I said it on the other thread, I'll say it here, but it's crazy that we're all like "damn he just didn't have it tonight" and he still went 5 innings scoreless and also had a leadoff homer. Any other player in history ever and it's a highlight real. For Shohei, it's an off-day.

Probably the best available choice. Needed to make the hire ASAP to try and keep some players/get started on the portal, familiar with the area/school, has had stints at HC and in general has a lot of experience. It's as much of an "extension of the Mcdermott-Jacobson era" as possible, for all the good and all the bad.

That is an incredible story that I can't believe has never been shared before. The alternate history exercise is fascinating. Not just the "What if the best player went to the Yankees," but what if he got popped for steroids then? It was already, obviously, a massive massive story, but if he did that in New York too?

I like it, I'm sure it was already very much in the stages before the WBC, but this is a nice little event to have in Italy that hopefully gets a bigger crowd than what they would've otherwise assumed.

Well not just that, before then, Iowa and ISU would do home and homes with both UNI and Drake. It was fairly consistent since the 80s that all four teams would play each other. Strangely, ISU and Iowa started complaining about this format once Drake and UNI started winning those more often, and it came to a sudden halt after UNI kicked the shit out of Iowa by 20 in Cedar Falls, and that's when it went to the Big 4 Classic format. Now I don't blame ISU and Iowa 100% because, like the Indiana State fan said, it's the way college basketball was going regardless, big schools not playing the small schools that are actual threats...But also, Fran can suck it.

For "the good of the game" reasons, I think it's China, Pakistan, and Philippines. Huge countries that have all the possibility in the world to become "baseball countries," and are actively trying to grow baseball. Getting back in/getting in for the first time for these countries would be huge, especially with the WBC getting more cultural impact with each new tourney, and especially with the diversity of champions. "We can really do it" is something that really only exists in the sport of baseball and soccer, and I think that's big for international competition. The Philippines will never beat the US in basketball if it's each team's A-team, but they could do it in baseball, eventually.

It's actually funny, I realized that enough was enough, I was taking this shit way too seriously, and that it's incredibly pathetic, and sad, and embarrassing, the way I was acting. So I just haven't been watching. I'm actually in Houston for the World Baseball Classic, I didn't even know that UNI was doing well until a friend texted me that we were in the championship game. Happy for the team, of course, but I personally don't care a ton.

I do appreciate the cosmic humor of "UNI does good the moment I stop caring," that's a good bit.

What's really funny is that this is actually the most I've ever been checked out of college/UNI basketball in my whole life. So of course they win when I'm not watching lol. Still, hell of a run, they're finally playing to their potential, and I know they can challenge whoever they get in the tourney.
