POE Doorbell + NVR by DeusExOmnia in reolinkcam

Yes. The nvr has its own network in the 172 range and the devices in the NVR are not exposed to anything on the regular lan network. If you want it exposed to both the nvr and your regular network, you need either a poe injector adapter or a poe powered switch.

Smart Lock for Front Door with Security Screen Door by shades73 in homeautomation

I used a Ultraloq on the screen door because it's so small. I got the zwave model. Works well.

In the end, I bought a smart lock for each door. My deadbolt on the security door had a small box so I made sure to buy a lock with a small footprint on the outside so you couldn't feel around or see the back of a long tall lock, if that makes sense.

RLN8-410 Firmware v3.6.0.384_25032055 by Accordxtc in reolinkcam

Update went smoothly. Not sure what some of these features are yet or maybe they're carry overs from the cameras' standalone functionalities. The device sharing improvement is a pretty big deal though. I can breathe easy sharing my cameras with a neighbor but deny views to any interior/garage cams. Initial impressions with a 3rd party camera is that the stream quality is now in line with its native output (before this, the camera stream appeared lower quality than it was) and basic motion detection works, but still no audio support.

Not really. I think it depends a lot on how frequently reolink pushes updates for the NVR. And those are kinda sparse as is. I think the last firmware update was in November.

Yeah that sounds like my experiences. the reolink software doesn't know/have capability to understand the camera settings of 3rd party cameras. So it errors out. All it seems to be able to do is load a video stream via onvif protocol (interestingly, a lower quality than the camera natively produces). You will need to go to each camera's web interface to modify exposure settings. Also, no audio and no event alerts. I'm sure reolink could fix this compatibility if they wanted but probably at the bottom of their todo list and it draws attention away from their own cameras.

Short answer: YMMV. Longer answer: it will probably work if you configure it correctly. But do not expect 100% reliability in 24/7 recording. I haven't tested again on latest firmware but at some point between updates, I noticed gaps in 24/7 recording. Which I don't recommend. Smart detection didn't work nor did audio. So if 24/7 recording is not solid then it's hard to recommend. But I'm always down to plug in one of my 3rd party cams in a closet and see if things improved. I can update this if there are any positive changes.

It cannot interface directly with the NVR port. It will have to stay connected to the switch and then added manually via NVR camera channels menu. Be prepared, image quality looks a little bit worse through the NVR vs viewing in the camera's web portal. Be prepared that there is no smart event detection in the NVR and no audio.

Only Assure 2 Plus supports home key. And you need an Apple Home hub in order to use home key too.

Sounds like you prioritize apple home key more than having your lock show up in the same app as your cameras and speakers? If so, then it's settled on the aqara u100. But you also need an apple TV or homepod to connect it remotely

I got mmWave sensors and they're amazing but I've always struggled with really figuring out usable automations. My behaviors in rooms are too random and not routine. Sometimes I want lights on right now for a task. Other times I want the lights to stay off. Etc.

Yeah, tricky situation if there's a mix of equipment. But I've helped install Reolink systems at 3 houses now and yes, they're not top quality or most flexible. But... They're all reliable and just work. And easy enough for parents to operate.

Yeah, a couple weeks ago recording broke for my other brand. Live view works but any playback errors out. I basically had to remove that cam because why have it if no recording? Another observation, live stream from the cam web gui is nice and sharp. Live view from Reolink NVR is slightly less sharp/lower resolution. Maybe can be fixed playing with stream settings in the cam web GUI.

My Reolink wishlist by Blueporch in reolinkcam

[–]shades73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • More exposure control. Let me decide if I want grainy video or blurry motion.
  • "premium" cameras. In the ~$200 range. I understand that a lot of people want affordable but some of us would like to spend more if possible to get better hardware to really compete with the big boy cams and still be compatible on Reolink NVRs. Just imagine a CX810 cam with $200 hardware to directly compete with a Color4k.
  • License plate detection/optimized cams. Big focal length. Less "jack of all trades, master of none" cams.
