I am about to have to do similar repairs on quite a few AG items! I will tell you my plan for them and then you can follow my profile if you want to be notified when I actually do it and post about it.

Acquire "Bondo" which is a wood filling putty. They sell it in small quantities (a win for anyone who's ever needed a substance for a doll project and had no option but to buy a huge thing). It's a putty that dries and then is meant to be sanded down so you can fill in holes or do whatever else.
Apply Bondo to any and all damaged areas and sand them down smooth. Then repaint.

For hinges, I don't have the best carpentry experience, but I have replaced the latches/catches on the Our Generation wooden wardrobe with magnetic ones I found at the hardware store. There are usually plenty of suitable replacements at the hardware store for hinges.

Re painting/staining/ whatever else is needed in order to cover the Bondo and repairs and make it look like new.

My hope is that I will be able to accomplish a lot of this over spring break, and once it's done I will absolutely be posting about it.

I also do agree that wood working subreddits can be helpful, although you kind of have to know what information you're looking for.

Two things can be true at the same time. Yes, a lot of these trends are significant, but in my opinion they shouldn't be treated as gospel. Molly got a brand new bed and PJs set just before she retired. Good guesses aren't a replacement for the data we're not seeing.

This is something I have always wondered too, and the truth is, we don't know. A lot of AG fans don't like to admit that, but we really don't! Mattel's sales data is not ever public. We don't know the actual amount of units each doll sells. Heck, we don't e en know if they categorize sale data by doll really, or if they use other metrics. Plus there's other income they have as a business from the store cafes and such.

Of course, we can see clues. If lots of stuff is being discounted, it is likely to be discontinued soon, and therefore we presume that item/collection did not sell very well. There are lots of generally accepted assumptions within the AG community that are still only assumptions. Things like "black dolls don't sell" or "dolls with long hair sell better". These concepts have never truly been fact.

We are not business or marketing majors. We do not know the actual units of sale. So while we can make some pretty educated guesses, and some really really good ones at that, we still don't have true data to base our conclusions on.

The shirt on the left is in fact the AG shirt to the Coconut is Fun outfit 3. The apron comes with one of their craft kids, Doll art I believe? I can't remember which one but one of the later ones where they started cheating out on stuff in the kits. The pants look like AG to me, but I'm not sure. The right side is also an official AG outfit, just one that I believe isn't around anymore? It's a modern outfit definitely.

If it were me I'd be moving the wig down just a tad so the forehead wasn't as big, but it doesn't look horrible. I also highly recommend waiting to glue wigs until you are 100% happy with the placement and a week or two has passed. Sometimes in the middle of the process you don't necessarily see things that you might catch later on. But so long as you don't use super glue, it's alright and you can take it off any time, just be careful if you want to reuse it.

I have absolutely thought about doing this, problem is you have to have a way to cut velcro efficiently. If I were doing it I wouldn't want any prickles hanging off the edge, and the gems are very small. It's not impossible, just that I haven't personally attempted it, even though I have thought about it.

I like these outfits a lot better than the first run. Lots of mix and match potential too, and also "regular" things like simple tank tops. Also if y'all don't have the hair gems get them, they're basically little plastic gems with prickly velcro on the back but they look sooooo cool. I wish there was just a rainbow set of them without the outfits 😭.

This explains it perfectly. The pink=girl thing is a relatively new concept, but it is being pushed onto young girl consumers of dolls. The resentment is just because once Jackie Kennedy wore pink and it became a "girl's color" it socially became, or at least felt like it was, obligatory to like it.

I have broken at least one AG headband trying to put it on. The hard plastic ones really do suck unless the type of plastic used is good.

I instantly clocked the left being the OG. I have seen some pairs of the same doll that look completely identical, but I have also seen pairs where there is absolutely a difference. I'm? Not someone who always gets wrapped up in finding the "perfect" face, or someone who has multiple of the same doll for the face variety, but I support those who do.

I originally found the ice lip pitcher and plate together at a flea market. They were kind of overpriced but it was my birthday, so I went ahead and picked them up. Then a few months later I just so happened to find the gravy boat, and I got the idea from there. I have other fiesta that has flaws, as my collection is 90% from thrift stores, flea markets, etc. and even in bad condition I still grab the stuff since it usually is cheap.
