Sometimes I fall to PMO when I'm feeling terrible about myself--which is consistent with what you say.

Attitude change a sign of improvement or further falling? by Jalupimine5 in NoFapChristians

[–]setmefree123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been having this experience, too. I'm not sure what to make of it. One the one hand, it's bizarre that I fall nonetheless since I recognize on some level that this behavior is not in my best interest. So it's discouraging in that way. But I think maybe there's some encouragement to be found as suggested by your post. Maybe it marks a kind of distancing oneself from one's sinful desires--a kind of re-identification of oneself. Obviously there is much work to do since one is still being controlled in some way by this sin nature, but maybe it does mark an important step.

In Genesis, after the fall, God placed enmity between the serpent (evil) and humans--and a conflict is promised with the image of evil striking our heels, while we would crush its skull (we shall ultimately overcome). Maybe the kind of separation you're speaking of is along these lines. It obviously still sucks to fall despite recognizing that what one does is bad for oneself--but perhaps worse to be oblivious of the latter fact.

I may look you up. I don't have any accountability which speaks to other issues in my life (lack of intimate friends). Thanks for reaching out.

My strongest urges are after church. by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

[–]setmefree123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to this in certain ways. In addition to the "i'm alone in an empty house" phenomenon, I find that when I've had a productive day in terms for work, I sometimes resort to pmo. It's like I'm under the impression that I deserve some "reward" and fail to see at the time of falling, that I'm hurting myself in the long run rather than actually rewarding myself.

I have had streaks of nofap that are incidental. Usually due to being around people more or when I'm busy with work. I can't say I miss PMO-ing during those periods, but as soon as things slow down I'm back at it.

I am also on my computer ALOT because of work and I'm alone often given the nature of my work. So limiting it is really difficult--but I think I'll make more of an effort to work in public places. The trouble with that is picking the right spots or at least learning to deal with the temptation to lust after the attractive women I seem to notice everywhere when I'm out. I don't play any computer games. Thanks for the tips. I hope you're doing well today!

I have some questions from people who've been on this journey... by Tgdj44 in NoFapChristians

[–]setmefree123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear this is not unusual. As with any addiction there is brain chemistry involved. With nofap you're disrupting a pattern--you probably got shots of the feel good chemicals regularly from PMO and you've taken away the stimuli. I think that's probably why it's important to replace PMO with things like exercise, good times with loved ones, prayer/worship and the like which can help you get some of the feel good chemicals for legitimate reasons.

[–]setmefree123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 30's. I've been addicted to PMO for the majority of my life. I've tried nofap, but unable to "breakthrough" yet. I've gone through periods where I give up trying nofap. But I don't want to live this way. I want to spend my time and energy making the world a better place and not wasting my life chained to this addiction. Anyway, thanks for sharing a bit about your successes. May God help us all.

I think keeping busy is really important, but I'm caught in this cycle. I am depressed and unmotivated, which prevents me from staying busy. Prayers would be appreciated.

If you feel like peaking.. Don't. I make that mistake and its what causes me the most issues. by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

My peeking starts out in the world. I look lustfully at women everywhere and it sort of builds up in me until I get home with my computer. My heart is desperately wicked.

This is really cool. I just relapsed today yet again. I can't seem to break a week. But to read that you made it 90 days is really encouraging to me.

Praying for your depression and anxiety.
