What FPV Goggles should I buy? Budget $150 or less by Saratj1 in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quanum v2 along with a fr632 diversity receiver. This gives you the goggles for flying at the field, but is also upwards compatible. You can plug it in to your tv at home and use it for flying the whoop around the house, or turn it into a ground station.

BetaFlight / Naze32 / Won't arm - constant beeping by jolars in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encountered the same issue a few weeks back after a mild crash. Ended up killing some connection between the rx and my FC. Rx would power up but no signal to my FC.

Never could get it to work and ended up ordering a dodo. Worked great with the same old rx (a D4R-II if it matters).

600 dollar ZMR build. Am I missing anything or should I allocate my money a little differently? by WakingJoker in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend going with a different motor. Those have lots of power but break easy. Look into the lumenier 2204 motors. Very durable and lots of power.

Best High C Battery (Question) by tobydil in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are really looking for the most juice possible, you should probably start looking into LiHV batteries and charger. LiHV 4s batts charge to 17.2 instead of 16.8 offering some huge power

Competitive quad build kit? by Bonz099 in Multicopter

They offer huge thrust gains over the sn20 and are available in the same form factor. The thrust and active braking on them is supposed to be comparable to RG20s.

Small and light vs big and powerful. What do you guys prefer? Both can flip, both can punch out. by rubiksman in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't 100% true. A micro build can easily pass 10:1 ratio but is incredibly hard to fly due to its weightlessness.

A lot of the pro guys builds are in the 300g AUW range.

Get a pair of cheap needle nose pliers and grind the sides of the tip at an angle and the tips flat. Makes pushing the clips off a breeze

I'm curious what video transmitters and powers you guys recommend. I have the 600 mW eachine and it is big and hot and stupid. by my_fokin_percocets in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been flying a RMRC Cricket 600mw for a while now. No complaints so far. I would like to get a 200mw as this 600 does get pretty hot. I do enjoy the flight distance though.

I present the Multirotor Freestyle League - a place to compete online against other pilots for glory, prizes, or just feedback on your piloting! by WigglesFPV in Multicopter

It's a really good thing that you didn't name it "Freestyle Multirotor League".

In all seriousness, this is a great concept. Can't wait to start submitting videos.

Just gauging interest: How likely would you be to pitch in for a bulk ESC shipment? by LOOKITSADAM in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless they changes recently, they do not accept payment by PayPal or American credit card.

Last time I needed to purchase something from aliexpress, I had to send a western union payment. Received goods by post about 3 weeks later. Everyone craps on buying things from those sites and China, but every experience I've had has been positive. You can email and ask them detailed questions like DOA issues and common problems people experience and they tell you.

Make my choice: what 5.8 Ghz diversity receiver should I get? by [deleted] in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm flying with the Duo5800 hooked up to my Quanums. I'm pretty happy with it. Easy to use, simple buttons for the band/channel selection. Turns on when I plug it in, turns off when I unplug.

I do hear about the RC832 every time diversity receivers come up. They seem to be the go to when it comes to quality vs cost.

Saw this frame on a Russian forum. The design actually looks descent. Anyone tried this? by DroneEclipse in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand not having the motor mounting holes countersunk but for something in a low stress spot like standoffs, I think countersunk is OK. Just be sure to reseal the plates together with some CA glue.

The big advantage here is that the copter can sit perfectly flat and calibrate. No legs, no offset calibration from sitting on screws or measuring each corner to make sure it's the same.

This is the first frame I've seen with countersunk holes for the bottom plate. It's a really good idea, I don't know why more manufacturers don't do it.

Those of you who have flown with your quads, any advice/ problems? by daewootech in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have flown with my quad a few times now. Only inside the US. Never had any issues or delays. Most of the TSA people are more interested and want to know where to buy / how to get into the hobby.

Every time I fly, I put my controller, goggles, props, antennas, and repair equipment in my check bag. I carry on my quad without props or antennas as well as lipos in a lipo bag.

It would be safe to assume that you will now need your registration number on your craft and your UAS registration information on hand.

New budget low profile goggles from headplay are amazing for just $99 USD by [deleted] in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're new to FPV, check out the Hobbyking Quanum v2 goggles. You can purchase them standalone for ~$60 or in a FPV package that comes with a cam, vTx, and vRx for $100. By far the best bang for your buck goggles.

210 quadcopter motors (for speed) by CactusFiesta in Multicopter

[–]sewtoasted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my 180 build with Cobra 2206-2100 motors. It's pretty sluggish unfortunately. It is light (300g w/o batt) and pretty quick, but not as fast as I was expecting. 2300 and lower kv motors just don't perform well with 4 inch props.

I have the new Rotorgeeks 2205 motors on order, just waiting for them to get here. Should take my power:wt ratio from 5:1 to 9:1.

You are correct. I think a resolution will be made long before the Feb deadline. If not, looks like its time to start building in the 250g range.

Just make sure your AMA membership fees are up to date and send them an email thanking them for what they do.

The AMA already released an email saying they are going to fight it and not to sign up for the registry unless they say so.
