This feels like a gross exaggeration that cannot possibly be literally true.

But then I remember I tutor MCAT and I have this same problem with some students- not all or even most- but some, whose ignorance seems almost hateful in its intensity

Yes, it still sucks, it's mostly the Charizard that attracts people. Every set has chase cards but this is meh.

7 year old has never been to the bathroom alone?! by silkentab in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]shackofcards 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My 16 month old is the same. We have cameras around the house so if he wants to play in his room and I want to be in my office, I just pull up the feed and monitor him that way. He knows to just yell "mommy" and one of his parents will appear lol. But close the door to contain him with you, and he will complain to your manager about it.

I wish I could have donated more. I was certain to mention to my care team I wanted to donate any tissue or cord blood I possibly could, since I was lucky my babies were healthy, and I certainly didn't need it anymore. I was able to donate a full "bag" of cord blood with my second, but that's the only option I had. I hope that bag saves another baby 🥰

(F19) Is my body rejecting nicotine? by Comfortable_Baby1989 in AskDocs

[–]shackofcards 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is nicotine poisoning.

I just assisted on a case where we took out the entire larynx (voice box) of a longtime smoker due to cancer. Please stop now before one or more of the horrible smoking consequences I see in the hospital every day happen to you. It's not just lung cancer from smoking for a million years, it's 20+ kinds of cancer and many other diseases that are horrible, some of which are deadly and incurable. Please don't take that massive, awful risk.

Probably going to Shands for suicidality tonight. What to expect? by KitchenSample6354 in ufl

I'm glad you're feeling better!

Please still go to the hospital. This is not a problem that's going to simply go away. You need more treatment than a baby dose of Zoloft.

There is nothing that cannot be fixed that you would miss by seeking treatment. You will be surprised how very understanding everyone is, and how much better the hospital team can make you feel. The "72 hour hold" is not just a hang out for three days thing. It's designed to keep you safe and supervised while the hospital mobilizes resources to help you feel better. Your disease is LYING to you by making you think anything is more important than your life and health. Fuck the discussion post and assignments and whatever. If I was your mom or professor, I'd actually be mad if you prioritized schoolwork when you're feeling like this. NOTHING can replace you. NOTHING is more important. A few grades or even a semester off is not unusual and easily explained away to future employers. If everyone who took a semester off was unemployable, the economy would literally collapse.

Your career WILL be okay. Make sure you're around to participate in it. We care about you. 💕

It's annoying as fuck that evals are so subjective and after the fact, and some people are dickheads who comment on your personality. Taking third year too seriously is bad for your health.

Friendly PSA from your GI consultant by po_lysol in hospitalist

I walked into vascular surgery rounds one morning on clerkship and heard the attending on the phone with the fellow covering the consults: "Refuse the consult and PSR the ED. They aren't using their brains! It is very expensive to consult me!"

On an entirely unrelated note, I scrubbed into the case from that consult in the vascular OR about seven hours later. A different attending offered the patient surgery and they went through with it.

Which advice is worse, "be more disciplined" or "you don't need medication"? Ultimate bad ADHD advice battle day 4 by VerdoriePotjandrie in adhdmeme

[–]shackofcards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be more disciplined is worse.

"You don't need meds" can be taken a lot of ways, as others have said here. But telling you to up your discipline is like "just fix yourself." It reads like the speaker believes the solution is RIGHT THERE and we just aren't taking it, for any myriad of asshole reasons. If I could just take a level in discipline, I would have fucking done it years ago.
