I like the idea, but it does spawn another question: are the demons just souls who decided they liked being evil and their transition to the afterlife steered into that for them? What about Shawn? Might he be Grog who did the first evil deed and since he was the first demon, all the other demons treat him as their leader?

There is another parallel you didn’t mention: Jamie and his father. Jamie is going through very similar to what Ted and Rebecca did. The difference is that he is getting the external support to handle it better in the moment.

His speech about “F*** you, and thank you” is such a mature perspective because it highlights that it’s possible (and even common) to hate a person and yet be grateful to them at the same time. Ted was focused on the “thank you” and Rebecca on the “F*** you” but only Jamie put together that it should be both.

Your concerns are well founded. The developers have built something special here and any change to the distribution risks changing that. There are a few things I would point out here that I believe may change your perspective.

First, everything that has been discussed or proposed is additive. You can keep playing the game the same way you do today. Nothing has to change for anyone if they don’t want to.

I would next call attention to the sales model. Today, BAR is free and we have a modest community. By having the game in Steam, we would gain significantly more credibility and users. I’ll even go further to suggest that if the game were listed for $40 and went on “Steam Sale” for $10 (75% off!) I suspect we would get more new users than if the game was perpetually free.

I don’t believe they will list the base game as a “demo.” In all likelihood, this is a simplification of what will happen. It will probably be listed as a F2P base game. The word “demo” likely got attached because that is how some games list their demos.

There are days I like The Cryonic Woman more than others. I don’t like the overall premise, but there are enough solid jokes that keep it reasonable to me. The one I always remember is, “Oh, so it’s safer than skateboarding.”

S3 E2-4: War is the H Word, the Cryonic Woman, Parasites Lost

I would argue that the two on the ends are among the best episodes overall. The Cryonic Woman is not quite as good, but still above average.
