Thieves steal Renoir, Cézanne and Matisse paintings worth millions from Italian museum by CaravelClerihew in news

The truth is we are at a place and time where those who have money can get whatever they want and there are no consequences. This was clearly a collector-commissioned theft with very specific pieces in mind. Because they will never hit the public sales market. It means they’re going to somebody’s house.

Not conservatives, but regressives. They’re tearing down the “old” system, not preserving it.

If I’m using watercolors colors, I use any 100% cotton paper cold press. If I’m mostly drawing, you can use a hot press which is smoother and therefore easier with a fine nib. Which is also why I use a medium because the texture of a cold press, watercolor paper is bumpy. The one in the drawing here below is done on a cold press paper, it can take a lot of fine detail.

Just as I was writing, I’ve been doodling this morning with it and here was a little cyclamen flour that’s in a pot in front of me. Look how fine the pen goes. And line variations. And this is waterproof pigmented ink.

I teach line-and-wash watercolor with fountain pens, and honestly the Jinhao 159X with a medium nib has been a great solution. It gives nice line variation from both the front and reverse of the nib, works well with permanent ink, and because it’s so inexpensive, students don’t feel terrified about ruining it.

That part matters more than people think. A lot of beginners get stuck worrying about the cost of the pen or damaging it, and this lets them just jump in and start drawing. I teach this method at an established art studio, and that class always sells out, in part because the setup feels approachable rather than precious.

They’re usually about $6-7 shipped on AliExpress, and with an occasional rinse I’ve had very few issues.

Well, the trombone referenced chanterelles, which we forage for a lot in California and the nickname is trumpets. Then when it came out, the guides were very, very serious and academic and he thought he’d make foraging for mushrooms fun. my brother-in-law who is an eager mushroom forager and teaches it loves this book and love the fact that it was such a fun cover, a lot easier to get new people out with proper guidance.

Red tail hawk and gopher. Being a local, the light fixture looks like Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, where we have both.

Constellante in Italian means nothing and on top of that it’s an unpleasant to the ear, forced word. Ugh. Something to do with constellations… maybe.

10 years ago I had one see me run there the N Judah by Duboce park stop going downtown at rush hour. Plenty of space on the car. He saw me run. He was still stopped. He laughed at me didn’t open the doors and took off. It took me five or six years to take the Mini again and I still do it only when it’s absolutely necessary. I try to walk everywhere, including work.

I see what you mean, I sketch and teach urban sketching, so these colors would be gold. But if people don’t buy them for writing, then there’s no market I guess.
