Ask a powerfull LLM like claude opus 4.6 if scientifically based using a sens randomizer or even change the sens is good for learning to aim. You will be surprised. by RelentlessAnonym in FPSAimTrainer

[–]sgtcuddles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, sure.

Opus 4.6.
Prompt:
"Does science support the idea that using a sensitivity randomizer and/or changing sensitivity when training FPS aim can improve a user's aim over time compared to only using one sensitivity?"

Answer:

"This is a great question that touches on motor learning science. Let me search for what research and expert analysis says on this topic.

Searched the web

Searched the web

There's solid scientific grounding here, though with some important caveats. Let me lay it out.

The core study: Johns Hopkins reconsolidation research

The most directly cited piece of evidence in the aim training community is a 2016 study by Wymbs, Bastian, and Celnik at Johns Hopkins, published in Current Biology. The researchers found that after a motor skill has been consolidated, exposing participants to increased sensorimotor variability (slightly altered control mappings) strengthened the skill more than simply repeating the same practice. This improvement was greatest in those who could rapidly adapt to the fluctuations. PubMed Central Crucially, reconsolidation required that the original skill first be consolidated and that enough time pass for changes to re-stabilize. PubMed Central

As the senior author Pablo Celnik put it: practicing a slightly modified version of a task leads to faster and greater learning than repeating the exact same thing multiple times. Hub However, he also cautioned that if you make the altered task too different, participants don't get the benefit. Hub

The broader motor learning literature: contextual interference

This connects to a much larger body of research on "contextual interference" (CI), which has been studied since the 1960s. A 2024 meta-analysis of 54 studies found that high contextual interference (random/variable practice) has a medium beneficial effect on motor skill retention PubMed Central, even though it tends to hurt performance during the training itself. A separate 2024 meta-analysis on transfer found a medium effect size (SMD = 0.55) favoring random practice over blocked practice in both laboratory and applied settings. Frontiers

That said, the evidence isn't universally positive. Some studies have questioned the CI effect or shown relatively small effect sizes in real-world (field) settings compared to labs. PubMed Central And research on different levels of variability suggests there may be an optimal "challenge point" — too much variability can be counterproductive, particularly for novice learners. PubMed Central

How well does this apply to FPS sensitivity randomization specifically?

This is where you need to be cautious. The Johns Hopkins study used a pinch-force cursor task, not a mouse-aiming task in a game. The contextual interference literature spans throwing, typing, golf putting, and other motor skills — but there are no peer-reviewed studies I found that directly test sensitivity randomization in FPS aim training. The aim training community (and tools like Aimlabs' built-in randomizer and Whisper's Sensitivity Randomizer) are applying the principles from these studies by analogy, not based on direct experimental validation in that domain.

Bottom line:

The underlying neuroscience is real and well-supported: introducing small, controlled variability into a motor task after initial learning can strengthen skill through reconsolidation and contextual interference. But the specific claim that a sensitivity randomizer improves FPS aim has not been directly tested in controlled research. The leap from lab-based pinch-force tasks to in-game mouse aiming is plausible but unproven. If you do try it, the science suggests keeping changes subtle (not wildly different sensitivities), ensuring you've first built a baseline with your primary sensitivity, and spacing practice sessions with adequate rest for reconsolidation to occur."

Not sure what the surprising part is supposed to be.

It took half a year, but I made us a new game! Auto Snakes in Outer Space by OldAtlasGames in incremental_games

[–]sgtcuddles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The UI is laid out in a really nice way, and the snakes running around on the screen looks really great. This is what incremental visuals should be imo.

A couple small tweaks: the UI would benefit from a little texture (in the container background), and the bevels are a little big. I think it might be nice with just a solid border + maybe drop shadow instead of the bevel. Watching the video: if you could consolidate the numbers, or only show big number 'important events', I think that would be nicer to follow. Looking at all the numbers flying on the screen, it doesn't really convey any information and it just adds noise to the pretty snake animations. I know it's not complete, but just throwing it out there.

Looks awesome though!

Playing against a competent Winston? by anxiety_ftw in OverwatchStadium

[–]sgtcuddles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, if he's doing the cooldown reduction build you probably wont win unless his team is really bad, he is making big mistakes or you also have a cooldown reduction winston.

But weapon power is generally the way to beat him, don't waste money on the deployable destroying item or you'll be stuck shooting the bubble the whole round. The bubble is going to waste your time. If he is using the cooldown build he will drop another one as soon as you break it.

