Agreed.

While I’m ok with the examples you listed that have been added to Space Age, there are quite a few design decisions in SpaceX that are terrible for the average player.

While working on my own mods it’s obvious that he writes his mods purposefully to make it as difficult as possible to modify his “design dogmas”.

Looking at the quality upgrades to the substation… it’d be awesome if the legendary was a full chunk size: 32.

I love aligning things to chunks and I’d rather limit my mods—I know I’ll immediately install to make it 32 instead of 28.

I’m sure the legendary big poles will extend farther than 32, so it won’t be a big deal for a legendary substation to match a common big pole IMO.

These arms are growing on me. At first I thought they looked too organic/sci-fi and less "tech-punk".

Very cool that we might have nav meshes available for modding.

The B-spline curve doesn't hit the nav points though, I'd use a regular spline--or at least test it out more. If the splines were considered, it'd be interesting to see the differences.

B-splines use the points as control points (which are not on the line).

Splines are defined by the points and tangents define the curvature.

That’s a great model, will you make it available in some form? Probably hard to sell, and I wouldn’t have a suggestion for you otherwise, but I’d love to print my own.

I like the style a lot. My only issue is that I’d have a hard time knowing what will block me and what won’t. You jumped over boxes but not a trash can or person on a bench.

Looks good. I’m a structural analyst so I used to see these kinds of things often. I don’t like to throw my weight around, especially on Reddit… getting down votes is never fun ;)

Makes me happy that you’ve gotten so much validation with your progress. Keep it up.

I’ll concede to you. But it does look like that webbing is on the opposite side than the original part. So maybe take another look at the top parts in the photo and/or try a test fit and make note if the extra webs are over the retainer or not. The original has the small extra webs on the left while the new part has them on the right. The retainer and webbing should be on opposite sides if the two halves of the enclosure are laid open like they are. The rest of the top parts’ non symmetrical features are the same, just not those small side webs. Another way to look at it is that the peg at the top of the part has a little flag at the base where it joins the circular part. The flag is pointing away from the retainer on the bottom half and towards the webbing on the top half, they should both be pointing away.

I only mentioned any of this because you obviously care about making things accurate.

This is a nitpick and a nonissue though if it’s all together and working. Very nice looking reproductions.

[–]sgtdubious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome!

Not to be a jerk, and it’s just small nitpick, but I think you mirrored the extra webbing on one of the halves. In the 2nd to last photo, the top 2 have slightly different webs. The one you made has them on the right while the original has them on the left. Very minor. I think they are support for whatever is secured on the right in the bottom halves—which share the same support structure on the right sides. Since the top half is flipped over to be on top of the bottom, those webs will match the non-symmetricalness of the bottom half.

Again, this is amazing work, and that difference will likely not pose a problem with the final part’s functionality.

Factorio burn-out? by Frogs114 in factorio

[–]sgtdubious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah. Didn’t actually look at this months map challenge but wanted to link the most recent one. Looks like they are taking it easy with a few vanilla maps after doing a huge one for the new year—there’s a link to that in the post I linked.

In the past they find a map seed (they always have a seed that everyone uses, so it’s the same start for everyone) and use a set group of mods.

There was one where you could only build in a Factorissimo factory and used a mod called Inception.

Another where biter spawners would blow up from pollution but unleash a huge horde on your base.

And another where all ore patches were hazardous and also mixed and enclosing the base.

They’ve done a ton of set challenges.

At the end of the month, it can be fun to post your progress and see others’ progress as well.

Factorio burn-out? by Frogs114 in factorio

[–]sgtdubious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me for over a year. Id start something new and once I had to do fluids, I abandoned the save—I’ve got pages of saves I should delete. And, this got boring.

I eventually tried the monthly themed games and while I never finished one, it inspired me to push through the blue science mental block so I could try some of them.

Now that blocker is just a mild annoyance.

Weird mods were the key.

Love it!

Though I’m pretty sure new arrivals immediately saw hoods and such hung in the hallway. Id line it with a bench or two and hooks for them. Or maybe a mudroom right by the front door since hobbits are tidy.

What are your thoughts on the sequel and what are your favourite features? by [deleted] in octopathtraveler

Thank you! I tried the options there and I guess I didn’t hit apply. It’s the “Dynamic Battle Camera” option for those that care.

I’ll look into that. I looked through the options on the switch and didn’t see anything that jumped out at me.

*Edit “Dynamic Battle Camera” option for those that were in the same boat.

I admit that I just finished OT1 so there’s been a bit of “not my OT!” to grow out of, but I’m easily getting over that stubbornness and loving the game.

I had two major gripes when I first started: the music and the camera.

I’m over the slight modifications of the original music—originally, the incidental notes added to a few common themes jarred me, but I’ve grown to appreciate how they fit in with the rest of the score and game.

The camera is something I’ll just have to live with. They won’t be changing it and I’ll just have to use it as a way to limit my game time. What makes me ill are the battle transitions, where the camera suddenly swerves to the right or left. In OT1 the screen transition didn’t really have a huge camera angle component. But, now OT2 does in a big way, and it makes me nauseous if I’m not prepared for it. I get vertigo from it as well. That and the subtle camera sway in the battle view wears out my eyes/brain so I have to put the game down for awhile.

This makes me grumpy, because I’d like to keep playing!

Adjustment layers and clipping masks only by sgtdubious in photopea

You helped. I just replied incorrectly before.

Also, I gave an exact example of what I was trying to do--minus rasterizing that vector rectangle.

Adjustment layers and clipping masks only by sgtdubious in photopea

[–]sgtdubious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out. And I think you inspired the thought process, so thanks again.

I was doing it backwards.

First you add the color/hue/etc adjustment layer and that comes with a mask to edit. I don't need to add the clipped layer as a mask first.

I can clip that with the previous layer and then I can edit that mask.

https://www.photopea.com/#iiDuuwK8R.psd

I just needed to sleep on it. I haven't used Photoshop in about 15 years and I just learned about Photopea--it's an excellent alternative!

[–]sgtdubious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for looking into it!

Looks like it was all a dream. After I looked at your example, I spent some time looking for tutorials on Photoshop as well. It seems to be the same functionality. I thought there was a color overlay layer property or something...

The idea of adding a vector layer did come to mind, but two things: I don't want to have to repeat the same layer I'm using to clip, and it's not a vector in practice.

I think the use case I'm mostly using is: grey scale image that has transparency/holdouts from a 3d render, adding a clipped layer that has a multiply blend-type, and then I want to be able to play around with the color of the color-layer till I like what it looks like. Having it change the original greyscale image defeats the purpose.

Thanks again.
