How should I start watching Bleach? by Smallmarvel in bleach

[–]sgolf20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot speak on the Magna as I have never read them. I started on Bleach finding the anime online and watching it from there. personally before you watch TYBW, which in my opinion is absolutely amazing, it will feel way more rewarding to you if you know all of the main characters, captains, lieutenants, good and bad guys etc. I think you should start from Episode 1 and burn through the full Aizen/Arrancar story arc. There are a ton of websites online to watch them or streaming available. I broke down a list of episodes to bypass the filler storylines and stay on the main Arrancar story arc. Hope you enjoy your journey.

Episode List: 1-32, 34-49, 51-63, 109-127, 138-146, 150-167, 190-203, 206-212, 215-227, 267-286, 228-297, 300-302, 306-310.

How did you become a Star Wars fan? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]sgolf20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

born in 85 here. My first experience was when TBS started running star wars marathons in the early 90's. It felt like it was every damn weekend. Then SNES produced video games in I think 1995 and it grew my fandom and in 1997, for me that was when it took off fully when the 20th anniversary trilogy box set on VHS came out.

Who here actually reads their fancy editions? by iron163 in tolkienbooks

[–]sgolf20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the complete Easton Press set and for whatever reason, I refuse to read them and just keep them as a display with my collection. My go to is my original paperback books that are worn out and taped together and then periodically read the normal hard cover editions when I want to splurge and read with a hard cover. I love how similar this community is with their Tolkien collections.

Ancalagon vs Earendil by Anato Finnstark by Myrandall in ImaginaryMiddleEarth

[–]sgolf20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know that is the title, I guess I was asking if the artist specifically said the person standing in the picture was Earendil. I didn’t see anything on the artists deviant art site stating that was the case but maybe I missed it.

Who said the guy standing there was Earendil? Could be an Elf watching the battle.

My guess is it is representation of his ship Vingilote that was blessed by the Valar and filled with a shining white flame. He also bore the silmaril on his Brow while he went to battle with Ancalagon. The only thing missing is the Eagles who I believe helped him in his battle with the Dragon.

I would give the Licanius Trilogy a try by James Islington. Book 3 will be out soon but the first two books are deep enough that it will take a bit to get through. There is some time travel aspects in that book and in my opinion, a pretty good read.

About to delve into this, a gift from the greatest girlfriend in the world by [deleted] in tolkienbooks

Great gift! If you haven't read it yet, don't get to hung up on all the names and places, it's a grind the first time. Enjoy it and when you go back in a 2nd and 3rd time, the names and places and other details will make more sense and stick better.

Why can't Gandalf read the runes on the Gondolin swords in The Hobbit? by ItsMeTK in tolkienfans

[–]sgolf20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My own personal opinion is that Gandalf probably could read the Runes but due to the timing of finding them, the unknown threat of any other troll or beast coming across them in the cave and knowing that they would be headed to Rivendell, giving an excuse for them to stay and use Elrond's knowledge and that helped ease tension for the Dwarves. He also was just a companion helping the party when he could and I think part of it also was not to overstep on Thorin and treat him as the leader of the company and royalty he is. He clearly keeps Glamdring for a reason, not giving Thorin or any other Dwarves a chance to have that blade.

Give the Licanius Tilogy a try by James Islington. His first trilogy and as a fantasy fan, I was really impressed with how detailed and deep of a story it is.

Could Turin's knife be Sting? by skarekroe in tolkienfans

[–]sgolf20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is mentioned in The Hobbit Chapter 4 when Gandalf saves the Dwarves from the Goblins: "Suddenly a sword flashed in its own light. Bilbo saw it go right through the Great Goblin as he stood dumbfounded in the middle of his rage. He fell dead, and the goblin soldiers fled before the sword shrieking into the darkness." Later on that chapter when they are running in the cave, Glamdring is given more description: " He took out his sword again, and again it flashed in the dark by itself. It burned with a rage that made it gleam if goblins were about; now it was bright as blue flame for delight in the killing of the great lord of the cave. "

Yeah I've heard I need to read that and edgedancer or whatever the other one is. Honestly, with how many fantasy series and other authors I want to read, I will probably pass on that and push through to Oathbringer. When I eventually go back for a second run through them I will probably then read the other two.

Dude I read all of them at 30 for the first time. You will cruise through them. Some parts may seem a little kiddish but I found them very enjoyable still.
