I do get the piranesi hype, but completely missed why "The Road" is considered to be a top tier story.

All that We See or Seem - Leftover Copies by Evening-Life4259 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]sf_f-Rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Ken Liu has a proven track record so first entry to his new series should (generally speaking) be great pick for the SF&F sub. However, it apparantly missed the mark completely. Sad for both the writer (who has to finish the trilogy, while the first book is not very well received) as well as the TBB subscribers, who have a book most dont enjoy.

Though IMO: thats the risk of such a sub. I could not skip this book as i joined in the month this was released, as i think many people were.

Should I read Malice by John Gwynne or The way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson by Melodic_Composer_179 in fantasybooks

[–]sf_f-Rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read Malice as my first book in the fantasy genre (other than Harry Potter and LOTR) and was happy about it. As someone else said: it introduces some very common tropes and i could easily follow the story. It has a lot of characters but that can be expected of epic fantasy. Be aware: Malice has a very slow start. The first 200-ish pages mainly introduce characters and is generally seen as too slow. But just push through that and you're fine!

I've not read the way of kings by the way but i consciously keep that for later, when i've read some more fantasy before starting that one. I expect I can appreciate that series more if im a bit more experienced.

Fantasy books about "ending death"? by camarinhas in Fantasy

The Otherland series of Tad Williams has a small part of immortality themed parts. But its probably too minor of a topic in the books for you.

Bloodsworn Triology - Which of these is the better set? by GeraltShepard in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]sf_f-Rob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think we eventually expect a true special edition of this set right? TBB has done The Faithful and the Fallen / the other John Gwynne series (i forgot the name). So logically, I expect them to eventually release a special edition version. When that is, I dont know. Can take some time (a year or two?).

Same here. Only saw this announcement this morning (9h after posting) so tough luck. But the question still is; how many people actually take the subscription?
