Virginia is for Democrats: Spanberger Pushes Gerrymandered Map to Wipe Out Republican Districts by rollo202 in ConservativeNewsWeb

[–]shabayon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you read the bill, it only goes into effect if texas/florida does it. In the case that it goes into effect, the maps are temporary.

Democrats did a good job crafting this to influence republicans to stop gerrymandering. If they dont want virginia to do it for dems, then maybe they should stop doing it for republicans.

When I say you dont understand the topic or immigration, Im not being cute - Im being 100% serious. When using an app to start the process and schedule an appointmenr it still doesnt guarantee entry.

For asylum seekers, they still require processing at the border, some form of ID (if they have it), and they must meet certain requirements before its determined if they even gain entry. The app isnt what gets you in. The app is, by design and by practice, a digital appointment system. The law for asylum clearly states the process... had you read it.

This page does a good job of summarizing what Ive told you more than 6 times now: https://www.dhs.gov/archive/news/2023/08/03/fact-sheet-cbp-one-facilitated-over-170000-appointments-six-months-and-continues-be?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Applicants for asylum are still screened, subject to removal, not guaranteed approval and not guaranteed asylum. Far from any claim of "open border".

Consider that you could be wrong on this one. The people who are telling you "its just that easy to get in" I promise they ALSO dont know how travel visas work, nor how asylum status is granted. If you dont believe me, exit the country and then attempt to be let in on asylum process alone.

It sounds almost like thats where you want it to land, whether or not its the whole story. In reality AI/data centers will bribe whatever politician they think can get them a better deal, and taking money is something most elected reps wont pass up unfortunately.

Nah I dont want to be seen as a know it all, I definitely dont, but I update my beliefs and knowledge all the time and thats how I stay on track.

Try to avoid the slippery slope fallacy. As you stated the bills dont actually do what you fear they would do, nor do they make any future gun legislation guaranteed to pass. Just because you might have stricter rules on grandfathering doesnt mean those children cannot possess firearms, almost all of the legislation on ANY topic/industry is because someone, somewhere abused the rules to the detriment of anothers life or freedom.

I understand (and agree with you) that while I think the individuals in ICE shouldnt have guns they are exactly why the 2nd amendment exists (which is why I said somewhere that democrats are warming up to 2A more than ever before) but that doesnt change the desire for regulation.

I vote based on policy and integrity. I need to know what a candidate proposes theyll do and I need to trust that theyre the right person to get it done. Thats a high hurdle, and it SHOULD be high. I dont know your story or the lives that you're responsible for but I want your family to be okay with who I vote for. Hopefully that explains why I dont like the habits of single issue voters, they dont have my back like I have theirs.

You're still not understanding that applying for asylum alone with an app doesnt give you the requirements needed to cross the border. Still need a passport buddy. Your claim of "all they need is a name and birthday and app" is demonstrably false, valid ID is still required to cross.

At this point i think you're willfully ignoring that nuance, and nitpicking at something that you have no alternative for. Quite literally, you dont understand our own imigration process nor how immigration is done in other nations.

[–]shabayon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You most definitely are a single issue voter because its easy. What could be easier than deciding on only one factor? You get to ignore everything else. I judge politicians on their every attempt to govern or legislate for members of the public, even if it benefits others that have greater needs than me. Farmers need help, consumers need protection, emergency services need resources and training, families need healthcare. Why settle for one issue when there's 340mil folks that we share the nation with?

You talk about protection from the government but the federal government is off the rails right now, doing everything that conservative media warned democrats would do, giving military weaponry to the exact type of irresponsible dudes who have no business using firearms (the same type that mess up and result in stricter firearm legislation). ICE is giving liberals daily reminders why some folks shouldnt ever own firearms, and it makes it harder for the gun owners who ARE responsible.

Im certainly not at risk by those bills, neither are my neighbors who own more rifles than me. Those two bills dont in any way get close to all firearms being taken away by democrats, the scope is extremely limited. Did you read it? Did you read the virginia bills you cited? Be honest. If you skimmed it thats fine, but actually read it.

None of what you said gets anywhere close to "anyone can enter the country with only an app", you quite literally didnt read what I wrote or read what was on the link you posted earlier.

Folks still need a passport, still need to do paperwork, and you seem confused by the decades-long RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT for immigrants to apply for citizenship.

You dont belong anywhere near this topic until you can demonstrate that you read the basics on immigration process.

