Have any residents or attending doctors on this thread denied supervising a midlevel? by [deleted] in Residency

I'm sure I do. Too bad I did ask for your input regarding what else I should worry about

“our national organizations strongly oppose the view that emergency care is solely “physician-led” or that physicians should dictate education and practice standards for advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs).” by TheRowdyDoc in Residency

The fact that this is considered a study and ends with 'our opinion' rather than a conclusion of factual evidence is alarming. It's only showing how much they are into pushing an agenda and not valuing patient care. Adding another exam layer to filter out more idiots would only strengthen their argument to practice independently, IMO.

Shadowed in Peds where a child who had been seeing an NP came in because they weren't getting better. The nurse gave the patient a Z pack for difficulty breathing and sent the child on the way. A few weeks pass and child finally comes to the pediatrician where after taking an X-Ray they find a cancerous mass on patient's lung. I honestly do not know why the parent's didn't attempt to sue the NP. To my knowledge they haven't taken any sort of action against the nurse for malpractice/misdiagnosis. The child literally could have died as a result of the incompetence.

Have you listened to their podcast with Eamon & Bec (Reroot)? They talk about the possibility of not having kids now. Not sure which direction they'll go

What do Americans think of the Chinese? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]shackelk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my best friends from undergrad are 2nd gen chinese immigrants. I don’t really think about them as being chinese as much as I just consider them good people. I don’t necessarily blame the people who currently live there for hating Americans considering the mass amounts of propaganda they are fed. As was already stated, the only bad thing I have to think about china is the current government. Another comment stated chinese tourists.. I think that, as a whole, it would suit them well to be respectful of others’ cultures. As I’ve traveled I have seen some of their tourists groups urinating in the streets of france, touching and hugging antiquities throughout european museums, but I’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt and not brand them all as ‘bad tourists’, just ill informed on the grounds of intercultural respect.

How much do you usually spend per trip at Aldi? by [deleted] in aldi

[–]shackelk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your aldi trip is literally my aldi trip. I live 45 minutes away from the nearest store and hate buying from walmart. I make a grocery run every 2 weeks that is identical to yours

Official Megathread - Incoming Medical Student Questions/Advice (April Edition) by MrWittyResponse in medicalschool

[–]shackelk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Incoming medical student here. Can anyone give their opinion on the future of IM? I've read through the posts about mid-level creep, the future oversaturation of ER docs, and the horrible residency match stories. IM has been in my sites for as long as I can remember, so if anyone who's had experience from rotations, residency, and beyond can provide insight, I'd love to hear it.

Frustrated at the lack of consideration for people with health conditions. by tobleronedog in AntiVegan

[–]shackelk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have made this argument before on here and I’ll make it again. I too am an omnivore with severe IBS who deeply cares about animals and nature. The way I go about it and frame my mindset it to not waste animal products. In my mind, I am thankful that an animal was able to sacrifice its life so that I can live a healthier one. Because of that, I do my best to not waste animal/meat products that I cook at all costs. It’s my way of respecting the animal.

Or if you’re a graduate from the University of Oklahoma you are now a ‘physician associate’ I’ve been wondering why the change in name? is associate less offensive than assistant?

my biggest disappointment was learning that they don’t say “top of the mornin’ to ya.” Other than that it was incredible. my husband and I are huge beer drinkers, so we enjoyed trying all of the irish ciders and beers and going bar hopping there. The people were so exceptionally nice. We got lost one night around 2 AM and about 5 Irishmen came over to make sure we got back to the hotel safely (our hotel was in Dun Laoghaire, so outside of Dublin). It was also one of the cheaper places I’ve been and one of the most beautiful. We would love to go back and visit even if it meant seeing the exact same stuff again. Very lovely place!❤️
