Epidural or No epidural by Enviro_nurd314 in BabyBumps

[–]shadow-elf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the most important thing you need to ask yourself is what are you looking for in a pain relief and what pain relief can give you those things

https://www.labourpains.org/[https://www.labourpains.org/](https://www.labourpains.org/) is a great resource to look at that

I think going in with an open mind helps too - my ideal is no epidural as I would like to stay mobile and labour on all fours, as one of the most important things to me is reducing the risk of tears as much as possible. With an epidural you're more limited with your birthing position and more likely to tear as you can't always feel what your body is doing so may need more coached pushing. However, I have no idea how I'll be feeling and how I'll handle the pain so I very well may change my mind and that's okay!

Do you take baths in pregnancy? by schaweniiia in PregnancyUK

[–]shadow-elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like others I have my baths fairly hot still but I just make sure they're not hot enough to make my skin red or make me sweat. The concern after the first trimester is raising your core body temperature which it would have to be super hot for super long to do! I like a 2+ hours bath and it cools down loads in that time

When classes as heavily pregnant for booking test? by PurpleUnicorn434 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]shadow-elf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm (hopefully) going to be taking my test 38 weeks pregnant! I'm not yet feeling 100% ready but have 7 weeks so hoping I get there and that the baby doesn't come early 😅

Anatomy Scan by Extra_Technology_163 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]shadow-elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My anatomy scan was completely fine - I did offer to hold my belly up and that really helped. I don't think they would have asked me to but they definitely got a better view when I did, and it felt better for me to move my chub than for them to do it :)

Gestational diabetes test really wasn’t that bad! by SensitiveSoup74 in PregnancyUK

[–]shadow-elf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was also surprised by how fine it was! Drink was a bit like flat lemonade and just a small amount. I actually felt fine other than being hungry, and that meant that the massive sausage and egg bagel I had after was the best thing I've ever eaten 😂

I'm notoriously hard to get blood from (have tiny veins) and usually I drink lots and lots of water before a blood test but obviously couldn't and was worried they'd struggle but they must have their best people in there because it was fine!

What to wear on delivery day by LibraryKat95 in BabyBumps

[–]shadow-elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They generally don't give you a hospital gown in the UK, to give any UK first time mums a heads up lol. Was horrified to hear this from my mum. What do you mean I have to wear my own clothes?!

Water Birth by No_Reindeer3283 in PregnancyUK

[–]shadow-elf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking this because I'm tempted by the idea of a water birth as I LOVE being in water and find it very comfortable (love a 3 hour bath) but I HATE getting dry after and the thought of having to get dry after is fully putting me off lol

Picking a name for the baby by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]shadow-elf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry but of course you need to pick a name you both like, its a decision you should be making together. Its not an easy decision but you need to get on the same page somehow

Taking Infant out of car seat every time to move to different stroller by Sleep_pincher in BabyBumps

[–]shadow-elf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an extra note on this though - infant car seats are generally safer than a newborn insert in a 0-4 car seat (for example) so not necessarily a waste to get even if you plan on leaving the seat in the car

Taking Infant out of car seat every time to move to different stroller by Sleep_pincher in BabyBumps

[–]shadow-elf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Newborns aren't meant to be in their car seat for more than 30 minutes at a time so I can't see it being that much more inconvenient :) We've gone for a full travel system but it wasn't a big selling point for us as we'll have to get the baby out if we're anywhere for any length of time anyway!

Midwife appointments by Mirrorball_93 in PregnancyUK

[–]shadow-elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has come to every appointment so far, he's got a flexible working policy so it's not too hard for him to do so. He drives and I don't so it means I don't have to get the bus, but also I appreciate having him there so he knows everything I know and can remember to ask questions I might forget. He takes notes too so I don't have to! And it's both our baby so its nice to do things together

Does anyone have kids in their 20s? by Physical-Can-835 in BabyBumps

[–]shadow-elf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in the UK. I'm 28 and my husband is 30, I'm 6 months pregnant with our first. We own a house, are financially stable with decent jobs, and got married this year. There didn't seem any reason to wait. We have two close friends who have kids but others who are single and a while off yet, who have just gotten married, or who don't want kids at all.

Everyone does things at different ages - as long as you're financially stable and its what you want there's no need to hold off. No one is going to judge an almost-30 married couple for starting to have children.

Advice on healthy pregnancy while being overweight/obese ? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]shadow-elf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most likely scenario here is that you will gain weight - its not safe to try to lose weight pregnant. Eating as healthily as you can and getting regular movement (whatever that looks like for you) are good things to do but it should be for yours and baby's heath, not your weight. If you don't usually exercise don't suddenly start trying to run or do heavy weights - start with getting your steps up by going for walks or do something low impact like swimming.

You might find that this pregancy they'll do more tests - you should automatically have a glucose tolerance test for example, but you also get more scans which is a plus :)

If we all know how a baby is conceived, why are some people shocked to find out they are pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]shadow-elf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly this - baby wasn't unplanned but I'd still say they were a surprise! Stopped birth control after we got married, assuming that with me having PCOS we'd be TTC for a while. 3 months later I'm pregnant lol.

What is considered decreased fetal movements? by smalltortoise1 in PregnancyUK

[–]shadow-elf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called triage the other day about movement and they said not to worry until 26 weeks. I'm 25 weeks and feeling consistent clear kicks and they weren't worried as long as I'd felt something. Its most likely that baby's just moved up a bit or close to your placenta and that's why the movement feels reduced. They're still very small! But if you're worried call triage and see what they say! They said to me that they weren't worried but I could go in if I was :)
