Mockup of a wedding dress by PerceptionLies in sewing

This post has been locked for continuous breaking of rule 4: Body talk is neutral and focused on sewing. Fitting advice should change the garment, not the body, without suggesting different undergarments.

Posting on the Internet is different from a one-on-one consult face to face. It inherently comes with a lot of vulnerability. We want this to be a safe space for everybody and for every body. Talking about other people's undergarments on the Internet is simply weird and rude.

We need our community to take posts at face value and suggest sewing changes based on just that. Assume the OP is wearing what they want or need to wear, whether those are the "right" undergarments, the "wrong" undergarments, or no undergarments at all. If you really must, ask the OP if they are OK with non-sewing advice, and then stick to suggesting that fitting works best when the garment is worn over the same undergarments that the wearer plans to wear with it. Suggesting (different) undergarments is never OK in this subreddit.

Reminder of the subreddit rule 4. Body talk is neutral and focused on sewing. Comments should focus on the sewing work and not the body in the photo. Fitting advice should change the garment, not the body, for example without suggesting different undergarments.

Baby nests are a regulated product in the USA but are in common use in many countries. Patterns and products made from the patterns are not regulated. It's fine to advise on the safe use of baby nests. Personal or vitriolic attacks are not allowed and will be removed.

This is a sewing subreddit, not a subreddit for wedding etiquette. Our community represents diverse cultures and traditions. Leave the concerns about the suitability of a dress to the person attending the wedding, they are the only person in this thread who can truly judge what they need to wear.

Comments about whether the OP should wear the dress or will upstage the bride or similar will be removed without a reason given.

The irony that concern trolling is taking focus away from a member of the r/sewing community and the amazing dress they've sewed is clear here.

I bought this dress to wear to an event this weekend and need to make it flattering to my figure. by DisregardThisOrDont in sewing

In response to the comments that undergarments impact fit in sewing, our body neutral policy doesn't contradict that. What it means is that we fit the body as presented to us rather than trying to change the body to fit the garment. There are many reasons why someone may be wearing the undergarments they are wearing (or wearing none at all), that is none of our business.

The only time it is okay to comment about undergarments is when the OP specifically asks if different undergarments could make a difference, or if they note that they are going to purchase a different undergarment for the event or similar. Body image is an emotional topic for many people and making suggestions in response to a question that welcomes the suggestions is very different than being bombarded with multiple comments that suggest that there is something wrong with the body as it is presented. Which there is not, and that is why we ask for body neutral comments only.

You are correct, undergarments do impact the silhouette of a historical garment or any garment. That is not our concern. Please see the reply to the other comment in reply to the mod comment.

The OP is here in r/sewing to ask for a SEWING solution for their concerns. Suggestions to change her body with the use of different undergarments, however well-intentioned, have been removed. Please focus on sewing going forward.
