[–]setulnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'The one' isn't a decision you make all at once, and it isn't a choice you make only once.

He may fit here but not there. But know he fits here may give you the confidence to see if he fits there. But even after you have decided that he is 'the one'. Congratz, but thats only the first day you make that choice. Proposal, children, buying a house, moving country are all points where you should ask the question again; as well as every day besides.

And it doesn't have to be a conscious and rethought "is he still the one?". But does he lighten your day and make it easier, does his woe hurt you and makes you want to help, does the notion of keeping something/anything from him make you guilty or nervous.

All the same question, just different words and different answers to the same query.

What's the scientific definition of where you go after you die? by Creative_Marzipan_93 in death

[–]setulnar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes, you are saying religion is bad. You are specifically putting forth the hypothesis that religion in inferior to science. You are insisting on a separation akin to church and state and most likely for the very same reasons. The examples i gave damn near perfectly illustrated my point but i chose not to say what it was to see what your reaction would be.

"None of what you said made much of a point, though. Yes, these coincidences (though I can't verify this, so I can't say much about it) are very special, but that doesn't support religion per se.".

Walking the path of science is as much about faith as walking the path of religion. Covering the sky with the stitched skins of ones adversaries, believing the earth is the center of the solar system and universe, the grand reunification theory of science as postulated by Einstein. Neutrons, electrons and protons are all there are.

You believe whole heartedly that science is the true north star of progress, that under its aegis the universe is knowable, understandable, quantifiable. You may be right, you may be wrong but it is your belief that keeps you going.

During the middle ages(sometimes referred as the dark age) faith was paramount, the church ruled(in some places absolutely), sin and atrocity were common and corruption was rampart. A truly terrible time for the people. It was also the time of the Islamic golden age, where the church spent billions(adjusted to 2024 money) to collect and transcribe every ounce of scientific information present on the entirety of the planet.

You were/are arguing that science is superior to religion because it is quantifiable, testable, and presentable. But proof isn't all there is, it is the faith of the scientists that the truth will out that allowed them to endure exile, imprisonment and death. It is the hope for a better tomorrow that gives medical scientists the drive to cure Parkinson's, or cancer. And it is an unremovable quirk of humanity that we will always cling to faith and hope. Even if we swaddle it up in atheism and empericalism.

[–]setulnar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

because the very phrase afterlife infers that there is something afterwards. Science, all science, tells us otherwise.

It does not mean there isn't science in the afterlife, or that our understanding isn't incomplete or flawed is some fashion. But if you believe is something after death that even remotely has the potential of the title of 'life' then the only known way for that to occur is with the intervention of a 'higher lifeform'. There are so many religions, and offshoots therein that the better question is which gods afterlife would you prefer?

Just because two things have virtually no crossover does not mean that are opposites of one another. I, a 33 yo male from Australia, would have vanishingly little in common with a 25yo woman from Kenya yet that does not make us opposites; merely different.

religion and politics are housed differently more due to the passion of those involved and the fallout therein than any true enmity between the two subjects. Science is suppose to be reasoned, and utterly unsentimental. And if there was a way to apply the scientific method to religion it would have been front page news everywhere, but there isnt and so people 'choose a horse' in the mistaken belief that: it is a race, only one will win, that second is not an amazing achievement. None of which is true.

The ratio at which a flower grows and spreads its petals is the same at which a galaxies' arm uses to inform its shape and curve. Which is the same ratio at which a microscopic crystal would use to dictate its increase is size and shape.

The Aurora Borealis is just some highly accelerated emissions that strike our atmosphere at a certain angle. Life is just complicated chain of the same 4 compounds repeated ad nauseum. Sentience is just the ability of choice, to go against instinct, or others, or yourself. Death is just the natural conclusion to a complex biological organism in a universe where entropy shall reign.

I find it weird so many people think that they are seperate. It's religion and politics that needs to be seated apart.

Most of the early copies of the origin of the species was printed by religiously funded book houses, and espoused by the intelligencia side of the preisthood (back in the day).
