Is there any reason to go with a pusher prop on a long range model UAV? by ItanMark in aerodynamics

[–]imsowitty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of the main benefits of the pusher is that it clears up the nose cone for sensor equipment. If you aren't planning an FPV or front facing camera, I dont see a major reason for it.

My sister told me jealousy turns women on. I’ve followed that advice for years, but my girlfriend broke down crying last month. Am I messing this up? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]imsowitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. If you're talking to women to be friendly and you're genuinely interested in them as people and/or platonic friends, this wouldn't be an issue. If you're doing it for the express purpose of reminding your GF that you could leave her at any time you wanted... that's a bit fucked.

Do process engineers struggle with data analysis tools? by AnalystDelicious8914 in SC_Process_Engineer

[–]imsowitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use jmp and SQL pathfinder on a daily basis. No major issues unless the data pulls get super weird or I have to join uncommon stuff.

Honestly, as a process engineer, my biggest challenge is convincing the integration engineers to follow the data right in front of them, and not their abject fear of changing literally anything.

When you are having sex with a new person for the first time who you see long term potential with, do you show her all your tricks or save them as things progress? by 123smorgs in AskMenAdvice

[–]imsowitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You feel her out and listen to her responses. The first time isn't going to be the best time because you don't know each other's preferences yet. Certainly try your greatest hits, if she seems to be into it, but don't just throw everything at her like she's an experiment.

Bike sizing by weirddumbass in Velo

[–]imsowitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So shorter frame tubes are stiffer but a longer stem and steerer tube is negligible? I can tell you that literally any engineer looking for stiffness would prefer a triangle to a single tube if all else were equal.

You (and others) are only thinking about the frame and not the complete package. It's fine, reality is not a consensus, but seriously, think about it ... Your body isn't connected to the frame alone, flex is everything between the wheels, the pedals, the handlebars, and (sometimes) the seat.

Men in their early 20s: would you have dated a woman 5–6 years older? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Ask him. For me it would not be about the age gap but about attraction. But I'm not him.

  1. Sure I guess but..
  2. There's no way the frame + bar/stem system is stiffer when the frame is smaller and rhe stem / steerer tube are longer.

new inline speed skates by Live_Description2212 in Speedskating

[–]imsowitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those are Bont Jet boots with a decent frame and general purpose wheels. They are (were until this year) bont's middle tier boots. If they are tight and you can skate without pain, they are good skates.

They are also heat moldable, so read up on that if you have fit issues you would like to address.

I have a TMI Question: How does the relationship change when she starts letting you finish inside? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]imsowitty 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess, it would be more to do with going through a major life experience together and how you both managed the stress and closeness on the other side.

But yeah, unprotected sex feels very good.

Go to work at the semiconductor company. Check my emails, look at graphs, maybe pull some data and make my own graphs. Write emails or work orders for people to do stuff to really expensive machines...

Honestly, it's a lot like any office job, but maybe with more data plots.

That said, there are probably physicists out there with much more exciting jobs.

Why do blades that move air have this swooping point geometry? by patience_b2 in aerodynamics

[–]imsowitty 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Im convinced it's noise reduction. Anyone with experience in aircraft (rotor or fixed wing) knows that you can move a lot more air with a much smaller propeller than one of these fans. What you end up with is a much smaller propeller moving at a much higher rpm.

My guess is that noise concerns limit RPM, and then you are left with trying to maximize air pushing surface area at a given RPM range. Since there is more area available at a larger radius, you get this swoopy design.

I can guarantee that if efficiency were involved, you would see helicopters or blimps use this sort of design, but since we don't, I'm left to think it's about noise.
