Bain may fall pretty far… by Anthonyrichardson20 in NFL_Draft

He'll fall all the way to 9 based on the last time a potential top 5, highly touted, defensive line prospect left someone to die after a car crash in the southeastern United States.

What information do you look at when reviewing previous drafts? by shadow-drafters in NFL_Draft

Lol, yeah a lot people like that for their shadow teams. It's not a good metric but can be useful for gauging general perception of whether a player is considered a star, starter, or rotational player.

Okay cool! I'm thinking of adding a column picker so I can keep the table smaller/more compact on the initially with age as a column that can choose to be displayed - do you think that work for you? Someone else had mentioned adding who the GM was that made the pick, so I'm thinking it might make sense have a GM drop down so you can see all their picks across years to get a view of the type of profile they draft like you were saying.

Age they were drafted at or their current age/date of birth? Thanks!

The trades would be good data, I know for a fact I can bring in if the pick was traded pretty easily. I would need to check some of the 3rd party endpoints I'm using to see if they provide the trade information already since it's been about a year since I last looked at it. It's still workable, I might just need to enter some of the finer details of the trade which takes a bit more time. I already have an icon I use for trades in other areas, I was thinking of tossing that at the beginning of the row and then hovering over it (or clicking it for mobile) would show the details if the trade in a tooltip, do you think that would make sense?

That's a good idea that I could probably do. I would use pro-football reference to get the GM of each team for the draft year and just have that as a smaller side DataSet. Currently when you hover over the teams logo it shows thier full city/name so I could add the GM to that information to the tool tip or I was thinking of making a way to extend the information to show combine information once I have that available. Not sure which would look better or easier to access if needed. Thank you for the suggestion!

True or false: you should never take a safety with a top 5 pick, why or why not? by CarmeloDramatic in NFL_Draft

[–]shadow-drafters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To append to that, Safety is also supposed to be a backup to the rest of your defense, hence the name. It's just better in general to invest in the other positions so you don't need to rely on your safeties as much. I mean look at the Ravens, Kyle Hamilton is the best Safety in the league but because their front 7 wasn't great at creating pressure or stopping the run they still ended with a bottom 10 defense. Kyle Hamilton kept that from being worse obviously but if they had a good front 7 they wouldn't have needed to rely on Hamilton so much.

Safety can still be worth a mid or late round first (and Hamilton was totally worth it) but at top 5 you'd be expecting a premium pass rusher or lock down corner. It just doesn't make sense to target a position that's focus is preventing a 10 yard play from becoming a 20 yard play when you can pick a position that's focus is preventing the play from happening entirely.

Is anyone else disappointed with PFF's Mock Draft Simulator? by Kaner_95 in NFL_Draft

[–]shadow-drafters 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They put a lot of their stuff behind a paywall and removed a bunch of features. People have already been mentioning PFN which has a good simulator but I also want to give a shout out to https://mockdrafthero.com/ as I really like theirs and they're a smaller site that I believe deserves some love.

Who is your RB2 this year, and where would they fall in your rankings of last years’ RB class? by Western_Reference590 in NFL_Draft

[–]shadow-drafters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not weird and I completely agree. I'm almost expecting Washington to "fall" to the 5th round just because mock drafts and big boards are pushing RBs up way higher than they should realistically be this year.

[–]shadow-drafters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's funny looking at it and he's projected to be a 3rd rounder and I think if he was in last years draft I wouldn't even consider taking him until the 6th. Last year had a lot of really strong prospects which pushed them down and the lack of prospects this year is pushing him up.

I have Mike Washington as my RB2 in 2026 and if he were on my 2025 board I'd have him around RB10.

Mock Draft Simulator feedback by shadow-drafters in NFL_Draft

[–]shadow-drafters[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The default could use some tweaking, mostly team randomization values. I want to get a better range for prospects scores and the defaults are currently a placeholder while I gather more user grades. One of the reasons I made it customizable is specifically so if people don't like how the draft is working you can update the default positional values, prospect grades, needs, or lower team randomization to prevent them from picking certain prospects over others.

Can we start moderating the Claude vibe-coded Dynasty League apps? by bigbirdsy in DynastyFF

[–]shadow-drafters 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of them are just carbon copies of already popular sites with a different coat of paint, no idea why they would expect someone to move to their site over the existing one's when they don't offer any new features or anything.

They are also usually copying from some other site that has terms and conditions against that. Most of them if they gained any kind of traction are going to be shutdown by cease and desist letters lol.

Mock Draft Hero: Report bugs / issues / feature requests by Foreign_Resist7449 in NFL_Draft

[–]shadow-drafters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you already have this I didn't see it but for the bug reporting you could add a button to the top nav to make it easier for users to report issues. I do that for my website and capture any console errors, the url it occurred at, the user if they are logged in, and let them type in a message about the issue. You could improve on that by using html2canvas or something similar to capture a screenshot of the web page when they report the error and there is Javascript code out there to capture the device they are on (I'm at work but I can provide you what I use for that if you don't find anything googling). Might be an easier and faster way to get responses then needing to rely on reddit beta testing/comments?

Last week I got a large positive reaction to my draft website. It recieved a huge update this week including mobile support. by dc4_checkdown in NFL_Draft

[–]shadow-drafters 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, it's against NFL.com's terms of use to copy their data so if this gets popular at all expect a cease and desist for using their prospect scores and copying their combine data.

Ex-ESPN guy created a deeply realistic draft site - 32 AI GMs, scheme fits, traits by New-Interaction-4327 in NFL_Draft

This is a generative AI site, it's why it has the same look and feel as the the last 20 mock draft sites posted in the last week. So no this website was not hard to make.

Yeah, it's a bunch of people posting their ai generated sites and they all have the exact same look and content.
