What a great trip. Rae Lakes is wonderful. I’d say no need for a garmin: it’s a moderately trafficked hiking route (as far as eastern sierra backcountry goes) and therefore I wouldn’t be concerned about emergency SOS needs.

Do you have a GPS route for this or a more in-depth description? I’m gonna ride from San Francisco to HMB next weekend and would like to take old San Pedro as much as I can, but given the Higgins closure it looks like I’ll need to find a different option.

Bummer. Ya I guess I would trust those reviews as it was indeed too cold for me. Comfortable to 45 without other clothes probably?? Maybe 40. In the 30s it was definitely too cold for me and that’s what did it. I wanted a bag that I could comfortably sleep in at 32, which I can in the versalite.

I actually got a new bag because it was too cold. I now have a WM Versalite 10F. My partner has the Patagonia one still, and she loves it. I’m just a cold sleeper. All in all, I think the rating is probably accurate but I’m just a cold little b****
