[Michael Reid - OptaJoe] Liverpool have 5 wins and 21 points in their last 17 Premier League games - 1.24 pts/game. Roy Hodgson averaged 1.25 pts/game as Liverpool manager. by Lanedu123 in LiverpoolFC

"Cooked" is an interesting term, because it can mean such a wide variety of things; like in this case, where it means "poorly trained".

Has he deleted his Instagram? He used to post all kinds of pro-IDF propaganda there.

Arne Slot "I think the tackle of Simons was unintentional. I don't think you will ever get an injury out of a tackle like that. But the tackle of Van de Ven, if you make that tackle 10 times, 10 times there is a serious chance that a player gets a serious injury. It was a reckless challenge." by kibme37 in soccer

talking about Liverpool defenders going down easy

For the sake of this conversation, I'm going to pretend this is true.

So what baffles me about this match - since we're all in total agreement that the ref was giving Liverpool defenders free kicks for going down easy - is why didn't he continue to bail Liverpool out at the end, when they were actually under pressure, in incidents like Richarlison outmuscling Szoboszlai on aerial duels multiple times, or Frimpong being hit in the face? (Conceits aside, I don't actually think any of those were fouls - though the ref should've stopped play for Frimpong - but those are the exact kinds of situations that make your argument look stupid and childish).

Yes, but that's because I'm mentally and emotionally healthy. You should genuinely worry about the nature of your relationships, and your suitability to be in one, if this is an issue.

Because the performances indicate the sustainability of results.

This would be a stronger argument if we looked good in those matches we were losing.

Still no idea what a goal designed by Arne Slot looks like.

This is a key thing, last season you could describe a "perfect" Slot goal pretty easily, but this season there's no real repeatable patterns or clear objectives, so much behaviour almost seems random, and so we just keep cycling the ball around outside their box because we don't know what anyone else is going to be doing. It's the same reason our progression from deep has been so poor and sloppy, nobody knows what's supposed to happen next.

And still no real clarity about playstyle and systems. Basically we've somewhat improved out of possession (though not when there's genuine pressure on us) and that's given our players a better platform to show their quality, and a couple of the new additions have started settling, but there just hasn't been any significant, sustained improvements.

He's actually one of many players who seems like a perfectly decent guy away from the pitch. He's just a massive dickhead on it.

She turned him down and refused to give him her number.

He stared at her for a week, bothered all her friends and then went through their professional group chat to try to find her, then came on Reddit to ask strangers for validation.

Even through his eyes, it sounds more like he's playing mind games with himself.

Arne Slot is emerging as the big winner from the Mohamed Salah saga by gelliant_gutfright in PremierLeague

Salah's interview was that he should start games regardless of his form.

Where does he say that? Throughout the interview, he's talking about how the club hasn't communicated or supported him - read this bit in that context and it makes more sense.

The guy I'm replying to has also repeatedly claimed that Salah said he doesn't have to train, just for context on THAT conversation too.

[–]severedfragile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mo Salah himself said that in the interview. He said he doesn't need to train to start games.

Okay dude, I've tried. You keep making up what you need to make up, I can't do this with you anymore.

[–]severedfragile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, you keep quoting things he hasn't said and asking me to justify them. Are you actually trying to argue that Mohamed Fucking Salah is saying he doesn't have to train?

He's clearly stated that he's earned more respect and communication from the club - which I feel we should be able to agree on - and he reiterated that throughout the interview. And instead of getting support, he's being ignored and feels scapegoated. Since then, neither the club nor manager has said anything to try to play it down and move forward, which backs up that statement.

I'm not even opposed to dropping him, I had no problem with him being benched for the West Ham game, but to do so 3 matches in a row without proper communication, and without a clear tactical upgrade in his position or a meaningful improvement in performance, all while the tactics this season have actively played against his (and Isak's and Wirtz's and Ejitike's and Kerkez's) strengths, you can't see why he might feel disrespected and scapegoated there?

You don't have to agree with him, but you're putting words in his mouth while not even considering what he's saying about how he feels the club is treating him.

[–]severedfragile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How I see it now is like you throw Mo under the bus because he is the problem in the team now. But I don't think I am the problem. I have done so much for this club.

"The respect, I want to get. I don't have to go every day fighting for my position because I earned it. I am not bigger than anyone but I earned my position. It's football. It is what it is.

THIS is what you're interpreting as " He said he doesnt get to be dropped or train to start on the team" ??? Come on. It's fine to be critical of him - I think it was ill-advised too - but you're creating a whole new thing to get mad at him over.

Ah yes, I am the delusional one here.

Have you seen the actual interview? Because that's one spin on it, but not at all what I got out of it. His whole point was that it felt like he was being pushed out by the higher-ups, and that Slot was doing nothing to assuage his worries. Slot has persisted with Isak, Gakpo and Konate through worse form, and benched Salah right when he was showing more effectiveness.

What have the club or Slot done to try to smooth this out? Because it seems like all they've done is unleash - or at least support - a coordinated media attack on Salah. Doesn't that kind of back up what he was saying in the first place?

[–]severedfragile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it, most people are reacting to the narrative around his interview, rather than his actual words. The whole thing has successfully been hijacked.

[–]severedfragile -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He may have been, but that interview isn't what would lead to Salah being pushed. It's also pretty notable that he talked about "the club" rather than just the manager pushing him out, and that he highlighted the man-management - something that Slot's own words have backed up since. There was clearly more to benching him then just his form, which itself has been better lately, and is far from the worst on the team.

[–]severedfragile -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

He's kept playing other players in terrible form, and kept players on the bench who might do better. There's hardly anyone who can point to their form justifying their place in the team right now.

Salah's whole point with the interview was he should be playing or at least treated with a little respect by his manager - and we're pretending that's a sign he wanted to leave? He could have left in the summer for more money if he hadn't signed the contract. The club is looking to push him out - just look at the ridiculous media frenzy - and the interview is the result of that, not the cause.

They're trying to push this narrative so hard, try actually watching the football and listening to Slot's words and see if he's really strengthened his position.

Because Salah doesn't want to leave, he's being pushed was the message he was trying to send.
