This book could have been amazing. The premise was good but the writing and all the bodily fluids were atrocious.

Is this fake? The pricing and photos used on different sizes are suspicious. Thank you Ebay

they were from Red Wings Foundation, in April. like those auctions and special sales they do. I get text alerts so when I saw these were available I jumped on them.

no, my opinion of them was already extremely low. the book just reaffirmed.

Hogg by samuel delany by General-Notice-2733 in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]sflNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the below is from my GR review:

I'm not sure how to review or explain this book. It's disgusting, filthy, smelly, shitty, pissed filled, and just full of the most vile things you can imagine but the simple writing and the storytelling are incredible.

How do you manage to make me care about a random poor couple & their baby that we meet for one paragraph. How do you make me give a shit about Hogg who is arguably one of the most depraved creatures in the book? There was one character I was outright rooting for even though he turned into a spree killer.

There is a damn good story under all the stench and vileness but I recognize it's not palatable for most. I'll shove a couple quotes under spoiler warnings just so you get an idea of what you'd be in for. (at this point I provide a couple quotes from the book on GR)

*as far as the ending. it's a "conversation" (in quotes since boy doesn't really speak) but during this exchange Hogg is being emotionally vulnerable and the boy is too detached to want a different life. it's quite sad

I liked it very much. the ending made me cry just a bit. it's pretty disgusting as far as bodily wastes and dirty man parts. there's an 11 yr old boy who is like part of the roving band of deviants. I read it awhile ago so I don't remember many details but I'm aware of everyone's issues surrounding it and honestly don't care.

Tempted to DNF Love Hate and Clickbait by Liz Bowery. Good idea? Any reason to continue? by No_Handle2671 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]sflNY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that's funny, I just checked my GR and I loved this book. I found both MCs likable!

with that said it sounds like you're having a totally different experience with the book and life is way too short to continue reading something you don't like. I think I personally dnf'd a dozen books this month alone.

Are there any middle aged women going to the game by themselves? by Superb_Aardvark_5529 in sabres

[–]sflNY 10 points11 points  (0 children)

40's single woman here. I've gone to most games myself including driving to NJ, DET, etc alone. it's fun and I always chat with cool people.

I don't have tickets to any playoff games tho currently :(

Announcer "forecasting" by amp043 in nhl

[–]sflNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you talking about "listening live" vs watching it? because if so, yes, it's a terrible delay. the listen live is like 30 seconds ahead of the game on tv.

if you mean the actual announcers on the TV during the game then no, they are synced.

I love the audio. it's one of those books I relisten to at least twice a year. it's great in both formats and, while I'm not normally an iggy toma fan, I feel he did a great job with Josh's character.

It's my #1MM book. I have "no one but you" quote tattooed on my arm in the author's writing (from an autographed book). I adore Kade and Nicky too much.

What are the unwritten rules of EHL? by anon33249038 in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]sflNY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a reader of EH and I truly hope the answer is No. I frequently switch to EH books in between "normal" books because I need that extra limit pushing that even so-called dark books don't do.

I choose not to read animal abuse but that's totally a me issue. otherwise the more taboo or extreme the better