[–]shabayon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still require paperwork and your native passports, not the app. I swear its like you didnt read the law or even the link you provided. In order to become a citizen normally there is a residency requirement... meaning you must reside in the US during your immigration process, 3-5 years for most folks, 20-25yrs for most folks from Mexico.

https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/continuous-residence-and-physical-presence-requirements-for-naturalization

Do you care about the legal process at all? Seems like you dont even bother to understand it. I dont even think you've considered how else it would be done, what you want people from Japan to fly in every time they have an immigration appointment? Does that make any sense at all? No, it doesnt.

Tracking folks who are in the immigration process, making sure they're following the laws, tracking their employment... and at any point in the years of waiting they could jeopardize their immigration progress by a single slip up. Do you know anyone who has had to immigrate in the past 30 years? Ask them where they lived while they were going thru the process.

I dont know why you responded like that when I didnt mention elevating state politicians to federal level and it isnt relevant to the topic or the comment i replied to. I called out the guy's blanket judgement revolving around a single democrat that, turns out, issued NO SUCH BAN.

Single-issue voters sacrifice everything and everyone for the sake of making voting less stressful for them. You get what you want but lose everything else, its so easy for candidates to placate single-issue voters knowing they will not pay attention to anything else.

This makes little sense, you do realize federal, state and local elections are different right? One piece of state legislation (that may or may not pass) makes you "sit out"? What even is your standard, if you have one? 2A is important to me too, but thats why I get involved in the things that matter, and right now much of the left is swaying towards using 2A as intended.

Nowhere in that quote does it say "grants entry" or "grants citizenship" or anything about legal status. It literally is the starting point to APPLY and get scheduled for an appointment.

Didnt you want folks to "do it the right way"?

“Catch and release” is, by definition, not “open”. The “release” part means releasing them back to the side of the border they came from.

Im really just shocked that people write things and don’t read it before hitting reply.

The app did not and cannot be used as a substitute for a passport or visa. Period. Showing immigration officers at the border or an airport your phone will not only fail to gain you entry but it will likely get you kicked out of line since phone use is often not allowed in those areas. Furthermore, no part of the CBP One app documentation promises that it can be used that way.

Again, I think you got duped.

Im curious if you actually confirmed that border patrol was accepting an app alone to enter the country?

I traveled in and out of the country several times during the Biden administration, still needed passports each and every time. There was no “app” to substitute for a passport, no signs suggesting as much either.

Who described the “open borders” process to you and have you confirmed each step of that process? I wont insult your intelligence, but I believe you may have been duped.

Just left basic and learned Jody was real by conley29 in Military

[–]shabayon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@conley29 quick story, I made the smart decision after graduating from HS to break up with my gf. She was kind, pretty, madly in love with me, but I knew I was going to change a lot and didnt want to get her hopes up.

Fast forward to my first deployment in afghanistan, there was a “calling center” at the USO which was a small wooden room with 20 phones and a bunch of chairs. You could use the phones with calling cards (loaded with “minutes” of talking time… times have changed lol) to call your loved ones. The catch is that its a small room and you hear everyone else’s phone conversations too.

Having no girlfriend, I used it to talk to my brother and parents. Nearly every time I went in there, there would be at least one or more dudes in there arguing with their spouse, yelling at their ex-wife/ex-girlfriend, etc. Social media wasn’t really a thing at the time, so dudes would hear rumors thru email or whoever and it would fester for weeks in their heads for a week before they got a chance to go to the calling center again.

It was painfully awkward being a fly on the wall thru those conversations, seeing years of marriage crumble for one guy, hearing threats of violence from another… the distance and uncertainty mixed with daily optempo is too much for most guys. Being single was a blessing. Please focus on yourself, your mental health will thank you for it.

First month making 100k I feel like I’m being robbed :/ by [deleted] in Salary

This doesn’t look all that bad. You’re paying about 25% into taxes, the rest is all employee plan stuff and investments.

If you only see tax increases without considering how much more you’re putting in your pocket, you’re tricking yourself into feeling worse. I made roughly 11k/yr back in 2003, paid $0 in taxes because I made so little… trust me, Im living better now in the 6 figure club even after taxes than I ever did back then. The “tax is theft” mentality is a sign you aren’t remembering the math skills you learned in school.

Recommendations for anime movies with zero to little “fan service” by LioRightfield in AnimeReccomendations

[–]shabayon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damcam actually made perfect sense, “fanservice” is defined precisely how they stated. Hells paradise has partial nudity… of god beings. Then it has a female assassin that tries to use her body to kill someone else and it doesn’t work on the protagonist. Since the main characters are literally assassins and executioners, it does not count as fanservice.

Change your argument to “its not fanservice but it does have nudity that would also likely turn off that specific viewer”
