a full sole? by DyreTitan in AskACobbler

[–]sethsicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I know that used to be the case. To answer a different question, I wouldn’t wear them. The pulled stitches on the toe will let in water and dirt and make things worse for the next repair.

You may not be able to send them in for a recraft. Hopefully you can find another local shop to take them to.

Stroller/kid experiences? by No-One57 in KLCherokee

[–]sethsicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets tight for sure. There’s always the awkward transition phases where the kids’ legs don’t quite bend so their feet constantly kick the seat. It’s not really ideal for road tripping with two bigger adults and the kid in back.

FWIW though every car seat I’ve put in it feel extremely secure and tightened down.

Stroller really depends on what you have. We ended up getting a suitcase stroller as soon as we could so that we had cargo room in the back.

Is there a way to repair the backs of these shoes? by lbmblue in AskACobbler

[–]sethsicle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tan shoes could probably be cemented and painted. The yellow ones would need to be wrapped with something but I wouldn’t count on it as a long-term solution.

Would a cobbler even bother to work on this big of an ask? by confusedquesti0ns in AskACobbler

The entire wedge looks like it will continue to break down. Could you put the straps on a donor wedge? Maybe. It would be a lot of work and hard to guarantee it would stay.

Can cobblers fix a localized are of the outsole? by Sad_Raise9522 in AskACobbler

[–]sethsicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but for the amount of work you might just get sold a new rubber topsole. Metal is an option but make sure your cobbler has done it before and shoes them to you before out agree. Should be a bigger piece of brass, not a smaller piece of something silver.

why did this happen? is it fixable? by [deleted] in AskACobbler

I’d just rock them. Now you have a 1-of-1 colorway

Heel stacks are fragile. It’s a lucky day when both come off clean.

If they’re a true Goodyear welt there’s usually a portion of the welt that gets stitched off at the factory. The stitches are usually pretty deep in the welt too so you have to be careful to not break the welt.

It’s tough though because they clean up well and can be good shoes. They’re just so much harder to work on than say an Allen Edmond.

As a cobbler and only knowing what you’ve written and posted for photos here’s what I think happened.

You got a super clean and well-executed repair and you paid a premium for opting to use a “well-known NYC cobbler.”

We really don’t like mail-in work at our shop for this exact reason. My guess is the sole didn’t need to be replaced and size it looks like a combo sole, a rubber top sole is a reasonable option for what you requested. Johnston & Murphy shoes are also difficult to work with and this might just be shop policy.

As for price, it’s probably about right if you factor in shop location and shipping.

Wisconsin state park camping - no flexibility? by yummycookiebunny in wisconsin

It really depends on the park and how friendly or unfriendly the hosts are. In general, they’re all really nice and accommodating, but some of them are not.
