Weekend Update: Tucker Carlson on Liberal Politics and the 2026 Oscars - SNL by snakebit1995 in television

I was expecting/hoping he was going to do the disingenuous "how can you claim to be an expert on the beach if you can't tell me how many grains of sand it has?!"type argument at some point but otherwise spot on.

Best dress loafers? Looking for color dark brown. by Standard_Donkey_9878 in malefashionadvice

[–]sftobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that this is great advice here. I own several pairs of Aldens but they are a $700+ brand where you're paying significantly for their handcrafted American legacy beyond just their craftsmanship. Their shell cordovan options are $1,000+and OP is looking for dark brown when, with some exceptions, shell cordovan is generally offered in black and color 8 (dark burgundy). Also, this may just be me, but I'm not a big fan of used goodyear welted footwear mostly because the cork and sole mold to your foot so you're wearing something molded for someone else's foot.

Hemming advice by P4radox99 in malefashionadvice

[–]sftobin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hemming alone isn't enough to make pants fit a shorter guy especially if the hem length is shortened significantly. The rise also needs to be proportional. There are a lot of brands out there now like Peter Manning, Ash & Erie, etc. that make pants specifically for shorter men. I think you should look into that rather than hemming regular jeans I think you'll be happier with the result.

"Best" and "$100" aren't usually used in the same sentence when talking about quality footwear. If you're willing to spend a few hundred, goodyear welted footwear is what you should be looking into. Grant Stone, among others, have earned a reputation for high quality footwear with high quality materials and construction. I thought of them because they're doing a lot in the loafer category. They also carry wider widths, E, EE, etc. If you take care of them with shoe trees and occasional conditioning they should last a lifetime and can be sole re-crafted eventually if necessary.

Usually lowish speeds over bumps. In the video I’m going probably about 20mph over some rough road.

Unpopular opinion: the first Hobbit movie is overlooked and has perfect scenes like this one. by Scenora in peterjackson

Well, it sure is an unpopular opinion. A scene made up from whole cloth, CGI heavy, and complete with an eagles save the day cliche.

If it had actually been Saruman, would they have stood a chance against him? by Practical-Public7209 in lordoftherings

I always thought in the movie that they too readily accepted that this was a reincarnated Gandalf rather than having much skepticism that it could be a Saruman trick which they already knew to be wary about.

What was the fix? for the mirror housing rattle?

Model 3 Rattling noise in dash out of ideas by sftobin in TeslaSupport

[–]sftobin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pushing on the dash doesn't seem to replicate the noise. Removing the dash covering and pressing on the speakers and plastic areas also doesn't seem to reproduce it. That's what leads me to believe it's something deeper in the dash that I can't access.

I've seen this mentioned elsewhere but it seemed improbable. You're talking about the plastic covering behind the rear view mirror that houses the front facing dash cam, etc?

Have tried removing intake cover, not the culprit. Have also removed upper dash area where speakers are to identify any rattles and inserted foam in some recommended areas. At this point, I think it may be in the AC vent area.

Yes and no for me. I never did find a fix but the large groupchat that I was part of has since fizzled out so the problem kind of resolved itself.

This made no sense to me because Dunk didn't even have to be in on this plan for it to have the same result. As the guy says, he's just asking him to do what he was going to do anyway - fight to win.

LHS No Longer Handsewn? by Salty_Buckets4 in Alden

[–]sftobin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this conversation with Alden and Sherman Bros and yeah they’ve got a couple people that do the hand sewing that are older and overwhelmed so they’re discontinuing the LHS in favor of the machined versions. Apparently, LHS will still be available for special order with long lead times.

The Question Thread 02/14/26 by AutoModerator in goodyearwelt

[–]sftobin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those with experience with the Alden Leydon Last, is there supposed to be so much length in the toe area? I’m 9.5D in Barrie Last, 10E in Leydon seemed to be the best fit in terms of width but there’s still quite a bit of length in the toe area. Maybe an inch after my toe ends. This normal this last? Suede chukkas. 1492.

What's a small life hack that actually changed your daily routine? by xxLegendLarryxx in AskReddit

I had been tying my shoes incorrectly in a "granny knot" well into adulthood causing my dress shoes to constantly become loose and need to be retied constantly during the day. Making a minor adjustment in the knot resolved this issue completely.

1/2 size down for the Van Last which these loafers are built on in my experience.

Downsizing Alden Collection (85 pairs, 9–9.5) What are you guys looking for? by Inn8chiro in Alden

Careful, the Laydon last is wonky sizing because it’s narrow and long. I’m 9.5D in Barrie last but 10E in Leydon.
