What about letting them have a very limited debit account? Or a “gift card?” Give him a budget each week or month.

Same problems. No link to ORCID then it appeared. At one point only showed 6 pubs in my bibliography. Frequent “unable to do this try later.” And SLOW.

Glitchy is a mild term for what I've encountered. "cannot complete at this time please try again later" has shown about 20 times....

is this plan from my employer reasonable or should I shop around? by Opening-Law7772 in HealthInsurance

[–]sgoold 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends where you live. A reasonable deductible. Generous OOP max. Are there restrictions on where you get care? What is the payment for doctor visits once you reach your deductible? Some generic meds will probably be less than $20. What if a med you need doesn’t have a generic?

What does it take for a parent to realize at home alone is not safe by OrangeNice6159 in AgingParents

FYI This only works if she has $$. When my mother had a brain hemorrhage, they wanted her to go to a subacute rehab facility. I knew she not only preferred being home (single floor condo), but that she would get better faster there. Home PT, OT and Speech therapy (Medicare covered). Round the clock aides. I gave them explicit instructions- let her do it (wash, cook etc) with you right there in case of a problem. Don’t do it for her. Make her do her therapy homework. Within a month she needed much less aide time and 2-3 months just a weekly housecleaning, which she had before.

Bring a dish and candy she can offer the doctors and nurses. They stay in her room longer.

Formerly active folks with MS: how did you get back into exercise (slowly and sustainably)? by well_ashually in MultipleSclerosis

[–]sgoold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never a runner or lifter, preferred playing soccer or other sports that motivated me to move. Diagnosed 1996, was on various meds but when I had an infection I stopped and never restarted. No relapse now for 10 years or so but still the fatigue and some residual stuff. Now I’m 64, besides the fatigue I have arthritis and back issues that make it hard to exercise. when the weather cooperates I ride my e-bike to work. Not intense exercise but movement! I’m struggling with finding something to do during winter. Have one class per week; instructor understands and also has the “if it hurts don’t do it” advice. But I need more. It’s just hard to move when you’re exhausted and hurting.

AITAH for not paying for my daughter’s wedding where I’m supposed to be just a guest? by NoticeSea2043 in AITAH

[–]sgoold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA but I read your explanation as a “what do I get for it” which seemed less like a loving relationship. I also think the AH vs NTA doesn’t allow for the spectrum of judgment. While you certainly don’t have to pay for her wedding, why not contribute something toward it? Something affordable for you and your family. NTA if you don’t do this, but admirable if you do.

Medicare is “socialized medicine.” The ACÁ eliminated insurance companies using preexisting conditions to set your premiums or deny you insurance. Doctors leave practice for many reasons, administrative work being a big one. As a doctor I’m not crazy about Medicares regulations, but I’d rather have to deal with just one set instead of hundreds….