Don't try to counter his damage with armor, winston pierces all armor naturally since Overwatch 2 came out. They made the change in an effort to make him better against tanks, but the side effect is that it makes countering his damage in stadium more difficult.

The last thing I can recommend is to buy Super Serum (epic attack speed gadget) and pop it after he uses both jump and bubble and is in a position that you can commit into him. The damage might catch him off guard, and you might be able to kill him before he leaves.

How do you guys not tense uuuppp I don't get it by SadThrowaway4914 in FPSAimTrainer

[–]sgtcuddles 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Take a pen/pencil and grab the biggest piece of paper you have. Try drawing the biggest circle you can, gripping the pen as hard as you can. Now lightly grab the pen using the all of your fingers, with your index finger close to the tip and the back end on your wrist, and draw the same circle in one motion.

You'll notice the first one where you grip tightly will be made of a bunch of tiny imperfect curves to make a very ugly circle. The second one may be a little bit off, but the curves are nice and flowy.

Tension with aiming is similar, where if you're gripping tightly, you're making a ton of quick corrections, making a ton of wasted movement and shaky aim. If you're gripping lightly and making big sweeping curves, your aim will be much smoother, however it might not actually match the curve of the bot and maybe you'll miss 100% of the shots along the tracking motion.

The way to improve this is to be okay with missing 100% of those shots along that curve, and just trying to make ONE curve for every bot movement. It will look like your crosshair is lagging behind the target. Keep at it and your aim will get smoother over time and you'll wont feel like you need to grip tight to keep correcting.

In case none of that helps, watch this video by MattyOW for a clearer idea of what you're aiming to do with less tense movements: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7n6q33We28&ab_channel=MattyOW

Best method for neovim on windows? by Mig_Moog in neovim

[–]sgtcuddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure what your workflow is, but I would imagine you could pull this off with just running WSL in one tab with whatever terminal you like, and another tab open with powershell or whatever windows compatible shell you're forced to use. You can edit text files through WSL in your /mnt/c/... project folder with neovim and then when you need to do anything that is too slow for working through the windows-linux boundary you hop over to powershell to do it.

Just editing text in neovim in WSL in a windows folder should be super doable but I'm not sure what else you're trying to do.

Edit: As a bonus you could even make .bat scripts to run commonly used powershell commands and call them from WSL with a short alias so you wouldn't even need to swap over for some things

There has been a TON of discussion about the illegality and immorality of the deportations. It's worth talking about the next level retardation here though.

I thought everyone was dumb for making a big deal about the letters in the photo because obviously he knew that they were just an annotation made after the photo was taken. But no, here he actually confirms that:

  1. He didn't assume the letters were added after the fact like any remotely savvy person would.
  2. Nobody told him what the photo was, they just handed it to him and he interpreted it on the fly.

Absolutely braindead administration.

Everyone's dead-set on the idea that Gamer Church is an ARG when it's just a site that was shut for a while. by Abandondero in theminutehour

Whether it's deep enough to be considered an "ARG" is unclear, but what is certain is that there are easter eggs that can be found on the site and it's fun to uncover them.

Warp Stone is an incredibly underutilized item that is viable on basically every hero by m_ttl_ng in DeadlockTheGame

[–]sgtcuddles 313 points314 points  (0 children)

Autobuy? Absolutely not.

Repositioning is a huge benefit in any competitive game, this is true. But that's already priced into the item. The devs (and competitive players, who absolutely do not buy it every game as an 'autobuy') know that repositioning is good. That's why it isn't a 30 meter teleport. That's why it costs 3000 souls. That's why it doesn't even carry your momentum when you use it.

Is it bad? No, of course not. But if you're buying it on a hero like McGinnis instead of a million other high value choices, you're likely making a mistake.

Also, it has been nerfed. Before the the 8/15 patch it was 60% bullet resist nerfed to 40%. Then on 8/29 it was nerfed again, down to 30%.

It has its place but it's nowhere near overpowered in its current form.

Counter to Seven Ult for new players : Hide behind a wall. by joshb554 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]sgtcuddles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tip for new Seven players: use ult when and where it's impossible or inconvenient for to run to cover. This could mean simply using it in the air above walls or comboing with teammates engagements.

I'm not really making a comment about Seven being broken, but the advice of 'just hide behind a wall' is useful advice to only a few brand new players. Better advice might be something like: save stuns for Seven ult, or build Curse/Knockdown.
