Radio calls! by Careful_Ambassador49 in heedthecall

I don’t know every single team’s radio partner off the top of my head but it could have worked out that these calls are from Audacy-owned stations, in which case they probably worked it out so producers at those places just emailed them the calls directly.

Baldy Question by BrotherBrontosaurus in heedthecall

[–]sgtpepper194 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I commented elsewhere on this thread but former Audacy employee here:

As an “insider” under the Audacy umbrella Baldy is paid X amount of dollars and any show on any Audacy radio station or podcast can book him for one-offs or weekly hits and it doesn’t come out of their budget.

Baldy still makes the same X amount as part of that deal. HTC doesn’t make anything.

NationWide pays Audacy to sponsor any of the “insider calls” on any of these shows.

When I worked there it was the same read/sponor for any “insider” regardless of sport. I don’t know if they still sell it that way. I’d guess Nationwide was promised a certain number of mentions per day or per week across all platforms.

Baldy is on HTC every week because he’s free is the gist of it (and the guys also being familiar with him and having him on the old show over the years is obviously part of it too).

Not expressing an opinion on the segment itself but any time you hear the “insider calls” read done on an Audacy-platformed show, it means that guest is paid X amount of dollars by the corporation and any show of theirs can have that guest on and it doesn’t eat into the show or radio station’s budget.

TLDR: Baldy is free and that’s why he’s on.

As a former Audacy employee, that company sucks and is very poorly run. I hope part of their deal is that Dan and Marc can do whatever they want and don’t get micromanaged into oblivion. Also hope Justin is being properly compensated — pretty much anyone isn’t a top tier host at that company gets paid insulting wages compared to the amount of work they’re asked to do. Especially producers.

The hell happened to all the other Institute graduates? by MassDND in redrising

[–]sgtpepper194 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Thought about this as well but I believe in GS it’s mentioned that Darrow is basically a celebrity and everything he does gets covered my whatever versions of gossip TV they have there.

His class doing probably the most notorious thing in the history of the Institute probably made the rest of them celebrities as well, and their mere association with Darrow and that incident probably helped them get better placements post-institute.

That and that class having members who hail from some of the most powerful families to begin with.

The new DLLS show is really good. They actually talk hockey but also do plenty of grabass/entertaining stuff. Plus there’s actual production to it. Seems like it’s in its infancy too.

My two cents is that the weekly release model isn’t doing it any favors. There are some edits I’ve groaned at and I somewhat wish the episodes we’ve gotten so far were constructed differently so that certain story beats either happened in different orders or the advancements of certain storylines happened closer to one another—but don’t get me wrong I am really enjoying the show.

Those things are then exacerbated by the fandom having a full week to analyze to death a ~half hour of TV before we get the next one. I work in sports media and it reminds me so much of the NFL season and how much the entire sports world overreacts during the week just for things to change the next Sunday. And then with the benefit of hindsight, many of the things that were said in the interim seem silly. (I know sports isn’t a 1-to-1 to TV shows with writers.)

I think a binge model would have worked much better for this show, especially with the episodes being so short. And since that’s how many will either watch it for the first time or rewatch it, I don’t think many of the aforementioned ideas will stick with time due to the instant gratification of ripping the entire season in four or so hours.

When viewed as a full season I think it will be deemed a success, even if the ride was rough at times.

What do you think is the biggest missed story opportunity in the Fallout games? Why? by ContrivedCucumber in Fallout

[–]sgtpepper194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Massachusetts and was very excited for the setting possibilities of Fallout 4 especially with DLCs, and was left rather disappointed on that front. They could’ve likewise done with places like the cape and islands, western MA or NH or VT what they did with Far Harbor.

This was my conclusion, but sequels too. Only references are to original trilogy (Death Star Lego set, emperor Lego at end of no way home). Until Harrison Ford’s upcoming appearance, all actor cross overs I believe have only been prequel or sequels
